  • Thank you for posting this. It is the intersection of great artistry and a great artiste. May Beverly Sills be remembered forever - via film, in this case.

  • Beverly Sills was an amazing artist who brightened the world with her presence. Her passing brings us both hope, as her legacy reminds us of the heights of human potential, and a deep sadness for the last act has finally come to close.

  • Brava Sills. Bravo Donizetti. A beautiful and touching moment sung with great feeling. Addio Bubbles.

  • How very, very Blessed we all were can't wait to hear your voice again

  • grande teatro!!! La voce forse non è adattissima al ruolo... Ma come non si fa ad apprezzare l'intenistà dell'accento, la forza del fraseggio, il modellato delle frasi... E poi il legato... Una meraviglia... La recitazione è superba... Ricorda Bette Davis... Un mito!!!

  • Oh my God, I just heard that she passed away. She was a woderfully gifted soprano and a lovely person who overcame many hardhips in her life. I really so so sad ... RIP Bubbles....you made so many people so happy.

  • Bravo, bravo, you will be missed but your voice lingers.

  • To gatsbyfaith--

She and Burnett became best friends after their 1976 concert at the Met.

Saw her in her Met debut 1975.

  • foxyzzz - the Met concert was in 1978

  • Check out beverlysills dot com and premiere opera dot com. It was 11/25/1976. (That's the only way they let you indicate URL's here.) Burnett also appeared in Bev's 1980 farewell concert at the City Opera.

  • It must be a typo, because i'm sure it was in March 1977

  • I remember that in "Bubbles," her autobiography, Beverly Sills said that she would not sing the title role in "Madame Butterly" because that character was so passive. Watching her as the powerful, dynamic Queen Elizabeth I makes perfect sense in this context. I saw her live on stage at a tribue to Carol Burnett at UCLA in 1985, but would have loved to have seen her as the Queen. What a great lady! She brought opera to the masses.

  • sometimes we forget that opera is performance....if you didn't know who sills was(if possible) you would say that it was Queen Elizabeth singing......i just turned the sound down and asked my partner who was on the screen - and he said Bette Davis as Queen Liz -there you go! and now that he's left the room...oh, BEV - my favorite aria...Rest in Peace - I'll always love you!!!!

  • I loved Beverly Sills as both an opera singer and as a wonderful person. I always sat in the same section at the New York City Opera. In later years when she no longer performed, Beverly Sills became a general manger. Her box was close to where I sat. She radiated warm feelings from where she sat. There was always this warm smile on her face.

  • i so totally agree with you about Bubbles being such a wonderful person. This aria is her at her best in her later years. That high D always brings tears to my eyes, and her presence onstage was astounding. She has opened my soul and allowed me to sing opera in a completely different way... for that iam forever grateful. The Heavens are ringing with beautiful song now...

  • Such a GREAT voice and so easy to listen to. Good actress as well. Rest in Peace. We love you Beverly.

  • You opened a part of my soul. Take care of this woman God. Rest in peace.

  • RIP

  • Rest in Peace Ms. Sills you are an American Treasure

  • Ms Sills is a great American talent who will be missed not only for her great voice but also her great kindness

  • For me roles like Elisabetta show clearly why Sills was one of the legendary artists of all times. She was such an intelligent singer, a real master of the ability to join music, virtuosity and drama. She used that basically leggero voice with a braveness and sense of "excitement" that few ever had. She was a thrilling artist indeed! We'll miss her!

  • What a blessing Beverly Sills (Belle Mariam Silverman)was to opera. Her warmth and charm made one of the most misunderstood art forms accessible to millions. Rest in peace.

  • RIP, dear Bubbles. What a gift you shared with us!! Thank you.

  • Rest in Peace, Bubbles. You did more to bring opera to the masses than anyone.

  • REST IN PEASE

    ADIOU,BEVERLY SILLS

  • BRAVA! REST IN PEACE TO A TRUE ARTISTE!

  • So nice and deep. Nothing to do with the more recent "che m'apporti'.

  • ugh that D kills me!
