@AlanDeValle Dear Alan, Thank you so very much for your very kind message! I appreciate it so much. And, of course, I'm glad you enjoyed the song. It's from my last CD and I'll admit I'm pretty proud of it! Your support is very encouraging to me! Thanks again! - Ken
@PatronSaintOfMe Why, thank you so much! What a lovely comment! I really appreciate the time you took to watch my video and to comment! Please subscribe to my channel! Best, Ken
@BocaFriend Terry, thank you so very much! This track has enjoyed good airplay in San Antonio on the few jazz programs here. And it has enjoyed some good online sales, as well. I hope your friend likes it! I'm glad we have connected here on You Tube - thanks to Marc! I love your channel. I think your "Smile" video is fabulous. I'll be watching more of your offerings soon! Sincerely, Ken
@defrancesb Heh, well I do indeed have a lot of nerve, as did Carl Sigman, who wrote the new lyrics "A Day in the Life of a Fool," completely unrelated to the original song by Luis Bonfa.
If we'd *both* left well enough alone, the song would be in Portuguese — of course, some people would rather hear it in Portuguese (and thankfully can), but many would never have heard it at all without those nervy English lyrics. (There's also another set sung by Perry Como.) Glad you like it, though!
I lived in Brazil for 8 years, and heard A LOT of bossa nova with adapted lyrics. Most of them were terrible. This, on the other hand, is pure amazingness in form of song.
Yes, that is the melody. You'll see in my description to the right that my producer wrote brand new lyrics for the song and I am the first to record them. But we also wanted to honor the Brazilian composer of the original song, Luiz Bonfa. The original title of the song is "Mahna de Carnaval" and "A Day in the Life of a Fool" is the English language adaptation. Thank you for listening to this. It brought me a lot of joy to record it - and the whole new CD. Best, Ken
Wow, wouldn't have guessed to find this, what a gem! Thanks so much for posting this up on Youtube, I would most likely have never found out about your stuff otherwise!
And I'd like to say that besides the smooth-as-silk voice, you also get to hear Polly Harrison on that creamy 7-string-guitar solo, and then pianist Morris Nelms: he looks like a 19th-century clergyman but he plays like a devil.
Amen, brother! I was lucky to have top-flight musicians like Polly and Morris on my album and a first-class producer!! I'm very proud of this recording.
Well, everybody is entitled to his opinion! I must admit that I've never been told that I have an "almost karaoke" style voice. Thank you for taking the time to visit my channel.
Great as always Ken..Ilove each one you send and play them all so many times....Please send more Better still come over and let this country see and hear all your lovely tracks sung so beautifully
Hi there! And thank you very much for the kind words. I play mostly in Austin these days, with occasional gigs in San Antonio, where I live. I will give a concert in San Antonio on Friday, October 23, at the Carver Community Cultural Center. I hope you will check out my other videos here on You Tube - and please share with your friends. Thanks again, Ken
Love the video; good stills, always a pleasure....beautiful lyrics for the classic "Black Orpheus"....one of my fav, foreign films.....beautiful arrangement and I can visualize Orpheus singing of his love, you sing so beautifully....5*
Heather: Thanks so much for the beautiful message. I do love this track from the latest CD. I wish it had received more attention in the "biz," but as you know, I went on a nearly year-long hiatus just a few months into the promotion of this album. It's hard enough to properly promote when you are an independent artist - but even harder when you get behind, like I did! Please share this video with your friends! Warmly, Ken
Ken, I put a comment on here yesterday but it seems NOT to have come through.
I too am a crooner, have my own combo, 3 - 8 musicians, and gig around the local Province at Jazz bars and clubs, wineries, at weddings, and Art Deco concerts. I also host a programme of Easy Jazz, on a local radio station on Mondays and Fridays.
Always a treat to hear your voice! So smooth and pitch perfect. The arrangement is very similar to what we did with Johnny Angel on my new album, and I love that Brazilian style!
Thank you, Denise! I can't wait to hear your new CD. "Johnny Angel" is such a great old pop classic and I'm sure it has a whole new life as a bossa nova treatment by you - with your wonderful voice. Congratulations!
Oh, well....that's how it goes. This channel will only be for my own performances from now on!!! I hope all is well with you and I continue to enjoy your postings! Ken
Beautifully sung, as always, and the musicians are most worthy of note too. I just got back from a lunchtime gig and found your email. The song has finished my day perfectly. All Hail Ken Slavin.
How did I miss this one?? It's really wonderful...one of your best Ken. Keep the pipes warm and thanks for sharing your gifts with the world.

Ken this is a sumptuous offering and is pure class
in every way. I love Barry Brake's interpretation
and this has the serene sensuality of an Andy Williams
type of moment. Heady stuff. I've sent it to a friend
who hosts a Bossa radio program in the northeast.
Cheers, ~Terry

This Barry Brake has a lot of nerve re-writing A Day In The Life Of A Fool. Barry should leave well enough alone.
Have Barry write you an original song and leave the classics alone. Your voice is sensitive and smooth.
There is a sound of the lavender set
in your tone, but of that same set, so
as far as I'm concerned you're great.

Nice to know some people are still recording pretty music. The melody sounds like a song that I think is called "A Day in the Life of a Fool".
