Why is it that young NBA fans refuse to believe the athleticism of past NBA players no matter how many reputable stories exist... If it ain't on you tube video within 5 minutes these days than I guess it never happened. Nate Thurmond was 6' 11 back when they measured athletes barefoot, and he could out reach Chamberlains stunning 9' 6" reach. He was absolutely shredded with muscle definition, a spectacular specimen. What nocloud says is entirely possible, esp if Serge Ibaka can freethrow dunk.
@ericcollins81 Yes, Nate was a great center, maybe overshadowed a bit by Wilt and Bill.
I recall one play of his where he grabbed a defensive rebound, dribbled to the top of the (his basket) key, then leaped, carried by his momentum to slam the ball. That huge windmilling arm of his slammed the ball so hard, that it hit the back of the rim and flew back past center court. This play is etched in my mind.
@noclouds111 He still makes it to the rim while airborne in your description. Nate had a spectacular wing span, explosive power but no where near the vertical leap required to do that. I'm not accusing you of intentionally lying but people often exaggerate things that they saw as a child. What game are you mis-remembering?
@Sovnarkom If you'll take another read, you may discover that what I wrote does not necessarily indicate that he made it to the rim. It was his INTENTION to slam the ball. It was an awe inspiring play, and he did come very close to the rim. By your latest comment, you are critiquing a game which you've never seen. I saw the game and have reported the play exactly as it happened, and will never forget it. My friend, I think Nate's momentum carried you to the basket.

@noclouds111 No way Nate could dunk from the top of the key. Most of the great leapers, can barely do it from the free throw line.

@Sovnarkom If you read my comment, you'd see that he wasn't successful. Did you read it?
