@forevernorthstars - Maybe they got rid of it in 85/86. The one I played there was not in the best of shape, and I know I put lots of wear on it, lol! :)
i also agree. it was the best machine around. well done on buying it. and you play a good game too. the best way for really high scoring is to rack up lots of extra balls
i loved this game in the 80's. i played 4 hours per day. my best score was just over 10 million on a machine with a more sensitive tilt than this one. it was twice as high as the next best score. i have often wondered what other high scores were. thanks for posting this. it brings back great memories
I Have '78 Bally "Playboy".....that was a great ball you played.....people have to learn to control the ball as you did....catch it and put it where it needs to be.......great action
@dstaff8321 i had a pink & black one in 99 paid 500$ for it, played the sh out of it sold it for 600. But 8DLX is my all-time favorite machine...too bad its also everybody else's & hard to buy cheap.
i once saw one locally for sale for 700$ with green-blue digital scores thinking it was all made up of parts of other machines...a year later i looked on Internet Pinball Machine Database & realized i was looking at a 8BalDX Prototype....oh well, i'll keep looking for a good one. This game to me is a 10x better machine than the overrated kiss.
The great thing about this game is that the sounds were all distinct and the instructions meant something, so you could actually "play" the game and take shots, keep track of extra balls and specials - I would play this for hours in college until beer or the GF won. Man I gotta get one of these - working on repairing Nitro Groundshaker for a buddy!
@Playittiltheybleed 8BalDx encourages back flipper action. Hold the ball in the left flipper, tap it back slightly & when it rolls onto half the flipper...flick the flipper &the ball should roll up either the outside left bank of less intense go into the multiplyer lane. Same with the right flipper same manuver & flick it straight into the 8 ball lane. The trick with the left flipper is you have to flick it fast enought that the upper side flipper doesnt catch the ball rolling up. Give it a try!
@Hot80s I totally agree, I never shoot for the multiplyer using my right flipper, because there is a great change it will drain between the flippers...
kinda funny only goes to 9million 99

played it in 84-85. cant believe what condition you got it in!!!! Looks new and sounds great.
btw how sensitive did you have the tilt set to?
1pake 2 years ago
Tilt is set to what I figure is moderately sensitive. I like to be able to put a bit of english into it, but not be able to shift the machine.

If I could buy a machine, This is the only one I'd consider. I spent much of the early 80's looking at one of these. Great video, thanks for posting.
