Jay Bennett was to Wilco as Chris Bell was to Big Star as Gram Parsons was to The Byrds. I imagine each of these guys in the afterlife...maybe wondering about the music...and why it all had to end so soon.
Still my favorite Wilco album, though I know I'm in the minority on that. I just never got the later stuff (after Summerteeth). It just got to far from "rock" for me.
Jedi & Jay, if you're partial to the early stuff you should have liked the last two releases right? Sky Blue Sky and Wilco both got back to a more straight forward sound I thought.
Same here. For me, YHF is to AGIB what Rubber Soul is to Revolver. YHF and Rubber Soul are the albums that find their creators starting to break out of the mold that they'd been in for the beginning of their careers, and AGIB and Revolver were the albums where they were like, "Okay, let's see what happens when we take this a little farther."
Oh, that and both pairs of albums go back and forth as my favourite album from each band.
agree to agree, revolver is my favorite beatles record too.
a ghost is born is really something, i'm not sure why a lot of wilco fans have bashed it? it's a gorgeous and challenging record i can listen to all the way through, ten minutes of white noise included!
has anyone here given wilco (the album) a listen? i listened to the stream, and i'm still not sure what to think of it.
i've lsitened to it morganenosfilms. not too sure what to make of it really, bit more of the same of blue sky blue. think they may have gone maybe a bit too 'soft country rock' ... will have to lisen to it a few more times to get a proper idea though.
Agree 100% on the a ghost is born comment. Why anyone who thinks YHF is so great but doesn't like Ghost just doesn't make sense to me...it's like YHF taken to the next level...
Gotta agree on Jay. Although I love all of their stuff...the earlier albums are looser...and that's why I like them more. Jay is amazing and I wish he were still with the band.
They certainly were not a technically better band in 1999, but the sum sounded tight on stage. A little sloppy, a little ragged. Kinda like the 'mats. I love the side shots when they all step to the mic. Jay was a great foil to Jeff. People age, they get older, priorities change, etc. They're a great band now; Jeff's a much better songwriter; maybe a better studio band than a live one; I understand the evolution, but I think I prefer the 90's version.
I'm watching this over and over to try to find out why Ken keeps switching his lead hand. He's just over complicating a not complicated song. Oh well, still sounds great.
What that little head bob...that was awesome! I love the current line up, just saw them in Missoula for the first time, but I like what Jay did on guitar as well as presence.
I was fortunate to see them on the Fri & Sat shows at the 5 day residency. This ROCKED live on Sat night. Yes, Jeff does look like Michael Bluth (loved that show!) Didn't see them with Bennet, but must say that Nels rocks out and the shows are great! Can't wait for Wed night show!
Jay was/is an amazing ; too bad he had to be acontrolling wise-ass during "YHF". Kotche is one of my favorite drummers (as in, e-v-e-r) but this guy's a wall of sound. Great! Nyah-nyah! I'm seeing them in Chicago on Feb. 19; the next-to-last gig of their 5-night, winter residency in Chicago (@ The Riviera Theater, unfortunately...). . Can someone explain why they DIDN'T win the "Rock Album of the Year" award at last night's Grammys? Well, at least Steve Earle & Levon Helm both deservingly won...
My girl & I saw the 4th night. Holy mother of god. Exhausting. I dunno how they do it. Their latest edition-- that kid with the throwback hairstyle and Townsend-esque antics-- had to home by 11p.m. Otherwise, I'm sure they'd have played a bit longer....
dude - have you seen them live since 1999? They are an unreal live band now. They were great then, but they are in another stratosphere now. Nels, Glen, and Pat are a huge addition to Tweedy and Stirrat. I have never heard a better live band....ever. I have heard them pre and post Jeff and there is no comparison.
There is a radiohead upload for you to watch and comment on. This one is for WILCO. I love Radiohead but this is not Radiohead, it is Wilco. Be well out there.
Well, the whole things about about Wilco, I don't think a little "informative opinion" is hurting them any, so I think I have the right to say what I will.
Plus it was a slight change of subject, slight as in it's still in the music section, but if I were, I don't know, talking about how the balls of chimps get sweatier than humans, then stop me.
Jay tearing it up. Wilco, the best thing in music over the last 15 years.

its amazing how many members wilco has gone through.
