  • The first actually worth-making video of raping a monotribe.

  • wow i ll gift myself imedietly

  • なにこれ面白そう。

  • New genre: monotribefuckaround.

  • Sounds like farts :D

  • LOL MUST HAVE IMMEDIATELY

  • wicked! big up to that great performance!

  • they are going to sell a ton of these...

  • Sweet. I jsut got one of these bad boys.

  • awesome

  • By the way I think this video really should be called Fooling around on the Monotribe

  • I want an MFB but in a case like this. DAMN Korg build the real thing WELL ALL BUY IT!!!

  • now that is elektro !

  • <3

  • la re detonás

  • It's not called 'polytribe' for a reason. Get off the no midi hate train and just treat this as a solo, versatile instrument.

  • 打ち込み音楽は20世紀で終わりました。

    楽器を演奏しましょう。

programming was dead in 20th century.

  • Im gonna post a stupid question...but are the beats comming from the monotribe too?

  • Cool! ;)

  • Fire everyone in R&D!!! It's 2011 and you guys really dropped the ball by not adding midi!!!! So it's just another toy, a good toy but a toy none the less, leave this rubbish for the circuit bent crowd to make, but a company like Korg acting this way?? I hold your earlier instruments dear to my heart and own so many of them this could have been proudly working with my Poly Six or Juno 60. I would even pay more if it only could sync with cv or midi. Why why why????!

  • @distanceresearch You're really deeming this a toy because of no MIDI? Really? You're really saying that? How about you get more creative and try something that doesn't involve lifeless sequencing all the time. You PLAY this thing, not turn it on.

  • @Jezro You know, I get where your coming from. I have been making electronic music for 15 years, started as an experimental musician. I played devices like this forever. Now I need interesting machines like this that can do what they do already but do very rudimentary syncing. Maybe I just want to use it for a serious bass sound?? I can't pair this to another drum machine or to a arpeggiator. I am not a sequencing fanatic I just want the rhythm in time!!! Everything else is Midi why not??

  • @distanceresearch

It can receive audio pulsation for sync .

  • Oh man, this thing takes 6 AA batteries, so yeah, absolutely for working out ideas with headphones on the bus/train. SOLD!

  • Awesome! Nice Jammin' :)

  • thumbs up if you got yours today.....they are freakin awesome..ive just had a mind blowing 10minutes of hardcore filter madness..its mental..im away to RTFM!

  • @bigbigsound also my Roland SH-101 syncs perfectly...BONUS!

  • sounds pretty dull..

  • Grease juicy at the fattest !!! "ANALOG POWER in such a small box" !!!

let me bay this darn good synth sequencer.

    Best regards from Germany

    FETT FETTER am FETTESTEN

  • Looks fun... Too many of these commenters sound like snobs

  • what about a RD3 Groovebox for Android (4 $) and wait another year till Korg releases a real analog synthesizer? I really wanted to buy this little gear but I haven't got enough money, I'll wait something that deserves my attention

  • Im sure with a bit of tweaking, all these sounds could be reproduced using my korg emx plus it is a sequencer like the mono and has added benefit of midi. So my question is "whats the point of the monotribe?"

  • @chrisgoodman1

You seriously haven't ever heard the true beef of analogue sound.

  • @chrisgoodman1

an emx cost more than twice as much

  • This rocks. It makes a great noise so I'm not bothered about the lack of MIDI. When I get mine I'll bang the sounds straight into Ableton Live as audio - no faffing about editing and tweaking. The same approach as I'd use with a guitar. Get a good source sound and MIDI is irrelevant with today's software. Good job Korg !!!

  • how do you get 16th Hi-Hat Notes with an 8 step drum computer?

  • NO MIDI? REALY KORG??? WHY???

  • i need is now plz!!!!!!!! nowwwow wownwow !!!!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no no no no....metal rulez!!!! \m/

  • @ermusica83 metal inside circuits like these from korg, oh yeah :D

  • ahhhhh gack! awesome!

  • When is the US release date for this thing???

  • oh god so excited, imagine the mods people!! the mods!! :o;o;o. and that bass drum sounds fucking sick, I'm thinking Late era Radiohead stuff man. This is a must buy for me.

  • WHEN THE FECK IS IT GETTING SHIPPED...THIS WAS TEASERED AGES AGO..IM GETTING SO BORED WAITING ON IT I MAY GO AND GET MY PRE-PAID MONEY BACK.

  • @bigbigsound

    waaaaait.

these japanese people released starfox64 as lylat wars in europe, may as well ship in july.

  • Guys, what gear would you recommend similar to this monotribe? Even not a korg gear!

