Song is by 60's star Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon who had a top 5 Billboard hit in 1962 called "Palisades Park." Cannon changed the lyrics in the mid-80's for Kennywood and re-recorded the hit. Sounds very similar to the orginal (except for Kennywood of course.)
I remember that commercial, too. I don't know why, but I keep thinking it aired in the late 70's, not the late 80's. Maybe it's the lack of Pittsburgh "big hair" of the late 80's on the actors! LOL!!!
A very memorable moment of my life was when I rode the Racer with my little granddaughter in the same front seat I rode with my little girlfriend when I was about 13 yo.
The Kennywood version of the song is available on ebay now! It was a promotional giveaway record from KDKA back in the late 80's, you need a record player to listen to it though. :-(
I was just at Kennywood last night. It's still the best!

Is it odd that when the guys says "fall in love" she is hugging the kangaroo?
Not to mention that the kangaroo is mostly always a college co-ed. So she's hugging a kangaroo or a co-ed in a kangaroo costume.
That's freaky...a little too freaky!

Raging Rapids wasn't built until 1985 so this commercial is definitely from the 80s.

1988, I went to Kennywood the day after prom like many did. I wonder if kids still do that. Day after prom was like Kennywood Day.
soulfulpisces 3 years ago
Oh yeah, people still go to Kennywood the day after prom. My high school's been doing it for years.

Great to hear :D! It's a wonderful tradition.

They should do a revival of this song, it would be much better than those dumb commercials they play now.

So that knob went to an amusement park by himself? That's pretty lame.
