When I was a kid, sometimes I just take the long route from Yuen Long to Kowloon and back just to listen to that engine sound. As with most people which likes to sit upstairs, I like to be at the back of the lower level just to listen to that engine. No other KMB buses at that time has this unique sound, not even with today's buses. Miss that very much.

Very unique engine and transmission sound. They were the king of Tuen Mun Road bus route #68 in the 80's. When I was a kid sitting in a Victory 2 route # 59m at Tuen Mun Road, These 0305 passes us all the time. I will never forget the cream color livery from far distances behind us, few minutes later the 0305 was already at the middle lane passing our Victory 2. They were 屯門公路車皇.

Most likely a Mercedes gearbox. Mercedes manufactured their own gearboxes until about 1990 or so. Since then Voith and ZF are used.

It's however controlled via a generic ZF pushbutton console on the dashboard. The HP-0 series could be a possible replacement transmission for this model.

i get this bus daily for many years when I was a child for school from yuen long to kowloon, love this bus...i have 68x, 68m experience. especially in tuen num highway.. They have one bus with gear box modified, much more powerful.. I am in Sydney now, this bus is single decker here, engine sound the same.. it is still the main bus route. but unfortunately, I canmnot experience full throttle of this bus here
