Some of these people are freaking out way too much. Clearly the dog knows and is trying to not hurt him. Anytime he almost steps on him he's quick to move. I do agree that accidents happen but the dog wouldn't hurt him on purpose. They were playing.
My bird died that way....and yours may too. So far youve been lucky, and you have a good dog. But accidents DO and WILL happen....when he is injured and your vet tells you theres nothing that can be done, and your bird looks up at you with pleading eyes to help his pain before he dies in your hands, then maybe you'll learn, like I did. A beautiful intelligent, wonderful animal dieing because I was a know it all and failed to yeild advice. Unfortunately it sounds like you will too.I hope not.
Geez, relax people... as far as I could see, it looks like the dobe was the one getting smacked around, not the bird. Lots of parents have their baby play with a dobe and I'm pretty sure that a baby has far less defensive skills than a conure. I'm sure if the owner saw any agression from the dog he would've intervened immediately.
@333pinkelephant333 have you ever had a pen roll off the table and not be able to grab it in time? Now picture the pen has 40 pounds worth of muscle and is built to hunt and kill things and instead of falling off a table its biting at the bird.....If youve ever let that pen drop how can you say its so easy to be "quick enough" to stop a dog from biting something? Not that id be putting my hand between a dogs mouth and its prey anyway.
I have a green cheek conure (which is the type of bird in this video) and I can't imagine letting a dog, especially of that size, anywhere near my bird! That is extremely dangerous! That poor bird could get hurt or killed even if they are just playing. One wrong move by that dog could cause serious problems. Accidents do happen! So even though it hasn't happened YET, that doesn't mean that it never will! :(
You should realize that if the conure has any trace of the dogs saliva on him he can become very very ill and most likely pass away both cats and dogs have bacteria in their system that can cause a conure to be in danger of many sicknesses
So maybe you people should read up on things before acting in a way that is extremely dangerous
if anybody let that happen to my green cheek i'd put them into a hospital, that bird is scared for it's life, you're an idiot for even thinking this is amusing
my dog knows not to do that around my birds. we know that any small mistake from the dog could end up with the birds dead. the dog knows that so well that he is even a little uncomfortable around the birds because he knows to be careful! never let your dog do that, the bird could end up dead, and who wants that?
that bird can easily be hit by the dogs paw and get injured. you say 3 years on and the bird and dog are fine well to be honest i dont believe you and you should be put in a cage with a gorilla or something to see how you like it. that bird is terrified
thats REALLY irresponsible; that little bird could be killed or severly injured by one errant paw swat or misstep by the dog. I have a doberman and a parrot and i NEVER permit my dog to act like this around the bird; my doberman HAS to step SLOWLY and CAREFULLY around the bird, any sudden movement by my dog is INSTANTLY and STRONGLY corrected, so my dog knows that only the most slow and carefuly movements around the parrot are permitted or no contact is permitted at all.
@psustang89 Still, it's something to think about you know. I was worried the poor thing might accidentally get thrown across the room lol. It made me laugh though.

