  • I read in an article that no health system is perfect and can never be due to a little thing called reality. I would certainly support the United States shift towards a system similar to Canada more so than I would recommend to a Canadian that their system should more resemble ours. Good video! you are a good man.

  • Mr. Bates you have lived in Canada for longer than I have been Alive! You Sir, as far as I am concerned, are now a Canadian Living in Canada.

  • watch the burzinski movie, cancer is serious business, don't let the western qwack medical KILL YOU;

  • Very nice video, you are doing your part to educate the mass's and thats all you can do . Corporations in America have their multimillion dollar advertising budgets, but we have Bill Bates. Thank you for setting the record straght. Canada's healthcare is not perfect but lets all work to make it better. For me having universal healthcare gives me a sense of security when it comes to my pocketbook. Keep up the good work Bill.

  • @hardcorefrom94 You're from Arizona. I despise liars.

  • @hardcorefrom94 Funny; your page says you're from the United States. You lied, and you only feel the way you do because of what your ring-wing family brainwashed you with.

  • No myth exists, just cold hard reality. Waiting lists of death.

  • excellent video i wish more people see this video because it dispels a lot of and i only wish more Americans see this and hope that they get myths are only myths and fight for this in their state anyways wonderful video.

  • delays and waiting for diagnose and treatment; 3 year wait for 1st MRI; another 18 months for the 2nd MRI; 5 yr wait for 3rd MRI; In 2006 I told many physicians exactly what I thought was wrong, it was never investigated and 4 years later I was diagnosed with exactly what I stated I thought was wrong, I have not received any treatment and was just denied a specialists appointment in Calgary; UNIVERSAL HEALTH care is a big LIE; This is government RATIONED healthcare with long delays;

  • Good video thanks :)

  • Thank you Marine for your video. Unfortunately, it takes an American to show some Canadians how good they have it here. God bless.

  • @hardcorefrom94 Too bad 85% of your countrymen diagree with you.

  • @MadHabber93 his profile says american! ha!

  • @gordonloveslatinas Oh well.

  • Comment removed

  • thank you for making this video it really helps, I am currently a US resident and would like to go to medical school to become a dermatologist in either canada or australia, the healthcare here has gotten so desolate ...its great to here how it really is from a true canadian.

  • @freshblooms Hi, Thanks for the comment. It does appear that there is a shortage of Dermatologist, at least in Ottawa, where I live, so Ontario might be a good choice

  • No country's healthcare system is perfect but Canada is damn sure close.

    OOH RAH Marine! OOH RAH!

  • well... I guess we've heard it straight from the horses mouth.

people need to stop ripping on canada and start looking at our own system.

  • well now days it really is more like "if it's not american it's un-american thus bad"

    there is no serious discussion...

  • as a canadian, welcome, glad your here,i never had to wait when i had serious injuries either.got top care and never have gotten a bill.yes we pay more taxes but we also have less to worry about and a solid infrastucture.good video.

  • are you a big hockey fan now I love the our health care system here in canada it would take me years to save up with 97 000

  • The reason why single payer health care is not on the table in America is not the fact that people do not want it, or that its a horrible system. A lot of Americans would actually go for single payer. It's the giant health industry lobbies that are sleeping with our lawmakers (mostly republicans) and fighting against anything that would change their status quo. A single payer system would be a nightmare for the America's private health insurance industry.

  • Thank you, sir. You confirm most of what my Canadian friends have told me about the Canadian system. Thank you for serving our country and thank you for supporting health care reform.

  • I live in Australia where we have medicare we also have private funds for those who can afford it which takes the load off the public system and gives you more choice however I have found that on public or private you get the same Doctors. I have only heard good things about the Canadian Medical system. There will always be people who are not cared for properly in any system. People also die in private hospitals. It is sad that you can get quicker care if you pay this has happened here too

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! There needs to be more videos from other countries about there heath care. I am getting sick and tired of the lies and stupidity, America needs a universal health care system.

  • It should be pointed out that Shona Holme's case is a fraud -- she had neither cancer nor a tumour but rather a benign cyst. it is not life threatening nor a medical emergency. She panicked, was bilked for $97k, and took her frustration out on the Canadian system. Research online.

  • every western country in the world has nationalized health care except the united states which spends trillions of dollars on health care which is funneled by the insurance companies who charge high premiums and deductables for individuals and families with no guarantee that everything will be covered. even though i am not american i think the american people should support mr president obamas health care plan because he is trying really hard to help the american people.

  • @doctorw2

"he is trying really hard to help the american people"

    Haha, what a joke.

  • no its no joke, i dont know why you would say so. american people need to stop being so scepticle and narrow minded and support your president its not his fault that he has been bogged down with bushs' blunders.

  • Oh please. He's a wall street whore leading US towards fascism. His policies undermine US's ability to have a sustainable recovery - spending will not get US out of this mess. Not to mention how many of his pre-election promises have been broken.

  • listen the life blood of your entire economy is spending consummerism is the very heart of your entire economic base i hope realize that. you fail to see what he is trying to do becuase maybe his race plays a major factor bush got elected illegally twice and bailed out the financial institutions at the expense of the american people and no one said a word.

  • Bush is as much evil as most of the presidents of late. They are just puppets. People want to have "hope" and make a "change", that's not enough. Complaining about previous executives is not an excuse for his atrocious policies.

