IN both cases i have seen him do it there isn't that much juice inside the container, it would be interesting and amazing if he can learn recognise when the cup is becoming full and stop pouring the drink before it spills. Asimo isn't that impressive in my opinion. The mechanics of the device are amazing but I heard that they have to program it for almost every task it does. That's not really a robot in my opinion. Just a very fancy remote control gadget.

@Flyberius thats actually what a robot is. you have to program it to do specific task.......if you didn't program it it wouldn't be a robot, the robots in the movies are programed to do FAR greater things then this real life one. the robots in the movies are programed to do every & anything effortlessly. thats why this one seems like a toy compared to the ones in the movies......

It is true that ASIMO emphasizes the physical, human integration aspect of robotics. Others concentrate mostly on the intelligence, self-reliance side. Once they come together, mass production and competition should ensure a steady stream of ever refined and cheaper models. The 30 sec, the looks, even interacting with random objects are nothing compared to the immense challenge of creating self-awareness and it will take time. But then who was talking about 3D only just 2 years ago? What's next?

Sure, the 1883 Dion-Bouton steam car was much slower than a horse and puffing steam, water, oil and what not from its many orifices. @twistedkeys1 Pushing yourself creatively in one area can help you excel in other areas. In this case, it's design and engineering. And often a creative innovation in one field can end up having unseen benefits/uses in other fields. No such thing as waste when you see it this way. :)

However, this is one case where slow may be smooth, but smooth sure isn't fast.. LOL

Agreed. Asimo gets in the news every so often, but each new 'advance' seems to be just a more complex pre-programmed set of moves. And the thing still 'runs' the same way as it did years ago: like an old man with arthritis. It can't even WALK without those weird bent knees. I would have thought that would be the easiest of its problems to fix; who cares about jumping on one foot?

They never invited someone to put random objects on the floor. I'll look for another video for that.
