you know nothing about shotguns. you want capacity don't go for the cheap ass maverick. get anything else. The 500 comes in higher capacity then 7+1. my 590 is 8+1. My saga takes a 20 round drum. your an idiot :-)

Love the Mossberg Maverick 88, great field and bluerock gun

I think there are some Mossberg M500 special purpose with extended magazines other than the 595.

I prefer the Mossbergs, even if they don't have the extended magazines, mainly for the easy to access safety.

BTW I also think the Mavericks are Mossberg's economy shotgun line.

slugs for home defense....no......unless you want to kill the burglar and your neighbors...the slugs travel at 1600fps or so and will go through house walls and possibly into your kids room or whatever.......winchester 00 buck is a good idea but make sure if your to shoot your ready to kill whoever it is. and be mindfull of innocent people in the area.

still a great shotgun now all you have to do is figure out what type of selfdefense ammo your going to use. warning becareful for the buckshot.......ive been using shotsize 6 and good luck with the mods peace

@zenanskig the lightness of the gun is what contributes to the recoil. I recommend you get a Knoxx SpecOps Stock...it has a recoil reducing system

@zenanskig No but I have fired one with a knoxx attachement..the difference is night and day..I am getting a knoxx pistol grip for my shotgun...they say it reduces felt recoil by 50%.....I have a pistol grip forend on mine as well...which further helps reduce recoil. Those can be had for a few bucks and they help you control recoil and muzzle climb

I have an 88 and my max cap is 5 in the tube and one in the pipe. How did you get max cap of 8? And I have removed the wooden dowel from the barrel as well.

Another difference between the moss. 500 and this gun is the moss. has two holes on top of the reciever to mount a scope the maverick does not have these holes. I have the maverick myself and I really like it. I had a mossberg 500 but i traded it off a while ago but i like the maverick just as much.

I paid $249.99 for mine I'm in Miami and guns are more expensive here ...you may be able to get it cheaper....also it is cheaper than the Mossberg 500
