  • Unforgetable game

  • I cant help but think of being peacefully underwater, with slanting beams of light cutting down through the surface

  • best game of that gen

  • It's thanks to games like this that Metroid will never die.

  • It sounds so sad.

Like memories of an old school you went to when it closed in your third grade year, and you're inside it.

Or the ruins of a relationship that has been strained because the girl you loved so much had to move.

Or watching an old movie you had loved for many years, but never got the chance to watch years after you first saw it.

That pretty much suits my childhood in a nutshell. So many things came and went, and one is revisiting those lost memories in the endless annals of time...

  • @IvoryGecko1993 lol annnals

  • @IvoryGecko1993 so true, i remember playing this game with my family, then i have to move, and now my life is a crap :/

  • @zadixmadololombax Bummer.

  • @IvoryGecko1993 Woaaaaahhhh.... Deep shit brah...

  • @IvoryGecko1993 i know

its like a future but then u never saw it again

or like a nice house but it was nocked down but u where inside it

or like a nice cat & puppy but they both left 2 gether but in your dream u really saw them again

thats all the stuff its so sad

  • These designers were way ahead of their time.

  • I disliked playing this area just cause you didn't have the Gravity Suit :) But later on when you got it, it's a wonderful place to visit :)

  • @Nurvez07 You're suppose to get the Gravity Suit first. That is the whole point of even getting it.

  • @huuballawick From what I recall you visit this place twice, once with the suit, and once without.. But I may be wrong, and that means that it was too long since I played it last time :)

  • @Nurvez07 Nope. You get the Gravity Suit and go straight there. It is optional to travel back and forth through there, but there is elevators to take you from place to place so there is really no need for backtracking at that time.

  • @huuballawick Ah okay! Cheers for clearing that up :)

  • Metroid is the best game series ever made. Period.

  • navigating through the large room in the middle (especially without the gravity suit) sucks hard

  • @ryanaprice1 tell me about it....

  • @bluekentuckyboy Almost to the top, almost out of here...

    *falls back to the bottom*

    FUUUUUUUUUU-

  • anyone else remember seeing those tentacles and thinking, "Oh shit it's Morpheel!"

  • BAD MEMORIES OF GOING IN HERE WITHOUT THE GRAVITY SUIT *shutters*

  • i luv this game it was my favorite

  • Damn those who disliked this >:(

  • I swear this is the best game ever created...

  • ......................

    im not crying i swear

  • if ruins sites had music playing inside them, this music would be in the Titanic ruins at the bottom of the Atlantic

  • one of the best games of all time

  • I love this song, but thus soundtrack isn't on itunes, so I can't download it...

  • @ButlerCommaSeth search youtube to mp3 that will fix you up

  • the first four beats of the tune sound like a silent hill game

  • If this song played while a UFO flew overhead, I don't know what I'd do.

  • That nice sound effect / synth thingy you hear at 0:09 is also used in the beginning Dr Dre's "lay low". Search for it right now if you don't believe me.

  • Meditation in music form...

    So peaceful...

    So zen...

  • I CAN HEAR FOREVER.

  • best chill out ever

  • While this song is playing:

    1.Open a new tab.

2.Type in "Youtube.com" in Address bar.

    3.Search "Meditation from Underwater".

4.Click on the first video pops up.

    5.?????

    6.Profit. ;)

  • I remember the actually fun game... not like

that shitty halo or call of duty bullcrap .

  • @INMATE2468 First Halo's pretty good. It didn't try too much. It just did what it did, and it succeeded. Regrettably that's when the series took a down fall for me. However, I have yet to of seen a bad Metroid game in the Metroid play style. I absolutely dislike Pinball for some reason.

  • @Dorda098 Other M?

  • this place for some reason made me feel sad in the game

  • Notes to the song posted as a video response!

  • the fucking memories of my first gamecube game :(.

  • @gamezonic !!! im assuming u got the platinum gamecube? that came in the special metroid prime box? I remember getting a great report card so I could get it taking it home. putting this game in (only game i had) and thinking to myself... woa. then my lil sis got mad cuz I didnt have any 2player games lol

  • @numba1netsfan haha yeah i did get the platinum gamecube

  • @gamezonic both halo and metroid = HALOID first xbox game = HALO First gamecube game = METROID XD XD XD

  • fucking conduit puzzle

  • I'm submerged in water, moving aimlessly in the soothing waves of time.

