I agree with what your saying about how people view the confederate flag, but most people dont even realize that the Civil War wasnt even fought over slavery. It was fought for States Rights, slavery was just an issue within States Rights and the flag symbolized the Souths secession, and I'm from the Appalachia part of PA and I can assure you that the Rebel flag flies high around these parts on this side of the Mason Dixon.

The truth of this matter is that racism is tied to both the Union and Confederate flags. The CSA, because they wished to continue slavery, which is obvious. But they were only slaves under that flag for 4 years, and 250 under the antebellum Union. But the Union freed them and gave them the vote. The south continued harassing blacks and then other groups under the stars and bars. It's a permanent stain.

The Confederate "Battle" Flag was the symbol of the Confederate Army, not the CSA. During the Civil War, the Battle Flag represented the sacrifice and struggle of Confederate soldiers for each other and in defense of their home land. It was then desecrated BY SOUTHERNERS in the 50's and 60's as a symbol of white supremacy. The Battle Flag should fly where it BELONGS, over the graves of the men who fought with it. In the memory of my Great Grandfather who fought for the Tenn. 3rd. The only unit who carried the Stars & Bars Confederate battle flag into combat. He surrendered with the rest of his unit at Vicksburg...I still have his homemade Confederate battle flag he mad while in prison in Illinois...Yes History is the clue my man...

They never tell you that in the same debate, Lincoln also said "I agree with Judge Douglas he [the negro] is not my equal in many respects—certainly not in color, perhaps not in moral or intellectual endowment. That puts it back into proper context.

I'm from Arkansas but I live in Michigan and we have Confederate Flags all over the house and I have a small one in my locker at school and I was accused of being a racist pig, but my 9th grade History teacher let me get up in front of the class when we were learning about the Civil War and explain exactly what the History books don't tell us.

The war began in order to restore the unity of one country, but soon became to be about more: abolishing slavery. The confederacy is not something to be proud of, their goal was to preserve and expand their way of life: slavery. The confederacy is not a symbol of states standing up for their rights as some like to believe. They tried to use federal law to their advantage as well.
Ur facts are right on man. I'm a huge history freak on the civil war and slavery really only had to parts in the war #1 abe lincoln signed off the emancipation proclamation to abolish slavery in the north and south. The south mainly survived on ag thru slavery but the reason we had a civil war is because the south seperated and formed their own country and #2 slavery was a part of the war in that plantation owners sent forth slaves to fight in place of their own life.

What's really funny is the fact that the flag people think represents the confederacy is really their 2nd Navy Jack. The square version is a battle flag, with the square stars and bars on a white background in the upper left corner is the national flag for a short period of time. The flag he is showing was actually adopted by Town Line, New York as their flag. I just find it funny they don't know history. And yes, I had descendants in the confederacy, so you can't knock me on that.
Thank you for posting. My 4'th great-grandfather served in the confederate army. (6'th KY Cavalry) He was held in the worst confederate POW camp (Point lookout) After the war was over they held him even though they were ordered released...he was killed AFTER the war...Lincoln had a lot of say in the way that camp was run too. About time someone understands the real history behind the flag instead of having it sugar coated in school.

I agree with what your saying about how people view the confederate flag, but most people dont even realize that the Civil War wasnt even fought over slavery. It was fought for States Rights, slavery was just an issue within States Rights and the flag symbolized the Souths secession, and I'm from the Appalachia part of PA and I can assure you that the Rebel flag flies high around these parts on this side of the Mason Dixon.

only 13% of the confederacy owned slaves bc down here in the south it was a very poor community. the civil war was actually fought over states rights. the north wanted a federal government as opposed to the south wanted state government. thats why they fought bc the union actually had or even more slaves than the south bc of the industries. the union just disagreed with the south's views on government. the union just used slavery as a scapegoat.

The truth of this matter is that racism is tied to both the Union and Confederate flags. The CSA, because they wished to continue slavery, which is obvious. But they were only slaves under that flag for 4 years, and 250 under the antebellum Union. But the Union freed them and gave them the vote. The south continued harassing blacks and then other groups under the stars and bars. It's a permanent stain.

The Confederate "Battle" Flag was the symbol of the Confederate Army, not the CSA. During the Civil War, the Battle Flag represented the sacrifice and struggle of Confederate soldiers for each other and in defense of their home land. It was then desecrated BY SOUTHERNERS in the 50's and 60's as a symbol of white supremacy. The Battle Flag should fly where it BELONGS, over the graves of the men who fought with it. They never tell you that in the same debate, Lincoln also said "I agree with Judge Douglas he [the negro] is not my equal in many respects—certainly not in color, perhaps not in moral or intellectual endowment. But in the right to eat the bread, without the leave of anybody else, which his own hand earns, he is my equal and the equal of Judge Douglas, and the equal of every living man". That puts it back into proper context.

The confederate flag is a symbol of slavery because that was the reason the south attempted to form their own nation. The war began in order to restore the unity of one country, but soon became to be about more: abolishing slavery. The confederacy is not something to be proud of, their goal was to preserve and expand their way of life: slavery. The confederacy is not a symbol of states standing up for their rights as some like to believe. They tried to use federal law to their advantage as well.

I'm a huge history freak on the civil war and slavery really only had to parts in the war #1 abe lincoln signed off the emancipation proclamation to abolish slavery in the north and south. The south mainly survived on ag thru slavery but the reason we had a civil war is because the south seperated and formed their own country and #2 slavery was a part of the war in that plantation owners sent forth slaves to fight in place of their own life.

What's really funny is the fact that the flag people think represents the confederacy is really their 2nd Navy Jack. The square version is a battle flag, with the square stars and bars on a white background in the upper left corner is the national flag for a short period of time. The flag he is showing was actually adopted by Town Line, New York as their flag. I just find it funny they don't know history. And yes, I had descendants in the confederacy, so you can't knock me on that.

Thank you for posting. My 4'th great-grandfather served in the confederate army. (6'th KY Cavalry) He was held in the worst confederate POW camp (Point lookout) After the war was over they held him even though they were ordered released...he was killed AFTER the war...Lincoln had a lot of say in the way that camp was run too. About time someone understands the real history behind the flag instead of having it sugar coated in school.
