What is often overlooked is the fact that Tolhurst, though technically lacking, is really a very tight drummer! His unique style really fit the early sound of the band.
JUST ADDING ONE MORE THANG DID NOT REALIZE MR. SMITH CAN PLAY THAT GUITAR. AND YES THE BASS PLAYER IS PRETTY DAMM GOOD HE IS ON THE ONE. SONG REMINDS ME OF ALL THOSE FINE ASS MOTHER FUCKING BETTY'S FROM THE OC SOUTHERN CAL IS IN THE HOUSE.
DAMM GOOD NUMBER ROBERT SMITH WAS A BAD MOFO HE TORE IT UP, IF ANYBODY WANTS TO KNOW WHO WAS BEST BASS PLAYER EVER WAS HIS NAME IS LARRY GRAHAM THE FUNK MASTER FROM SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE WITHOUT QUESTION THANK YOU FOR POST.
@NLSpecialist88 As a bassist myself, I really admire him and his consistently excellent playing. He along with Mick Karn, some of the best bassists of new wave.
Might be that his hair is longer but he didnt use lipstick back then, I wonder when he started using it.
Anyways, The Cure are so incredible creative, I love the time from 1980-1982 the most and many songs from the time from 1979 such as Grinding Halt, Jumping Someone Else's Train, Boys Don't Cry.
I would love to hear a crisper audio track, but either way, this is a fantastic find.. and a great performance of a song from one of my all time favorite albums. I'm not really a Cure fan, but BDC is one of the best albums that anyone has ever made.
Anoher classic from "Three Imaginary boys." Why is Robert wearing that absurd headband thing? Is he preparing for kamikaze? It looks pretty ridiculous..even for him.
That's not true. I saw The Cure for the first time last year in Royal Albert Hall and they played 'Fire in Cairo' during one of the three encores. I remember singing 'F-I-R-E-I-N-C-A-I-R-O' along with Robert!

This song has some of the most sexually-explicit lyrics of any Cure song. It's fantastic.

Simon Gallup is the best bassist ever
NLSpecialist88 2 years ago 24
He definitely is a phenomenal bassist. Doesn't get nearly as much credit as he deserves. That might be what makes him so great, though.

Totally agree.

i agree, he is one of my fav bass players, he never gets enough credit for being a big part of the groove that the band has.

You are so ignorant! his make up and his air isn't gay... and if he is gay, what's the problem? his music is great!
Carlitaj83 3 years ago 2
It's cool seeing Robert Smith without his gay hair and makeup. Early Cure is awesome.
RansomII 3 years ago
his normal hair isn't gay on his head, and he has mascara on his eyes...