  • @SurestPlayer Perfectly describes the feeling. :D

  • @SurestPlayer LOL i think your just hight ;)

  • @gab1423 Nostalgia high from playing this game haha

  • @SurestPlayer

Why is this comment liked? He's talking about how he went into the frigate orpheon without the gravity suit. It fucking sucks trying to get back up.

Great game, just stay the hell away from here until you get the gravity suit.

  • @Faybro I'm actually describing how I felt floating in the water with or without my Gravity suit. I thought this was the most peaceful level in the game, so i thought i might put my emotions into words. I can see how you could take it the other way though.

  • @SurestPlayer Wow, one less syllable and you've got yourself a Haiku ::thumbsup::

  • Thank you so much for this... it reminds me so much of my childhood... games were much better back then...

  • @SuperRichi96 Games DID seem a lot more special back in the day, didn't they? I remember when I first got - heck, when I first SAW - Super Mario 64. It and the N64 just seemed like the most amazing things ever. It was so special and cool. Games just don't do that to me anymore... :(

  • I've used this as music to fall asleep to. Not in a 'this is boring' way, but in a 'this is so good, it can relax me at anytime, anywhere' way. What a beautifully written song.

  • OrbitZombieSuaveTitoOrbitZombieSuaveTitoOrbitZombieSuaveTitioOrbitZombieSuaveTitoOrbitZombieSuaveTitio

  • I could bring myself to think halo was better then metriod if they had origanality in anything they made. master cheif (starship troopers costume) the elites (predator yeah that alian from the movies)honor bound they land on planets in pods they even cloak and have the same face. and I can play halo 1 and it is basicly the esact same as halo 3 minus a few new movies scenes. metriod is new every game and mostly different it even started as a side scroller how many halo games are like that

  • Halo isn't shit. MP is just much better.

  • @WumboWarrior yeah, youre totaly right. the music in other m brings a really different atmosphere, and i think the atmosphere of the metroid prime series fits to metroidin the best way

  • just so you know, there is an energy tank in the wrecked elevator. use a missle to get it. this goes out to everyone trying to get 100%

  • Music is what you're left with after the game is over. It's also the soul of the game. With no music, the game is empty and it will likely be forgotten. Going through Metroid Prime for the first time, actually, and I love this piece!

  • The first I played through the game, it took me probably around an hour to get through this part XD But I didn't mind; I had this incredible music to keep me going!

  • Great theme just great. Very nostalgic very pieceful it is sad and happy at the same time. This is what is needed, Music is probably the most important for a good game nowadays its which game looks good, but what is the point if u dont have good themes like this? Music is what sticks.

  • Personally, this song made me feel sad/bad for the space pirates, I feel like we kind of bonded up there in space when we were all duking it out, and then I see what happend to my worthy opponents...I wish they survived to fight another day...with me.

  • I almost feel bad for those little, annoying, pirating, unlawful, revolting, parasitic, stupid fuckers. Almost.

  • @ChrisEchidna

And MP2 became GCN GotY in 2004/2005 (I forget which)

  • I want to make an Aquarium with this music looping, the whole tour.

  • It's peaceful - because everything is (mostly) quiet and calm and serene in the crashed frigate in contrast to the way it used to be before it crashed - it's also beautiful - because you're in this underwater place with fish and nature and all sorts of just cool things - it's also creepy and haunting - dead bodies, what it used to be, whatever is still alive - and it's also sad at the same time - innocent creatures whose lives that were ruined when they were captured and the frigate crashed....

  • Reverberating piano = WIN

  • with this song, although u don't believe it, I conquered my girlfriend

  • why are you even comparing halo to metroid? their both completely different games

  • @chocholatefrenchpudd Thank you! I'm tired of seeing Metroid's video's comment filled with retarded Halo nonsense! :/

  • 9 people went in before grabbing the gravity suit

  • @SpartanMartan973 Haha, we all do that on our first game.

  • @SpartanMartan973 My friend did, he just went on to Metroid Prime 2 before completing the game. >.<

  • @SpartanMartan973 Lol, I liked this vid, and I went in before the gravity suit, my fail.

  • @SpartanMartan973 I LOLD

  • @SpartanMartan973

    ...That was me xD

  • I just had a typical shit game of halo reach, listening to this reminded me of what a good game was, wish i put this on instead of playing that shit.