Sweet dog. I have 4 dogs and 4 birds including a green cheek. They all get along fine in the house with everyone having freedom outside their cages/ crates. Obviously, the green cheek can stand up for herself, otherwise she would have tried to run/fly in the opposite direction.
This dog is showing nothing but the utmost respect and restraint, and letting the little conure play big alpha doggie. People, take note, these are highly evolved beings just having some fun. Thanks for sharing
Aw!!!!!!!!!! so cute :D. I don't see why everyone is being such a party pooper. Obviously they are playing like a puppies. Just chill out bird is still alive.
ok you see the dog? dogs that are tamed still have a hunting skill but not as superior to those wild dogs, because they dont need to but even though their hunting skills exist like a puppys hunting skill in the wild. you ever see those videos where a cheeta injures a dear and lets it cub to play with the half "kill" this dog is at that stage the dog is showing curious + hunting skill. dogs love humans but other pets if they were not raised with as puppy nothing seems as its so be careful.
Awesome video! Your doberman is really smart to be so gentle with your bird. Well trained dog! And what a pretty and cute conure. I just got a green cheek too. I was smiling the whole time I watched this.
I can see that the Dog is definitely playing around but the green cheek conure is displaying agressive behavior I don't think he/she very much likes the dog trying to play with him especially because his feathers are erect and his tail is fanned out thats typical agressive/defensive behavior.
This is terribly irresponsible. Yes, I get the doberman is playing (it's obvious), but he is still being too rough around something that small! Anything could happen. He could trip and fall on the bird, or he could misplace a step, or maybe he could even just mouth the bird out of play and accidentally kill him. Don't you all see that this is just not a very smart situation? And the green cheek is NOT playing. Notice his ruffled feathers and the shrieks? He's scared and defending himself...
This is just terrible. That poor bird looked so stressed out! I'm surprised it still has feathers! Even if your Doberman was only playing, it is still 500 times bigger and stronger than a Green Cheek. Even accidentally nipping it, or stepping on it will kill the poor bird.
I don't even let my tiny cocker near my Green Cheek for that exact reason. You should never ever let them play so rough together!
@TheKokihi Its called learning your pets quirks and body language. Look how gentle and careful the doby is being. That's fully play behavior with no aggression. Notice that when it puts its mouth near the bird, it keeps its mouth shut, more nudging than biting. The dog is careful each time it lays down to pull its foot back. Plus.. if the bird really wanted to get away, it would. That bird is -playing-.
Yes this is a risky situation, but the doberman seems to know what he's doing and we could trust the owner to know that the situation is safe, plus GCCs are much sturdier little birds than you might think. I have one myself, and she'd take on just about anything. This isn't a display of fear, if the bird was frightened, her behaviour would show it. This is the bird's way of showing the dog he can't push her around.
Believe it or not, people, some animals can co-exist. This video proves that. The owner was obviously watching the whole time. He stopped things before they could get too serious. Not to mention, watch the body language of the dog. You an tell that it is being very careful of the bird. The only one who could possibly be seen as reckless is the conure. haha I have a green cheek conure and he is not afraid of anything. Neither is the little one in this video.
It's cute and scary we all kno bad things could happen but they didn't I think this is a great show of how this breed the big bad Doberman shows intelligence and kindness it could Easley kill the bird and chooses not to.
@nitalemon2002 Your dogs may not be socialized to other animals in the house hold. His doberman OBVIOUSLY IS! This dog looks more intrigued by the bird than interested in eating it! He was enjoying playtime with a buddy and you are spreading more fear and hate and intolerance by saying that the bird isn't safe with their dog! That's no better than anyone else on the BSL bandwagon. Get a life you BUM!
Though the dog is pretty cute, the poor bird doesn't look like he is having much fun. Even if the bird is enjoying playing with his big buddy he may get hurt. Much precaution is suggested!
The Doberman ranks very high as a playful, silly breed. The dog seen here isn't exhibiting any negative behaviors. I see plenty of play bowing and nudging on his part; there's no mouthing of the bird. I've seen alot of shameful videos of cats stalking pet rabbits and grabbing at their scruff while everyone laughs. I have to say that the bird doesn't seem to be having as much fun as the dog though.
Oh give me a break. Doberman are some of the most gentle and intelligent animals out there. I had a tiny jack russel and our doberman never ever laid a paw on him and she has at least 60 pounds on him, she was always the most gentle to people and other animals. You can tell the dog is holding back and not trying to hurt, he understands and sees that that is a small animal thta is fragile and not prey because his owner properly trained him.
My sister had a dog and her daughter later got a bird and it only took one time for the bird to peck the dog in the snout and he knew bettter to leave the bird alone. I don't know if I would do that with a dog or even a cat. Some pets can play together and some really should be kept separate. I knew someone that had 2 dobermans and they were given a small white poodle. Those two dogs tore that poor dog to shreds within minutes.
Watching this video, I'd be surprised if the little bird is still alive. It's a shame. Green cheeks can live 25-30 years and dogs what, 10-12? For people who think it's okay to let your predator pets (dogs, cats) play with your prey pets (parrots) as long as you supervise the play, ask yourself who has faster reflexes, you or your pet. Something bad will happen in the blink of an eye and you'll be too slow to stop it. Getting bitten to death by a dog is a gruesome way to die.
@psustang89 you dont have to be anti-dog to realize how stupid it is to let a tiny bird play with a 50 pound dog. Dogs are clumsy and stupid, regardless of if your dog thinks the bird is a "chew toy" or not, it could make on wrong step and crush the bird in an instant.
I own two dogs and usually have atleast 3-4 dogs in my house at one time, so dont try and act like im "anti-dog", thats BS.
