We have seperate taps in our very old house in Canada and, I'm ashamed to say, it takes people a try or two to figure the concept out.

I leave a small plastic dish bin in the sink as a visual aid, but it isn't much help.

@barringtonbank yeah thats right, just leave half an hour for that, first clean the sink, fill water, apply soap and wash your face, then empty the soapy water fill the sink again and wash your face, repeat if needed and then empty the sink, and if you want to then clean the sink again for your mate.