  • play this song to el shadii because it goes good with it

  • lol MP3 >>>>>>MP2 at al!!!

  • I FUCKIN HATED the friendly A.I. from halo, they would always throw nades right in front of them and just generally not use their weapons

  • I would purposely go into the sunk space shuttle just so I could hear this song, It goes perfect with the little swimming fish and *goes into trance*

  • all i remember was being scared shitless when i was underwater... still am...

  • Music Review:

This piece sounds like some kind of lostin space echo type song. Also, it sounds like an underwater nature theme, like you are lost, by yourself. This really has atmoshere to it, this is truley remarkible.

    9/10

  • Very few of my friends understand why some of my favorite pieces of music are from video games. This is a perfect example why

  • @VINDICATOR456 Example of what? Of why some of your favorite pieces of music are from video games, or why most of your friends don't understand why some of your favorite pieces of music are from VGs?

Kidding, I know which one you meant.......

  • @VINDICATOR456 I know right. One of my friends calls this gay. In my mind I'm like "Shut up, hoe."

  • @VINDICATOR456 My friends are big into video game music; it's my jazz-nazi dad that doesn't get it. I played the soundtrack from Monster Hunter 3 and he says "This sounds like actual orchestra". *facepalm* but yes, Nintendo is always pumping out great music and this is one of my personal favorites from Prime.

  • @SuaveTito

You should tell your father that it IS an actual orchestra...

The critically acclaimed "FILMharmonic Orchestra Prague" of the Czech Republic.

Video games have had play/movie level soundtracks made by professional musicians for the past decade...

  • @OrbitZombie That's exactly what I told him, especially about the part where games have had professional musicians for the past decade. I was showing him Jhen Mohran's theme (a tune in 5/4 signature, where an odd meter is about as musically cool as something can get). He still didn't get it X(

People like him only hear blips and synthesizers. It pisses me off a lot.

  • @SuaveTito

Yeah some jazz-folk can be elitist dicks.

There's a reason why the Gaming Industry has surpassed the Film Industry in sales and a reason why some video-games are just as [if not more] popular than films like Star Wars and James Bond.

Hollywood has seemingly ran out of ideas.

While the gaming industry continues to be creative and innovative.

With games like BRAID & Shadow of the Colossus sparking the controversial debate of whether video-games can be considered an art-form or not.

  • @OrbitZombie Funny you should mention some jazz-folk being elitist dicks. I am a jazz person, admittedly, a piano player. I don't like mainstream pop or rap or anything like that, but I do like anything tasteful. Game music is no exception. I've made plenty of lead sheets of game songs, and even composed a jazzy arrangement of a Pokemon song. Heck I even turned on my more open-minded jazz teacher onto the genre, with Kirby's Epic Yarn.

  • @SuaveTito

I occasionally see elitist Jazz/Metal/Classical fans dissing video-game and electronic music on YouTube.

Often commenting that "It's not music!" or "IT TAKES NO TALENT!" "THIS ISN'T ART!" and that Jazz/Metal/Classical music is "Real" music.

I've always loved a WIDE variety of music video-game/electronic music included and it saddens me that some people are so elitist and closed-minded.

I do however HATE many of the things that MTV has played the past 13 or so years.

  • @OrbitZombie In fact, most of my favorite songs that aren't strictly jazz are jazzy game songs, like Castelia City from PKMN BW, Throwback Galaxy, the theme from New SMB is pretty jazzy. My dad is in his fifties. He's at the age where he just doesn't get it. A lot of friends either play or appreciate jazz, but also this kind of stuff.

I'd agree the film industry is losing momentum while games take over in terms of creativity.

Also June 27th 2011, US Supreme Court rules, games are art! :D

  • @SuaveTito

Yeah games like the Fallout series have actually exposed a lot of young people to Jazz music.

So whats with all the hub-bub?

I didn't know that the Supreme Court ruled games as art!

    I bet Roger Ebert's furious. :D

  • @OrbitZombie Yep, it was against the state of CA selling violent games. There's a good article about it on CNN, just search "games are art" and it should be the second result under Ebert's misguided insight. Granted the case was more about whether or not games should be granted the same First Amendment protection as other artforms, but the real victory is for us who have accepted games as an artform, as they are now.