@tronclay "i own two dogs blah blah i'm not anti-dog" that's like saying that just because you have a baby means you're a loving parent. why would you call your pets' species "clumsy and stupid"?
@subpolarity Its called "Reality", Bud. Do you even OWN a dog? Dogs for the most part are clumsy animals depending on the breed, especially larger breeds like dobermans, labs etc. Your comparison between dogs and babies is really stupid. you are comparing having a childen and loving it to having a dog and not being anti-dog. Why would I have dogs if i were against dogs? Think about the words, eventually they will make sense.
@psustang89 I have to agree with scorpienna, and I don't find him/her anti-dog. I'm currently owned a Black-capped Conure, but am also a dog lover, who used to be accompanied by dogs including Doberman. It's not about whether the human is there to supervise their interaction, or whether the dog is tame or gentle or whatever, animals simply have their own instinctual reactions.
@scorpienna Learn how to read your pets body language. That dog's in full play mode and no aggression. If it decides to turn and attack.. he's not going to be play bowing beforehand. Plus, notice how he puts his muzzle near the bird.. he keeps his mouth shut.
@PyreCurse do you even own a dog? All your talk about "knowing your dog" is bullshit. Dogs are clumsy and stupid and you cannot trust one not to crush a one ounce bird by accident. You cant even trust a dog not to eat its own crap, dont expect it not to have an accident around a tiny creature.
@scorpienna You are right in a sense, but it's not your animal either way. And by the looks of this bird, i don't think the dog would take a chance... LOL
@scorpienna Dogs have strong pack instincts, if he can adapt to having 2-legged humans as pack members, why not birds? For all you know about birds, you don't know jack about dogs. Because if you did, you could clearly tell that he fully accepts the bird as a pack member and does not want to hurt him.
cute "bad dobbie" takes such great care not to trample on the angry little bird....he keeps his mouth shut, probably knows it's a vulnerable little bird,so he doesn't play like he would with another doggie....cute
mais faites attention quand même ! Le Doberman est un grand chien et un coup de dents ou de pattes peut partir tout seul.... Je ne pense pas que la conure y survivrait :S
This bird is quite obviously NOT afraid of the dog. Maybe a little fussed up but not scared or very angry. This is dangerous, yeah, but he stopped it quickly. The dog seemed to be gentle. Lighten up people. As for wing clipping it's a little wrong (creature that's meant to fly who can't) but it can be safer sometimes. At least until you and the bird bond.
This is not very smart. I know they're being playful and all, but if that dog accidentally landed a paw on the conure and not the floor (which I almost saw in this video) it would probably suffer from some injury.
Your Green cheek conure is a little fighter. I cant believe how gentle the doberman is with him. We have a green cheek conure and his a cranky thing too, and there's never a dull moment when his around!
What if someone that should love you (and care about you) CUTS your legs and makes you play with something/someone you are scared of? At least let him be able to (FLY) decide if he wants to "play" that "game" or not!!!!
The bird isn't scared of the dog, everytime the dog is further away the bird chases after him. My bird hasn't got his wings clipped, but he does chase after my two dogs, although my dogs are smaller than a doberman and my bird is a little bigger than this one!
Wing clipping CAN be safer for the bird incase it flies into closed windows (my budgie died by doing that), or flies out of one!
I would be worried that the dog could land on the bird by accident though.
You tell me to have sex with a bird and you call me a sicko? It seem that you may have the latent desire to fornacate with animals. Perhaps you should seek professional help.
That dog may think this is fun, but the bird is not. It's being aggressive, because it feels threatened. You're an irresponsible owner for putting your bird through this.
ok as the owner of a sun conure and a greyhound dog i just have to advise against this the dog looks like it was putting saliva on the bird and not only is dog saliva toxic to birds but so is human. just a thought while i was watching this but i notice that some comments are saying RIP so I want to say im sorry for your loss birds really are amazing companions
That is one of the most controlled dogs I have ever seen. I mean he consciously avoided hurting the bird at least 3 times. You got a great dog really.
screw what TheGreenCheekConure says, our Golden Crown Conure plays with our doberman. He actually calls her over to his cage. (he's mastered her whistle call) When she gets to his cage he steps down on her head they play. Never unsupervised of course but they love each other. Kudos to you for bringing animals together!
Personally I wouldn't play like this. My last bird died because it was killed by a large dog. She was minding her own business AND the dog was totally tame. The owner was shocked his dog lunged for the bird sitting on top of her cage. So I lost my pretty Lala to a dog :(
HAHA you don't even know how stupid you look. Go spend $150 on a green cheek conure and then throw it in with a fucking dog and then see what you think.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
ok fuck you you bitch, what gives you the right to talk to people like that and tell them what they should and shouldn't do. i hav 6 birds and 1 dog. the birds are on the floor sometimes and sure the dog plays with them.
oh and by the way GO FUCK YOUR MOM IN THE BACK OF A PICKUP TRUCK
Dogs got an amazing skill to know where they legs are 100% better then we do. Many dogs and this one it looks like know when to play rough and when to play "nice". Your pathetic.
Your fucking retarded. Dogs arent as smart as your perceiving them to be. If you agree that a little bird can play safely with a dogs then your an inspiration to retards everywhere.
I have lost a bird to a dog merely trying to play with it.. I strongly advise you not to continue this. I am not trying to ruin you fun but this video realy brings back the heartbreak of the loss of my bird by an accident playing with a dog
I am so sorry for your loss...our CGC died trying to cuddle with my brother early in the morning...it would get out of its cage and go to our beds and chill by our heads...but one day my bro didn't feel him climb up and crushed him...I miss our Quito =(
Golden Crown conures are too, you should see ours play with our doberman, total hilarity when the doberman hides behind me when the bird puffs his chest out lol
What a good dog!! I would have been worried about the bird getting squashed accidentally. Do they do that often?

