The volume isn't working for me on this video. I really enjoyed the first 1/2 so I would like to see this. Is it just my computer or are other people having the same issue?
We all have families, We have all been married for years .... never divorced... we all have kids.....we are all happy. We all had a great experience that couldn't be duplicated... THANK GOD we didn't have a hit song that we'd still be playing in front of 100s at county fairs each summer while STILL explaining the format of the show...( I played Marty)( Cmon you guys!! Play 'I'm A Believer")
@popegeorgeringo What do you mean you 'played Marty'? You were Marty in the show? I'm sorry but I never followed the New Monkees. I think it was hampered by the name. Producers should have given the group an entirely new identity - to include a different name. Davy, Micky, Peter, and Mike will always be The Monkees. Nothing personal - just the truth.
Well, Gerald .... The New Star Trek movie kind of proves that you can entertain people with 'the past'. Plus, I don't think William Shatner could have physically done it! :)
@klwewf Except for the name (which I agree should have been something else!), the New Monkees television show was completely different concept from the Monkees television show. Unlike similar show from the 80's (e.g. New Munsters, New Gidget, New Leave It To Beaver, etc.)
were the new monkees suppose to potray each individual original monkees? Or basically they just havetheir own personalities not based off of the original?
Back in the 80's they use to show NM at 10:00 AM on Sunday mornings on this local UHF channel. Even though I was like 16 or 17 at the time and use to stay up late on Saturday nights, I still use to set my alarm clock for early Sunday so I could wake up and watch The New Monkees. The NM album I thought was great! The show was very funny, random, trippy and very Mtv-type pop 80's.
I think many pop stuff now is wierd. It all seems to be marketed and contrived. Many singers with very little talent have pop songs on the top 40. Many singers do not perform live. They lip sync to remixs of their songs and what the attendants of thsir shows see is theater act. Back in the 80s live shows were just that, LIVE SHOWS. No lip syncing. When you saw your favorite artist or group it was live.
I remember the "New Monkees" slightly. I have the tape that they did...The music was good and Larry was Hot! But, then again, I was like 16 or 17. However, I never understood the show at all. I'll stick with Davy, Mickey, Peter, and Michael. Thank you!
oh boy...that was slightly embarrassing. this was what, ten years after the REAL monkees broke up? i think i'll stick with my two seasons and a few albums of the originals thankyou very much!
This is the first time I saw any of the "New Monkees" anything. I am with ardalsgirl. "We don't want NEW Monkees." We are quite satisfied with the old ones. Ya can't replace 'em, sorry. It was a nice try though... I think.
seriously, holy shit, this could *not* be more dated. It's somewhat enjoyable, enough so that I most likely would've been all over it way back when. But it's freaking me out that that one guy looks like Peter Tork, vaguely.
Decay. I love the monkees as well. I am forever grateful to you for posting these videos on youtube. If I was not on this site bored out of my mind a month ago, I would not have put the groups name in, find the videos, talked to you and joined theyahoo group
I love The Monkees (and it's the source of my user name). But to see a clip of them on this monstrocity is wrong. This is the worst thing committed to film EVER.
I love the Monkees as well, BUT to claim that this was "the worst thing committed to film EVER" only leads me to believe that you haven't seen that much shot on film. Now that's only a guess seeing that you are most likely from the MTV generation and are used to seeing things shot on video :)
You're absolutely right. I've spent my entire 27 years living in a cave, only coming out to occasionally wave my club in fear at the shiny ball in the sky. Give me a break. I don't feel the need to list my wide range of cinematic/television interests, but I continue to stand by my statement that this is the worst thing committed to film EVER...save, of course, for the short-lived series "What a Dummy!"
Holly crap. I stood in that line and auditioned back then. If I knew it was going to be this lame I would've driven home. Jeez. I think the guys they picked would've done alright if they hadn't made it so blatantly packaged, fake and sanitized. It's like they never got to perform any dialogue, just say your line and cut to the next guy.
Wow, These clips are great! I was going into high school when these guys came out. The one episode that I strongly remember is Dino's kitchen where he made spaghetti with his feet. If you every find that one, let us know.
Boy. Back in '89 I hated the New Monkees so much I walked around with a protest sticker, sent to me through the mail from another (Real) Monkees fan, on the back of my coat. When anyone asked about it, I said it was "my politics". Maybe one day I'll also get over my school (Wells College) going coed against everyone's wishes...comes a point it don't matter anymore. In any case, I still like the Monkees.
please fix the sound,Dino..please?????:)

Very, very bad idea! Why would you need NEW Monkees? You can't bring back the past...leave well enough alone already!

@decay1966 The point is, it's been done. Try some total originality, as opposed to recycling or copying.

The producers were trying to create a new show for the young people of the 80's with a whole new cast of characters.

I just noticed this...I'm glad they added the 5th New Monkee. Marty doesn't look too happy playing the keyboards. Turn that frown upside down, Marty!

WE DON'T WANT NEW MONKEES!!! Ugh, what were they thinking when they did this. It almost makes me want to cry. :(

I think what they were thinking was to create a new show so that young girls didn't swoon over 50 year old men! :)

Oh, and allow me SOME poetic license in using the term "film." Nit-picking one's semantics is the sign of an already weak argument.

This video demonstrates the talents of these guys. Really. What a shame that the show didn't last long enough for the guys to showcase their talents.
If you see this, Marty, Dino, Larry, Jared, stand in front of a camara and do a youtube reunion. Never know what might happen.
