Light fans seem to ignore the fact that Light didn't want to just get rid of all the criminals and change the world for the better, nearly from the beginning, he was adamant that he was going to kill everyone he didn't like, everyone that got in his way and anyone else he deemed necessary to waste for his ultimate goal of World Domination. That WAS his ultimate goal and even if it wasn't... Who's to say that some weren't wrongly accused and convicted? Politicians are the real criminals anyway.

I understand Light's views, however, he was an idealist. And idealistic views never fair too well in the real world, do they? He had good intentions but played them out in completley the wrong way. It's sad that so many greats had to die for it though. In all honesty, I think he only did what he did because he could. He had never really aspired to change the world before, only when he was granted the power to do so, did he. Power corrupts us all, but we all crave it...

I also loved how this theme fits in with what L says in different ways throughout the entire story; that he and Kira are really very similar - almost frighteningly so. If you understand the things that make them different people, their choices, you understand both of them better.

I find it tragic. Light-kun was a good person, but the death note brought out the darkness that there is in all humans. It corrupted and ultimately killed him. Like that part when he wasn't Kira or at least didn't remember he was Kira. He was a completely different person. If the death note had never fallen into his hands...but yes they are very much alike. They were like two sides to a coin, they together made a complete whole. Or atleast that's how I think about it.

I completely agree. His intentions were pure. He just didn't realize that his actions would cause chaos, not a perfect world. Its sad to think of how he was a student at the top of his class, bound for success, and in the end his innocence faded and he died because of trying to save the world from itself. I just don't understand all the Light haters. They don't seem to recognize that Light stands for the dark side in all of us. They need to understand him before they condemn.

L is a great character as well, I just find the roller coaster of emotions Light exhibits the changes he goes through in the series so fascinating. People just don't want admit that they would have been at least a bit tempted to take the same path he did. It has been a dream for ages for a crime free world, but it has proved to be out of our hands to control for we cannot control the actions of others, nor punish everyone that has committed crimes. There are simply not enough hours in the day.

@OkitaAoyagi The apple symbolizes man vs. evil all throughout the episode... you'll notice when light has the notebook the shinigami has apples and thirsts for apples and light is full of sin and evil. Also the symbolism of L eating sweets all the time... and before he dies he is stacking empty sugar packets. Writers and artists did a great job in story development