Like some others have said though, too many times does this kind of play end badly. :( Not insulting your animals, they are gorgeous. :)
Also, how short are the green cheek's wings clipped? They look pretty fiercely clipped. :(

Awesome video! Your doberman is really smart to be so gentle with your bird. Well trained dog! And what a pretty and cute conure. I just got a green cheek too. I was smiling the whole time I watched this.

from 1:01 to 1:04 the dog is giveing the conure a terminator stare lolol
MiniEggEater51 1 year ago
I can see that the Dog is definitely playing around but the green cheek conure is displaying agressive behavior I don't think he/she very much likes the dog trying to play with him especially because his feathers are erect and his tail is fanned out thats typical agressive/defensive behavior.
Nicky1026 1 year ago
This is terribly irresponsible. Yes, I get the doberman is playing (it's obvious), but he is still being too rough around something that small! Anything could happen. He could trip and fall on the bird, or he could misplace a step, or maybe he could even just mouth the bird out of play and accidentally kill him. Don't you all see that this is just not a very smart situation? And the green cheek is NOT playing. Notice his ruffled feathers and the shrieks? He's scared and defending himself...
chinniebaby 1 year ago 2
This is just terrible. That poor bird looked so stressed out! I'm surprised it still has feathers! Even if your Doberman was only playing, it is still 500 times bigger and stronger than a Green Cheek. Even accidentally nipping it, or stepping on it will kill the poor bird.
I don't even let my tiny cocker near my Green Cheek for that exact reason. You should never ever let them play so rough together!
TheKokihi 1 year ago

Stelmika03 1 year ago
Believe it or not, people, some animals can co-exist. This video proves that. The owner was obviously watching the whole time. He stopped things before they could get too serious. Not to mention, watch the body language of the dog. You an tell that it is being very careful of the bird. The only one who could possibly be seen as reckless is the conure. haha I have a green cheek conure and he is not afraid of anything. Neither is the little one in this video.
Relax and stop lecturing.

It's cute and scary we all kno bad things could happen but they didn't I think this is a great show of how this breed the big bad Doberman shows intelligence and kindness it could Easley kill the bird and chooses not to.

@nitalemon2002 YOUR dog might think your bird is a chew toy, my doberman however does not.
psustang89 1 year ago
@nitalemon2002 Your dogs may not be socialized to other animals in the house hold. His doberman OBVIOUSLY IS! This dog looks more intrigued by the bird than interested in eating it! He was enjoying playtime with a buddy and you are spreading more fear and hate and intolerance by saying that the bird isn't safe with their dog! That's no better than anyone else on the BSL bandwagon. Get a life you BUM!
mikeredrugger 1 year ago
Though the dog is pretty cute, the poor bird doesn't look like he is having much fun. Even if the bird is enjoying playing with his big buddy he may get hurt. Much precaution is suggested!
Ariana0902 1 year ago
The Doberman ranks very high as a playful, silly breed. The dog seen here isn't exhibiting any negative behaviors. I see plenty of play bowing and nudging on his part; there's no mouthing of the bird. I've seen alot of shameful videos of cats stalking pet rabbits and grabbing at their scruff while everyone laughs. I have to say that the bird doesn't seem to be having as much fun as the dog though.
d0pesick 1 year ago
oka that bird is pissed off.... XD
silleren 1 year ago
Oh give me a break. Doberman are some of the most gentle and intelligent animals out there. I had a tiny jack russel and our doberman never ever laid a paw on him and she has at least 60 pounds on him, she was always the most gentle to people and other animals. You can tell the dog is holding back and not trying to hurt, he understands and sees that that is a small animal thta is fragile and not prey because his owner properly trained him.