  • @OrbitZombie And I think in that regard my dad is a lot like Ebert. At their age, they just don't get it. I do think there's a lot to be said about game music. The sheer amount of emotion that pours through it. It fits with a scene, whether happy, epic, victorious, depressing, nostalgic. I could go on and on, especially about the last one, but I'd rather just show off my quasi-nostalgic arrangement of Pewter City from Pokemon! ;)

  • @SuaveTito

Yeah. I've considered video-games as an art-form for years.

Starting from playing games on the Sega Genesis my brother & I owned when we were younger to playing on my fathers old Atari 2600.

I was actually quite surprised when I learned about how much controversy surrounded the notion of video-games as art.

  • @OrbitZombie Same here, albeit my first console was an N64. My perception of games as an artform emerged upon seeing games like Super Mario Sunshine and Kirby Air Ride, both are extremely beautiful games. Now we have games like Shadow and Monster Hunter, that show true creativity. Then there are games depicting a certain artstyle like Okami, MadWorld, Limbo. Most people who think games aren't art just say that you can "win" at a game. I think they're completely missing the point.

  • @OrbitZombie My real problem with them is that they say if you take away the objectives, it's not a game; it's an experience. My question is, who says that game and experience are mutually exclusive? And on that note, in what way is a game not an experience anyway? I think that's where games like Monster Hunter and Shadow of the Colossus come in especially.

  • @VINDICATOR456 your not alone... :D

  • @VINDICATOR456 Very very agreed man

  • Of the games I've played, here's what I'd rank:

    1. Super Metroid (10/10)

    2. MP1 (9.8/10)

    3. Zero Mission (9/10)

    4. MP3 (8.5/10)

    5. Fusion (8/10)

    6. Other M (6/10)

But Prime 1 is #1 when it comes to music!

  • @GregzillaGT I didn't like mp3 that much, the controls kinda turned me off and i didn't like being forced to use phazon constantly.

  • MP1 is just an awesome game that I would prefer over Halo. That doesen't mean that I don't like Halo, though. Halo had its own good points, but it had a lot of bad points that just made me prefer Metroid Prime over it.

  • This music makes me think that nature is starting to take control of the ship's ruins. Well, that plus the fact that by the time you get there, animals are starting to move in.

  • this song gives me total peace when life is hard

  • Which game is better? Metroid Prime? Or The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess? Or is it pointless to argue about it in the first place, since they're both great games?

  • @MetroidMasher17 Both are great.

  • 9 people suck at games that actually provide somewhat of a challenge.

  • @Drazhar753 so true

  • this music still fits in real life since the oceans are still alien to us..

  • aerotroopers can be under water? O its an aqua pirate

  • great game, the storyline and the music ...

  • @matitkataha yep. this game is a personal favourite

  • This music made the this game's "water level" bearable.

  • This music is perfect for those documentaries on Ocean Life.

  • There are a LOT of great video game songs that evoke a saddening feeling.

    3: Midna's Lament (Twilight Princess)

    2: Geothermal (Cave Story)

    1: Crashed Frigate (Metroid Prime)

  • @Thunderchin Don't forget the 8 melodies of Earthbound...(crys)

  • @Thunderchin I wouldn't say this is saddening,rather:very atmospheric and nature feel.

It evokes this feeling of awe like you are in a huge frigate full of amazing life forms you have never seen before.

  • @piromaniac9999 I find it nostalgic. You remember of the beggining of the game, when you beat the first boss...

  • @Mario7746 I remember the music of the intro,it feels like its breathing life.

You know those videos of wild life next to a waterfall you sometimes see in movies? you know a world full of life? thats what this feels like.

Its like its describing a natural beauty underwater with algae fish and all sorts of natural stuff, same as the music you get at the first screen.

  • @Thunderchin Really? Interesting, never heard anyone who found this sad.

  • @Thunderchin You got a saddening vibe from this? Huh...i always got a calming feeling.

  • @Thunderchin Forgot about Song of Healing (Majora's Mask). Very sad song also..

  • @Thunderchin Sad Feeling? I think of this as more of a peaceful song, not sad.

  • @Thunderchin There's hundreds more. N's Farewell (Pokemon Black and White), Father and Son (Metal Gear Solid 4), Final Hours (Majora's Mask), Demise of the Ritual (Shadow of the Colossus)...

GOD, I love video game music.

  • What a beautiful song...