  • @yesusgearfly I would suggest looking at MFB -gear (i assume you want analogue). They make loads of different real analogue gear at a real bargain. It comes with MIDI so it's useful in a real setup (unlike the above populist-crap - and no built-in speakers LOL!). There's plenty of different units for different tastes (synths, drummachines and sequencers - all analogue), both selfcontained and nice semi-modular devices. MUCH better than this toy! Check it out!

  • @yesusgearfly

    a 303! haha :D

also, look up the xox-kit, where you can biuld your own this kinda thingy. :D

  • so you can't plug this in to control ableton live?

  • @UltimateVenom

    WHAT THE FUCK

well... ableton live is a daw hosting its own (vst) instruments, right?

if you want to access these, you're looking for a "usb midi controller/keyboard"

this up there is a synthesizer (instrument) on its own.

imagine you're ableton and this thingy is the vst.

that sums it up i guess. (:

  • @KalleBlomquist93

thanks for your help, please don't say 'what the fuck' though, i'm only a beginner. i thought this was a controller not a synth.

  • @UltimateVenom

this just doesn't sound like ableton live :D

  • minimum maximum_

  • @shdwcst Beats, per minute.

  • can you make a song outta this like the eletribes by stringing pieces together?

  • Nice but kinda expensive at nearly € 200 though. I got me a brand new Roland SH-201 for € 399 recently.....good price i reckon

  • Anyone know when this thing comes out?

  • My main stumbling point on this one is the lack of MIDI sync. Can anyone speak to how you would use the audio pulse sync in a DAW like Sonar? I haven't had the pleasure of working with an old drum machine that predates MIDI, so I know nothing about the pulse sync thing.

  • @MegaCrasher3000 uhm... maybe, not sure about it, you could use an audio output from your DAW, just to direct the click/metronome sound into your monotribe. Click has a tempo, so should sync the synth, or so I read in many blogs!

  • @yesusgearfly

    That makes sense. Thank you!

  • THUMBS UP if you think it should have a MIDI IF!

  • @yesusgearfly

    MIDI? Waaay to new-school!

  • @yesusgearfly a possible solution ? /watch?v=vhlE_gcvof8

  • Would it be possible to run other instruments through this? A Microkorg par example?

  • @johnnythewonderfly It has an audio input option - so you could run any audio source ( synthesizers, Samples whatever) through it's analogue filter.

  • yeah!

    that sounds good!

    i have to save

  • I really hope this kind of gear (Monotron/Monotribe) will be popular: it deserves it plus it's quite innovative compared to what other manufacturers do.

In hope it teaches Roland a great lesson: listen to your customers. Improve your products. Don't fucking sell a GAIA.

  • How about putting 2 of these oscillators / filters into an electribe with a proper electribe sequencer / effects and call it a Polytribe? I'd pay $500 for that.

    Still a great product this

  • Nice toy, rubbish demo video

  • Monotron - Monotribe - Monosynt-20 (MS-20 analog clone) next year? The way is not too far :-)

  • Korg is fast becoming the king of the cheap but fun and reasonably musical toys.

  • Street price about $270

  • If nothing else, this will be fun to jam with on the train to work in the morning.

  • which simpleton disliked this..? tut tut..

  • @EmsySuffs some monger with a copy of ableton and a set of 909 samples..or some rock cock with a les paul..

  • It seems like korg keep promoting these little jewels(monotron, kaossilator etc.) but I'd honestly prefer to spend 100$ more and have a complete and useful gear.I've bought my monotron and it was good but the lack of precise pitch kind of annoyed me really soon. Then I've bought a kaossilator and I thought I'd never needed to use a computer again, but the low precision and the limits of 8 beats/impossibility to save made me come back to pc. So I'd spend 300$ even for a tiny but powerful synth!

  • @yesusgearfly your answer: kaossilator pro + midi if you dont want to give up a computer

  • Only 8 steps for the sequencer!? That's lame. Korg, if you copied the 303's sequencer, 16 steps, accents, slides and a similar note timing system then this would be an absolute winner.

  • This looks so sick! Reading up on the specs, you'll be able to set the ribbon controller to a chromatic mode so you can actually play melody lines. Provided this is under $200, I'll be snagging one ASAP.

  • lol

  • nice! thanks for this upload

  • which should i get? this or kaossilator?

  • I will do such synth in a week from spare part in my garage. IT NOT WORTH THAT MONEY!

  • Well this is a pretty exciting demo. If it's $150 I'll buy it.

  • I LOVE it when demos save me money. I was all set to buy one of these until I heard this monotonous rubbish.

  • did You realized that the hi-hats are being "rolled" on the last steps. How?

  • Cool video! It reminds me of Jexus!

  • STOP RIPPING OFF JEXUS VIDEOS, KORG!!!

