@KikinBcN The bull shark is one of the three most dangerous sharks for humans. Along with white shark and tigershark. This three are responsibility for most attacks on humans.
But that dosn't make it especially danger at all. Attacks are very rare.
Seriously, aren't bull sharks notorious for their random attacks? We swam in Shark Bay on Koh Tao and saw a heap of reef sharks, which despite being only abut 1 metre long, looked more like great whites to me. You're one brave fellow for filming that bull for so long-I think I would have run a mile, metaphorically speaking of course...
i work as an instructor on koh tao, and they are bull sharks...we only say grey reef sharks so the customers don't get scared... can't see them very often now tho! they stay deeper (off barracuda rock 32m +)
i wonder why you dont see them anymore? Because you lot have scared them all the other fish. It used to be great a decade ago, look at it now! one fish over 30kg if your lucky, this is what "recreational scuba diving" does to the ocean. it destroys it, and you instructors know it! If you are one of the typical type you should be ashamed! If you are one of the few trying to make a difference then good on ya and keep up the good work.
you're a bit of a hypocrite.... you say you used to be an instructor and now you start saying how bad it is to go scuba diving cause it destroys the reef.. sorry but thats the same thing as quiting smoking and then start preaching people about how bad it is that they smoke.. hypocrite...
I was a dive master on Koh Tao for 2 years, 2003-05... it's a Gray Reef. We've had this discussion as a community because Bull's are more aggressive than the reef sharks. Whale Sharks migrate past KT approx. March and Sept.
That's Trevor the Titan Trigger fish that attacks you at the dive site "White Rock"
yeah that is definately a bull shark! just freeze it at 2.06 - stocky body and a broad flat snout - classic bull shark. Its a juvenile, which is why some have confused it with a reef shark.
WHy are people saying this is a reef shark, it has neither a black, silver nor white tip. The nose is much to short and angled to be a reefy, only one shark on the planet has a body like this, a bull shark! They have been there for years and years. The dive ops tell you there reefies because they don't want people to be scared of them and loose business. These are bullsharks. Google search Bullshark images then watch it again! I plan to spear one early morning before the scuba police arrive!
Whats cruel is dive ops taking hundreds of people diving on this spot everyday and destroying the reef in the process, all for money, then taking a pop at a spearo for taking a fish or 2 for dinner. Whats cruel is the fact that the same fuckers that take people on open water, advanced, rescue, DM what ever and preach about protecting the reefs are killing the reefs in full knowledge and lining their coffers at the same time. How do I know? I used to be one, I have been living here 10 years!
I was Koh Tao in february (just 1 week: diving was just too crowded to my taste) and according our divemaster there are also lots of (juvenile) bullsharks at Chumpon Pinnacle.
Usually I dive in Caribean and Florida and I must say that this one (1:10 to 1:20) looks EXACTLY similar to bullsharks that one can see in the western Atlantic.
nice vid.. been on koh tao a lot of times now. and its a realy great place.. stongly recomended.. i've seen 4 sharks there so far.. another exiting thing is when u meet a trigger-fish.... nice vid. BTW
can see reef sharks at the bottom of tao.. past chalok ban cow...go to what used to be secret beach.. either early morning they come in or around 5pm.. there is an island called shark island.. doubt you want to swim that far though.. but just off the beach past the coral you can catch a glimpse.. where the sea bed drops away.. your in about 15m
i didnt know you got bull sharks in thailand, thats freaked me out a bit,.....i take it they just hang around the rivermouths......infact, are there any dangerous sharks around koh tao?
Great video! I must have just missed you, I went diving with Simple Life on Koh Tao in August 2006, what an experience! I got my Advanced Open Water and saw several reef sharks, although we didn't get to go as close as you did. Well edited, I only came back with a short 40 second clip myself, nice work!
i was there in may 2005 and saw a whale shark - they said they sometimes had got big schools of grey reef sharks there in the summer months, but that they'd been fished out.
the sharks in the footage are definately bull sharks. they are too big and bulky for reef sharks, especially grey reef sharks, and lack the black stripe on the caudal fin. also the dorsal fin sits quite far along the body and, like the pectoral fins, curves back a lot more than the angular fins on reef sharks and whalers.
that is 100% definately a bull shark in that footage.... broad snout, small black beady eyes, gun metal grey body - was that really taken at chumphon pinnacle? if so how long ago? i was there a couple of years ago and they said the fishermen had taken all the local sharks... awesome footage anyway
there's loads of sharks off Koh Tao, ive swum with them myself. only smallish white tip reef sharks but they're still sharks. Whale sharks also feed of the coast of Tao.
lol. nice clip but i don't think there are shark in thailand am 100%thai and i never heard about ppl in thailand have been bitten by shark and realy i never heard about shark in thailand sence i was small
well, there are a few different kinds of sharks in thailand (grey, black tip, white tip, nurse, leopard, whale sharks etc.) , SHARKS DON'T EAT PEOPLE. The reason you have never heard about sharks in Thailand is because you do not dive! And I envy all these people who live in Thai and dive....

bull sharks have a bad reputation, no doubt...
but perhaps i am not included in their menu!
I am definitely not that brave...i juxt know where to move in nature...
Several years after this film (it was taken in 2006) , i had the opportunity to film some more bull sharks , in belize , this time...
I still have all my legs, and hands (fingers and toes included)
keep on diving mate...keep on learning about nature... :-)

around 2,5 meters, 7 ft...and no I was not scared....humans are not threatened by sharks, sharks are threatened by humans

@geodive Ye thats why they come to shore and attack surfers. Because we are the "threat"

@flirtr
Your ignorance is laughable. We humans are 1000 times more threatening to sharks than sharks are to us.

I had two dives in Kho Tao but didnt see any shark.
Is that place takes an hour from Kho Tao and around 30m deep you can meet sharks?
Because the place where i had my diving i went around 23m depth, visibility was not good and no shark either.
But still nice place.

well the time depends on where on koh tao you stay!
in order to meet pelagic (ie whale sharks) you have to be lucky....
