MacOS has been based on BSD Unix since what, 2000? This isn't news. OS X is nice because you have a real Unix base, tons of open source software, but you also have a nicely integrated UI and real commercial applications (Word, Excel, Photoshop, TurboTax, etc.) To many, it's the best of both worlds. But no, OS X won't run on your Palm Pilot or your electric razor like Linux will. ;-)

I don't agree about the pricing.
Like I said earlier, Macs are designed for media. 3TB is perfect for professional video editing.
You also don't have to upgrade the Mac Pro or even the iMac by apple. In fact, I upgraded my own iMac.
I believe you are referring to self-built computers, and in that case, winux is the answer if you like PCs.