  • IDM in a box.

  • @brennuvargr

IDM... Also Industrial, Noise and probably (mild) power electronics..

  • Why is there no MIDI??!?!?!?!?!?!

  • @gustavoturm First, its going to be about £170 in the UK, so I'm guessing about $200. Secondly, yeah, Korg are playing on the analogue thing a lot, and yes for the same money you could get a much more powerful softsynth. But personally that doesn't matter - I'm still preordering, because hardware synths are inherently fun and this little beast is no exception :) I suppose it's not for everyone, but I got a Monotron and love it, so that's just my opinion.

  • @deathaura40s Well, u live in the UK, than it's still a little better. In Brazil, this would cost a lot more because of taxes and sellers profits.

I'm PC + Midi controller based.

  • Have to say this little thing does look like a lot of fun.

Couple of Questions though. Firstly without midi how can I sync this thing with my NI Maschine?

Also can you edit the drum voice sounds? Is this possible or are you stuck with the default drum sounds?

  • @aikighost

I believe the drum sounds are fixed. But remember, they're not samples - at least it's true analog drum synthesis. Should have a pretty nice, fat sound. In fact, it sounds kind of like a TR 808 or 606, at least in this demo. There are analog sync ports on the unit, but no MIDI. I guess that's how it was done before MIDI was the standard? Donno...

  • @MegaCrasher3000 Well since it odesnt actuallly have drums worth worrying about, I think that for most people the Dark Energy synth is a much better option.

  • @aikighost dark energy is like "fat" sounding but not with feeling, the monotribe looks more like it's made to enjoy analog sounds and have fun with it and mess around while you're elsewhere, in the office or something having a break, i'll be glad to take this analog power with a rest of "feeling" instead of "on-off" sounds like a doepfer does.

i'ts really nice to remind a good sound does not come from best technical standard, a bit lag of quality has to be ;)

  • wow its not even 2093 and industry finally listened to what customers want.

  • Why no midi?

  • @macofarland Why sould there be MIDI that thing heakens back to the day of the old mini pops and in the seventies people actually played sequenced electronic music without the aid of MIDI. Don't get me wrong: I think MIDI implementation makes things a lot easier, but limited instruments can be fun too.Besides I don't think we'll have to wait long for the first MIDI mods to come up. Its probably designed to be modified, just like the monotron.

  • sweet video filters

some guy at korg was havin a lot of fun with windows movie maker

  • Needs more knobs.

  • is that Denkitribe?

  • It's like the Roland 303 and 606 had a fat baby!

  • +plus there will be mods popping up left & right for this thing, probably before it even actually hits the streets ;)

  • I should add that I don't think the lack of any of that takes anything away from it for me. I expect this thing to cost in the realm of the Kaossilator in the states.. probably around $250. If it's any more than that I'll wait for the price to come down or get one used. Still really looking forward to it!

  • well there's no buttons for pattern memory, and no knobs or switches for drum sound editing. But given that it's analog, I don't see why we can't hack some extra potentiometers in there

  • @OnionRingOfDoom For all we know, some buttons may have double functions that aren't labeled on the Monotribe itself, e.g. what's stopping the drums from being editable with the synth controls once you activate any of the drum parts? I admit though, I'm not holding my breath for editable drum parts. I guess, it would be asking too much of Korg :-) I'm buying one anyway.

  • SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

  • @soupforare Cheap at twice the price I reckon. I sold all my gear (Xbase, MFB Synth II, various electribes) over 5 years ago and am starting to really miss them now. I was contemplating buying a EMX1 but now I have seen these I am going to buy one. Or maybe 2. GIVE US IT

  • Can you answer some questions for us? E.g. does the Monotribe have any memory for patterns, or is it only possible to play it live with only 8 steps available? The other question - are the drum sounds editable in any ways? TIA.

  • @shortsleevesmsc no, yes, no

  • @mutepg58 no -> re: pattern memory; yes -> re: playing live with 8 steps as all sequencing available; no -> re: drum sound editable. do i understand correctly? and the most important question - how do you know? :-)

  • @shortsleevesmsc Yeah, that's right. I know because the information is all over the internet already ;) look up the musikmesse videos. The one from Sonic State is the best quality.

  • @mutepg58 OK, then. Still, all I saw was a few "interview" with the same guy from Korg Germany, who didn't appear to know everything about the product, and was asked only questions a quick look on the spec sheet could answer. Haven't watched the SOnic State video though, thanks!

  • Roland Jupiter 80 < Korg Monotribe

  • how much is it?

  • Amazing

  • yeah my futur "toy" :D

  • Just the toy i'm missing! Thanks Korg!!!! :)