  • For an unnecessary and totally skippable area (23% run), it is my 2nd favorite area :)

  • 8 People got raped by tentacles

  • 8 people didn't get the Wave Beam

  • Metroid Prime, the best Metroid game ever made. epic gameplay, music, and graphics. all just plain AWESOME <3

  • They could give Hitler a funeral attended only by Jews and they would all cry if this music were played.

  • This music is good.

Hunting for those damn power node thingers was not.

  • I find this to be kindof depressing, it leaves me feeling empty inside. Like it's a testament to how alive things used to be and how dead it all is now.

  • dislikers must DIE!

  • this song is butiful even when its in such a bleak atmesphere. this game is amazing

  • @MetroidFreak123

i'm guessing english is not your first language, huh? (no offense)

  • @tearitup100 thats okay. i dont mind.

  • Aqua Pirate - Using modified thruster-packs and Gravity Suit technology, the Space Pirates have armorsuits for use in liquid environments. Thermal tracking is still very useful against these units, as the Pirate engineers have yet to eliminate the thruster-pack's high heat signature.

8 were lost in underwater and slow without the Gravity Suit

  • Eight people lacked the Gravity Suit.

  • @Bunomous

Then what are you waiting for? It's a GameCube classic, and it's pretty cheap. Or better yet, track down the Trilogy.

  • The trilogy is easily the most worth I've gotten out of money I've spent on games before. I already had Prime for the GameCube which I think is the best of the 3 and I still believe this.

  • Yeah this is like techno ambience at its finest. This is shit that makes you want to play the game just to listen to this. Meanwhile FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUU tentacles get offfffff me I'm listening to the music ah shit missed the jump.

  • I effin love this song, I just love to lie in the back yard at night listening to it. Wish I could go fight space pirates in space T_T.

  • Every Metroid Prime Song makes me want to cry... untill I play it again.... If I ever do.

  • Why is this song so underrated? I think it's beautifull.

  • @BrainDS i think its underrated because everyone HATED the space pirate frigate.i know i did.

  • the first of maybe 3 times i have ever stopped playing a game just to listen to the music; and i was maybe 10 years old.

  • Thanks Retro Studios. One of the best games ever conceived. Artistically incredible. And Kenji Yamamoto made one of the best soundtrack for a game ever.

  • Bless you for making this!!!!!!!!

    Amazing music!!

  • chuck norris plays metroid......IF U DISLIKE IT U WILL WISH U DIDNT DISLIKE THIS GAME!!

  • @dredahalomaster1 Round-house kick em in the head he will. Those dislikers..

  • 1:52 is a great moment in video games

  • Comment removed

  • wow imagine going scuba diving and being able to listen to this.

It would feel like heaven =)

  • although when i was a younger kid i was freaked out by the frigate when it was in space and wen its crashed its like "huh maybe this place wont be bad at all. and even though thre frigate in the beggining still scares me a little this crashed is quite relaxing. but tht parasite queen corpse in the biohzard contaiment still scares me but over such a relaxing song

  • If you love this track s much as I do and like ambient dubstep, check out my remix of it in the video responses. Tried to keep it the same vibe.

  • I was about PIVOTLEGO's age when I was here, as well. I was quite proud of myself when I got here. When you're a little kid, people don't expect you to get very far in a game like this. I kept on going until I got to the Omega Pirate, who was sadly too difficult. I was planning to get the Phazon suit on the game as well, not knowing that I got it from the Omega Pirate. I lost inspiration. I am now 13, and I have lost my Metroid Prime disc. But I shall soon get Trilogy and attempt again...

  • Those FREAKING three finned fish were waiting for me- [:o Need to fix sentence Those three finned fish.

  • Oh, the memories. Just yesterday I got into Orpheon right after getting Ice Beam, then I got inside and heard this wonderful music. I was thinking "Oh, it can't be SOOOO bad hear!" So I jumped to the bottom? Those three finned fish. To make a long story short- I died. Rather hard.

  • love this song but it always makes me feel depressed....

  • Comment removed

  • Even though I love this song, for some reason I would always avoid going through the frigate to through to both sides of the Overworld. I think I'm scared of water, lol.

  • I have to say, I liked Orpheon in orbit around Tallon IV better. Also, it makes me wonder what the entire area from the Landing Site to the Great Tree Hall would look like if Orpheon didn't crash there.

  • Does anyone have the music for the Frigate in the opening scene? Like, BEFORE you crash and burn and suck and almost die?
