yep many of times it depends on the outside temperature the colder it is the bigger your firestarter piece can be cause the cold air cools the bag, on a not so cold day you need to go with a smaller piece but it still needs to be big enough to get it up and flying it takes a bit of trial and error and after a few bags you get better at judging the size of the firestarter good luck!!!!

i have said it so many times already dont do it in the middle of summer wait till fall when it rains or do it in the winter when it snows and even so try and light one trow it in the air and before it hits the ground the fire is gone

I usually let them go after a rainfall...you can fly them in the summer if it just rained, but they fly best in colder weather because of the air temp difference. Also I don't usually let them go in the neighborhood - I almost always take them out to a field. So far I've had a few melt or burn up in midair, and one dropped flaming pieces into a tree but that was during the winter and it was wet out.
