  • sorry no squire!. what you hear in the result of the audio spikes from the trigger being converted in my pc to midi signals by protrig and then into drum sounds by AD drums... the difference between this method and most is that a 'drum brain' is an external box that works well with specific triggers and has set sounds ( with midi out) - protrig and addrums act as the drumbrain in this case but in software on your computer. you can look up protrig and ad drums to get a better idea of the basics.

  • Msxlive, can you confirm to me (and I think others) whether your piezo pick-up is acting as a TRGGER for a drum 'brain'? Or is the piezo pick-up being fed directly into an audio amp? (I suspect the former...)

    Thanks.

  • @Pityssakes - hi - no sir the trigger goes into the audio interface - no drum brain. then signal may get a tweak with eq, then through the protrig software, then into ad-drums.

you need as many audio inputs as you want triggers. benefit of these smaller preformed piezos is you are less likely to clip on audio input, so you don't necessarily requre an input with gain adjustment, as the signal is a bit weaker. currently i use a 2nd Digi 001 i got for £40 as the input interface into Reaper daw

  • hey man i am drummer and have roland td6 and pearl elx set but can you send me some photos about this minimal set how you mount the mesh head thanks a lot

  • @emrahcebeci

hey it is pretty minimal - the mesh head's from a practice kit (dragon - cheap thing) the pickup is as in my other comment (do read) a guitar tuner pickup - the clippy bit removed so just the little piezo in the black housing - glued some foam onto one side and in this vid its one of those squishy ear plugs you can get glued to other side, then mounted in the dead centre of the head press against. i find its not as critical as other pickups since protrig does good. not advertising!

  • So is it a pickup just under the drum head, no digital module involved right? If so I would like to know what type of pickup that is?

  • hey - yes its under the middle of the head, touching. i now use those little guitar tuner pickup things that are piezos in a plastic mould so are more robust than a piezo on its own, they tend to break (contacts come off) . that in a little foam sandwhich. yes so no module just going in as audio. the trigger software plugin does a good job so the actual trigger doesn't have to be as good. some filtering eq etc of the signal is normal before it gets to the trigger plugin to get best response

  • I just really like the sound, and think it sounds more like a real snare, whereas as sampled sounds in a module can sound good, but so ultra clean and non organic.

  • wicked my son! such a minimal design!

  • That response is just unreal... Holy cow!