THIS IS TOTALLY MY BIRD!
myraven05 1 year ago
My sister had a dog and her daughter later got a bird and it only took one time for the bird to peck the dog in the snout and he knew bettter to leave the bird alone. I don't know if I would do that with a dog or even a cat. Some pets can play together and some really should be kept separate. I knew someone that had 2 dobermans and they were given a small white poodle. Those two dogs tore that poor dog to shreds within minutes.
bonnieinca 1 year ago
Pretty funny. Hope the dog doesnt step on the bird by mistake. It happened to my first bird.
mxman311 1 year ago
Watching this video, I'd be surprised if the little bird is still alive. It's a shame. Green cheeks can live 25-30 years and dogs what, 10-12? For people who think it's okay to let your predator pets (dogs, cats) play with your prey pets (parrots) as long as you supervise the play, ask yourself who has faster reflexes, you or your pet. Something bad will happen in the blink of an eye and you'll be too slow to stop it. Getting bitten to death by a dog is a gruesome way to die.
scorpienna 1 year ago 25
@scorpienna One has to wonder why you are so anti-dog. The doberman and conure are both alive and well...
psustang89 1 year ago 9
@psustang89
How in any way was that statement anti-dog?
85Carlin 1 year ago
@psustang89 you dont have to be anti-dog to realize how stupid it is to let a tiny bird play with a 50 pound dog. Dogs are clumsy and stupid, regardless of if your dog thinks the bird is a "chew toy" or not, it could make on wrong step and crush the bird in an instant.
I own two dogs and usually have atleast 3-4 dogs in my house at one time, so dont try and act like im "anti-dog", thats BS.
tronclay 1 year ago
@tronclay "i own two dogs blah blah i'm not anti-dog" that's like saying that just because you have a baby means you're a loving parent. why would you call your pets' species "clumsy and stupid"?
subpolarity 5 months ago
@subpolarity Its called "Reality", Bud. Do you even OWN a dog? Dogs for the most part are clumsy animals depending on the breed, especially larger breeds like dobermans, labs etc. Your comparison between dogs and babies is really stupid. you are comparing having a childen and loving it to having a dog and not being anti-dog. Why would I have dogs if i were against dogs? Think about the words, eventually they will make sense.
tronclay 5 months ago
@tronclay never said you were against dogs. clumsy, fine. but stupid? seems a bit harsh.
subpolarity 5 months ago
@psustang89 and one has to wonder why you are so anti-bird.
Why the hell would you risk this. Jesus.
keat36 1 year ago
@psustang89 I have to agree with scorpienna, and I don't find him/her anti-dog. I'm currently owned a Black-capped Conure, but am also a dog lover, who used to be accompanied by dogs including Doberman. It's not about whether the human is there to supervise their interaction, or whether the dog is tame or gentle or whatever, animals simply have their own instinctual reactions.
quamobrem77 11 months ago
@scorpienna Learn how to read your pets body language. That dog's in full play mode and no aggression. If it decides to turn and attack.. he's not going to be play bowing beforehand. Plus, notice how he puts his muzzle near the bird.. he keeps his mouth shut.
PyreCurse 1 year ago
@PyreCurse do you even own a dog? All your talk about "knowing your dog" is bullshit. Dogs are clumsy and stupid and you cannot trust one not to crush a one ounce bird by accident. You cant even trust a dog not to eat its own crap, dont expect it not to have an accident around a tiny creature.
tronclay 1 year ago
@scorpienna You are right in a sense, but it's not your animal either way. And by the looks of this bird, i don't think the dog would take a chance... LOL
Camgurlof1990 11 months ago
@scorpienna Dogs have strong pack instincts, if he can adapt to having 2-legged humans as pack members, why not birds? For all you know about birds, you don't know jack about dogs. Because if you did, you could clearly tell that he fully accepts the bird as a pack member and does not want to hurt him.

Pierre27180 2 years ago
This bird is quite obviously NOT afraid of the dog. Maybe a little fussed up but not scared or very angry. This is dangerous, yeah, but he stopped it quickly. The dog seemed to be gentle. Lighten up people. As for wing clipping it's a little wrong (creature that's meant to fly who can't) but it can be safer sometimes. At least until you and the bird bond.

What if someone that should love you (and care about you) CUTS your legs and makes you play with something/someone you are scared of? At least let him be able to (FLY) decide if he wants to "play" that "game" or not!!!!
IlaRossetti 2 years ago
The bird isn't scared of the dog, everytime the dog is further away the bird chases after him. My bird hasn't got his wings clipped, but he does chase after my two dogs, although my dogs are smaller than a doberman and my bird is a little bigger than this one!
Wing clipping CAN be safer for the bird incase it flies into closed windows (my budgie died by doing that), or flies out of one!
I would be worried that the dog could land on the bird by accident though.
