FL's default sounds are indeed crap. I've added a helluva' lot of content onto my studio. You don't have to be limited to just the generic stuff. =P I've got hundreds of different drums samples, FX hits, cymbals and other stuff. I've also got several synthesizers like TOXIC, Sytrus, Surge, Zebra, Juno and a couple others. No matter what DAW you decide to get it's important to get lots of new material to work into your songs.

@Vladi306 agreed it's all about your own sounds. Give Reason a try. You can literally make any sound you can think of with that software and everything routes like it would in real life/sounds like it would in real life.

In a very short time you can be putting together some really cool stuff.