  • i just had my left acl done had a knee scope mri and physio all in a short period of time and it was all FREE and and won of the surgeons in the world top that

  • You're one of the luck one who got surgical attention quick. I dare to say most people who got really really sick in Canada are not that lucky. There are 2.1 doctors per 1000 people in Canada. If the wait time is not that long, in theory, private clinic shouldn't even exist in Canada. However that's not the case. Wait time much much longer for alot of people. You jusy have to meet them on a Sunday health bus here in Toronto.

  • flynn2008: you "dare to say"? Pretty brave.

Why not tell us what you actually know? What do you know about wait times and private clinics? What is this "Sunday health bus"?? Is it like the shuttle bus my mum and sister were provided with to take them to and from the big Toronto cancer care hospital every day from their small community outside Toronto, to get their timely radiation therapy, to go with their timely diagnostic procedures and timely chemo and surgery?

    So many questions.

  • dont like move to the usa go canada

  • great job bill...im from manitoba and my family wouldve been bankrupt many times over in the usa system....i would rather pay higher taxes to take care of the masses.heatlh=life

  • i completely agree with you.. the canadian health care system is being misled to the american people as a political tool so that those who greatly benefit from health care profiteering can still profit from people's loss.

this video needs to be seen by every american.

at age 14, i shattered my ankle and the growth plate in my foot. i was rushed into emergency surgery and my foot and ankle quickly and completely recovered to 100%.

canada does NOT have subpar healthcare.

  • Great video.

  • Thanks for posting this Bill! I wish more Americans understood the Canadian health care system.

  • Bill, your such a nice man. Your video was respectful of Shona Holmes - not like the many commentators on most of the videos featuring her - many containing such vile comments I fear for her safety. Any one with the name of Holmes in the city she lived is getting harassed with phone calls. I do disagree with you on a number of points though. Not all health care is delivered equally in Ontario and that's because of the LIHNs & the boards of them having conflicts of interest with government

  • I don't have a family doctor. Clinics do not provide proper health care. I was denied referral to a rheumatologist by 2 doctors at the Mountain Medical Clinic in Hamilton for a formal fibromyalgia diagnosis despite the constant pain. I fall out of the 'catchment' for my rheumatologist in London and denied access. I can't get a family physician until the Ontario Government 'deregisters' me from the previous physician who was shut down by the CPSO. What was to take 2 weeks - is now 2 mos

  • I contacted the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) who is legislated to protect the public interest regarding the refusal to refer by these clinic doctors and they said they can do that. The CPSO is also allowing doctors to discriminate against patients who have "too many medical problems" thus creating more barriers to access. I spoke to a CPSO investigator about such discrimination. She says they have "no proof" w/o inquiry! This is inconsistent with case law.

  • @Mute699 think of it this way if shona holmes gets stabbed or shot and gets rushed to the hospital and lives she won't get a bill.

  • Hey Marine,

Why are you in Canada to begin with?

  • Because he didn't want to live in a fucking sewer like Bush's America. That's why.

  • I removed your other comment, Threats of that sort are discraceful and have no place here or anywhere.

  • Hi Kddevildog, Because my business is here and I'm married to a Canadaian. Ottawa is the nicest city I've ever lived in. On top of that I do not have to sweat health care. This is a great country to live in. And for Blame Republicans - I voted for Bush and can live with that. - I am a fiscal conservativem but believe strongly that health care is a right that all shoud have access to.

  • I'm a fiscal conservative / social liberal. I have been a health care provider in the US for over 27 years of my life. I have toured clinics in Canada and Sweden and they are EVERY BIT as good as those in the US. It is a shame the corporate lobbyists and pharmaceutical companies spend millions in lobby money to mislead US citizens. Thank you for speaking the truth!

  • Good one comokate. As a european living in america I love many things about this nation but healthcare system isn't one of those things. A gounded rational debate is the last thing the insurance industry wants because it 's a fight they cannot win. Death camps, rationed healthcare, at this point peddling fear is the only thing they have

  • @billbates6 i live in ottawa too and i hate summer times including now. i am extra sensitive to heat. but on the other hand i love winters, since i am not sensitive to cold weather.

  • Great video Bill

As a Canadian myself I can only say thanks to Tommy Douglas the father of universal health care thank you sir These ads have really ticked me off. I'm not sure who I get more upset with.....the sleezeballs who put the ads out there or the blind followers that believe the ads

Here in Canada you don't have to sell or mortgage your home to get

that operation to save your life. Here in Canada ALL people can get

the necessary medical help if needed.

  • Thanks for the great comment. People tend to belive what the big networks show. So we need to put them on the list of the bad guys.

  • Just to add: I have family who do have cancer. My mum and kid sis have both just completed a year of cancer treatment in Ontario - diagnostic procedures, chemo, radiation; surgery, for one. All at zero cost, with no delays and no co-pays, deductibles, maximums or exclusions, and complete choice of providers.

My sis had genetic screening done (free), and had there been a genetic link, none of us would have lost our insurance coverage.

Life without OHIP ... doesn't bear thinking about.

  • Hi Bill! Happy to rate your video tops and share the link.

Don't forget the big lie: Shona Holmes never had cancer. She had a, er, "tumour" - a Rathke's cleft cyst, stemming from a condition she was born with. Mortality rate is 0%. Her vision would have been restored following surgery. She was under the care of a neurosurgeon, who had sought a consult from a neurologist less than a month later. You can hear all about it here: /watch?v=FH7dzSM1SR8

Dispelling those lies -- keep it up!
