I think its rediculous that people are offended by this... Powows are about fun and if they want to have a lil silly dance during a powwow break time then who are you to say that is right or wrong? The announcer thought it was something fun to do just like they did with the mens jingle dress dance and womens grass... If i ever did that in a powwow circle one of the elders would probably yank me by my ear to the nearest bench for doing something so disrespecting and distasteful. As far as the land goes, we should not fight over it. Yes, natives were brutalized, so were innocent white settlers at that time. The concept natives held close was murdered into the ground... the heritage lives on today does it not? So isn't that what is most important instead of material things such as land? You have to take into consideration also, that this was obviously brought forth to their pow wow committee for permission. I think that our aboriginal culture isn't really recognized, and all this group of people did was do something a little different and had a little bit of fun with it with no intent to disgrace their ancestors or elders or heritage. I think it's more insulting to take someone's videos to slander them, than kids trying to have fun while incorporating their culture.

I live next to a reservation were pretty much everything is handed to the natives, and they still piss and moan about how the white people took the land from them, that was how long ago. I believe that all Races should hold on to their culture except where extreme ignorance is spread. HELL at least you can see and learn your culture from elders willing to teach you all. We have to piece our history together from all the puzzle pieces. So many of my people couldn't speak the same languages and were constantly split up, friends, families and so on. You have to take into consideration also, that this was obviously brought forth to their pow wow committee for permission. I think that our aboriginal culture isn't really recognized, and all this group of people did was do something a little different and had a little bit of fun with it with no intent to disgrace their ancestors or elders or heritage. I think it's more insulting to take someone's videos to slander them, than kids trying to have fun while incorporating their culture.

I don't think it's necessarily right to blame the kids doing this, if it upsets all of you that much than why not find out what community and tribal counsel allowed this in their pow wow...but if one is to go that far, you may want to research their specific nation and culture first, just because we're all native doesn't mean we have the same cultural practices and backgrounds.

Men who had a canupa could not be a chief or a decision maker.They were for the people in consultation.
