Long ago and far away I put my two year old daughter in the stool, pulled it up to the kitchen counter and put this song on. "This is James Taylor," I told her, "He's one of Daddy's favorites." As the song played her eyes brimmed with tears which soon overflowed. That touched my heart. She is grown now, She doesn't cry much anymore... but now I do. Crazy life.
I've already posted here previously but I felt I must repost. James is a gifted artist and, agree with his life choices or not, he has a very basic, emotional and sincere message that any and all of us should be able to identify with at one time or another. Here's hoping you have an opportunity to truly enjoy James before you no longer have the opportunity to.
I just love his early voice tonal quality. I have been a fan since his first album and when I hear him sing these songs so early in his career, I am just amazed at his talent so early in his life. I'm happy he was willing to share it with us all.
Wow! It's been sooooo long since I heard this--maybe 38 years; seem like I remember a woman background vocal echoing. ("where did the rainbows end")His voice is still golden!
@purlofgreatprice1 . In the original studio recordingThe 'woman' in the background singing "where did the rainbows end".....is no other than Joni Mitchell and the very distinctive piano style was of Carole King's. I believe there is a third woman on background vocals who could be either Linda Ronstadt or Emmy Lou Harris. This combination of so many talents in one relatively short song makes this one of his finest...IMHO.
Remarkable.....and though you dont always get what you want you make the best with what you have and theres always your dreams....James you are the legend who has proven that.
Thank-you so much for posting this. We are so used to seeing such polished performances from JT these days its great to see again the shy young man we remember from the beginning. Having recently seen Ben Taylor, I now know why he reminded me of his Dad so much.
aserp2006, you're a classic tune hero for posting this. thanks. What a great chance to see this song at it's very beginning. I wonder if this was in Chapel Hill, NC? He played there a great deal when my brother went to school at UNC in the mid to late 60's.
this song is amazing of course but if you ever get a chance listen to Earl Klugh's guitar jazz version it comes in a close 2nd to JT, but JT's the man
Wow you are the 1st person to post JT singing my favorite song he has done. A good friend even recorded it and posted it for me-and did an amazing job-Thanks-i don't know where you found it but thank-you so much!!!!
if a am the first one to enjoy this posting, i would first like to thank you aserp2006 for this gem. as a young teen me and my friends who are now all over the world, would listen to reel to reel tapes of JT. thank you..... this song just stood out of memory from my teenage days pre-martial law in the beautiful islands of Luzon in the Philippines. with that please allow me to enjoy it again and again ;-).... i would like to share this song to all the members of FHAVERN ltd. from pimpangueno

Every time I want see you
I know I have to dream
Because the absolution
makes me cold
And I want to punch you
In the mouth
And make you bleed
