I take care of my car by doing the nessesarry maintenance because it's painful if I don't. Likewise, if people arent responsible for their own health we are doomed to repeat our problems...
The good doctor is missing a key comment and that is: We as a nation we need to incentivise Doctors and Patients to think about how much they spend on health...When I go get my car fixed I choose what I want fixed and who fixes it. Dealer, independent, self etc. If doctors don't care about the cost of treatment and Patients don't as well ,then we will always have run away costs. The liberal Government run healthcare is not the answer...
Run away system? It's because big government of Medicare and medicaid. If free markets could compete then healthcare cost would go down. Instead we have doctors and Patients who don't care what the costs are and that's because the government dictates reimbursement, not the free market. Go try and get high tech health care in socialist canada or Europe...you'll get someone else deciding what's best for you,...with allocated restricted healthcare

We already had a "health care" system that didn't care about enormous costs (doctors, hospitals, drug companies)
AND didn't care about people's health (insurance companies) (also all too often doctors,nurses,drug companies).
It was already a run away system .They run away w/your $ AND they run away from taking genuine responsibility for peoples health care.
No system of health care based on profiting off of people's illness is ever going to have the incentive to help people get & stay well
