The G2 Obligatory was written to flow rather than follow a beat or pulse. The version on the CD is a bit longer as it has one more verse, but this is a decent live rendition. The idea was to create a mesmeric flow, distinctly different from all of the other tracks on the record that have drums, bass, keyboards vocals and additional instumentation.
Better than I could do, surely, but there's no contrapuntal or polyphonic work going on here, which is too bad, in my opinion. If this is supposed to be an example of "Stanley Jordan style," which, given that it was offered to me as a response to my Stanley Jordan/Stairway video, I imagine it is, it doesn't work, I don't think.
I met Stanley Jordan in London around '72 or '73 and had never seen anyone play two handed before. I offered my post as a "video response" because I use a similar double guitar setup. The "G2 Obligatory" is an original piece, performed as an Instrumental solo, and is in a middle eastern mode, and Stanley is performing a cover of Stairway in a jazz mode. I'm still quite new to youtube but I felt that my video was close enough to the theme of your video to motivate me to connect them in this way.
There are two guitars but the song starts out on just one. The second guitar comes in after a couple of verses and has a different tone. The recording on the CD had to be done live too because I couldn't work out how to play the parts separately.
