Paulus definitely wasn't a premiere point guard for us...he should have played football out of high school..however comparing him to Singler is retarded because Singler was outstanding during his time at duke and I believe he will be a solid role player one day in the NBA.
The thing that I don't agree with is that Hurley didn't get it nearly as bad because the little guy was tough. He took a massive screen from Malcolm Mackey in the 90s and was out about 30 seconds. Paulus was just a little flopping bitch. I have respect for Hurley but Paulus can lick Tar Heel nuts.
No Teabag was a great white hope pretender just like Singler is now. Nolan Smith and Irving are the real deal so were Laettner and Hurley. I just think a lot of Duke guys later got the benefit of the doubt on the reputations of previous players.
@jbwell24 they do have black guys. Recruitment looks into their family background to make sure that both parents at least have masters or phds (or a steady job that ranks upper middle class). I'm not joking that is literally how Duke recruitment functions.
@EightAvalanche Oh really? Explain Nolan Smith growing up with a single parent? Quin Cook as well? AND kyrie Irving? Duke picks who they think will help the team, not social class you ignorant fuck. Uncle tom's my ass
@SpellmanMusic Nolan Smith has a famous father named Derek Smith. Just cause he grew up without a father (god bless) does not mean he is lower class. Overrated? Almost every commentator had us being beat by Texas. We exceeded expectations this year. I'm happy with my team this year.
And whats with you and your personal vendetta against Paulus? Are you on his dick that hard that you can't even talk shit about Duke's starters? By the way, Paulus led the ACC in assists during his freshman year (and he's the only freshman to ever do that).... All that aside, who is your team then?
Well, he helped lead this year's Duke team to a sweep over VT. Sounds pretty significant to me. Speaking of which, how's that NIT tournament coming? Oh yeah... And I guess you need to make up some sort of excuse over the fact that Duke owns VT.
Here's the deal, Paulus isn't my favorite player, but he is head and shoulders above the majority of Americans when it comes to basketball.
"Bitch out?" Its hard to call it bitching out when they're still able to win 30 games in a season. Also, isn't a three a lower percentage shot than an inside shot? So, wouldn't it be tougher to get a lot of assists on a lower percentage shot versus a lay-up? Nice try dumbass.
As for your second post Wildabeest, not sure what you're trying to say. Yes, it is not my favorite thing that we were down so big to Nova, but we had a very off night, and Nova's a good team. Can't tell if your an unc fan or not, but if you are, maybe you should save the shit talking for after your matchup with them.
"what does it feel like sittin at home in durham watchin UNC play in the final 4?"
About as bad as going 8-20 and not even going to the NIT... or going to the NIT the next year.
yes it is bitching out. when you cant drive to the basket against real defenders and just settle for the open jumper. thats why the lose when they lose because when no one hits from the outside no one mans up and tries get something done, instead they just keep shooting threes.
and no actually, its easier to get an assist when no one on your team dribbles. and if all your players are catch and shoot players, like they are, all you have to do is pass the ball. unlike ty lawson who is a playmaker
So you are a Carolina fan... makes sense. Regardless of what happened two years later, you did go 8-20. Then you couldn't even make the NCAA tourny the next year. Even when you did win the tournament, you still lost to Santa Clara. Must have missed Felton a lot, huh? On our down years we bow out of the NCAA tournament early. On yours you have trouble making the NIT. BTW, in your 8-20 season, you didn't have the same players as in '05. But they stepped it up in '02 didn't they?
OK, so, here's what I'm hearing. Duke loses when they miss shots. Now, generally, most teams lose when they miss shots. If our players can hit threes, then when they are left wide open, they better shoot that shot. Duke has proven they can bang inside... they did outrebound most teams that they played.
And now you are actually going to tell me that it is easier to get an assist off a long shot than off a short jumper or layup? Come on man. And Lawson's a good player, never said he wasn't.
im sayin its easier to get an assist when the person you pass it to is gonna shoot. yes it harder to make a 3 but you dont get wide open layups like you do 3s. the person with the ball has to work for it down low, therefore drobbling. what im sayin is that paulus isnt a drive and dish player, he gets his assits off what the guy with ball does instead of setting him up for the shot.
I understand what you're saying, but that wasn't the case during the year that he got all his assists. During that year, we had both Sheldon Williams and Josh McRoberts down low. Therefore, quite a few of his assists were to our big men. Of course we also had JJ at that point, so I'm not going to argue that he wasn't the recipient of a few of the assists, but it was evenly distributed. Much like it has been for Ty Lawson.
ok lets get something straight, we lead duke in ncaa titles, tournament appearances, national players of the year, acc players of the year, final four appearances, regular season titles, and as of this year duke tied us for acc titles so if you want to talk about who has the most consistant team then lets talk!
not to mention the success of unc players in the nba.
Although I obviously can't argue with the facts, I will argue that since Duke became a relevant threat in college basketball, they have been more successful and more consistent. I will agree however, that UNC has been more consistent over the course of the entire history of college basketball. Although Duke was a consistently average team up until the 80s...haha. For the record, Duke players as of now are more successful than UNC players in the NBA though.
aight man. but i do disagree about dukes nba players. well besides all that, i think that we have both come to a point when theres not much left to argue or discuss cause we are both die hard fans and we could go on for days goin back and forth about stupid shit, so lets go ahead and agree to disagree.
btw where do you live in NC and did you go to the carolina mudcats game tonight?
Let me complete that for you... Michael Jordan was a slightly above average college basketball player. And since we're talking college basketball, what he went on to do in the pros isn't relevant.
You are easily the most ill inforned and ignorant Dook fan I have ever seen. BTW, JJ is the most classless Dook player ever, and that's saying alot considering Laettner went to Dook.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Jordan wasn't anything incredible in college, but he was insane in the NBA. What about that isn't true? And what did JJ do that was classless? I will admit that Laettner was a dirty player, but name a player who isn't.
Michael Jordan, named NCAA College Player of the Year in 1983 and 1984. Winner of the Dr. James Naismith Award and the John Wooden Award in 1984. Unanimous First Team All-America selection in 1983 and 1984. Member of 1982 NCAA Division I championship team.
Poor choice of words on my part, what I'm trying to say is that what he did in the NBA will always overshadow his accomplishments in college. The only ones who still hang on to Jordan as a UNC player are UNC fans... to everyone else, he'll always be a member of one of the best teams in NBA history. But I will admit, I downplayed his college career, I just don't like to associate him with Carolina.
Any NBA player who had a significant college career will always have some association to their alma mater. Magic-Michigan State, Bird-Indiana State, Shaq-LSU, etc... Jordan will always be associated with UNC, You continually show how biased you are towards Dook and not truly a fan of the sport.
Alright, you believe what you want to believe. The only thing I can come up with is that you aren't from Tobacco Road. Otherwise, I think you'd understand the bias. But yeah, I'll agree, they'll always have some association to their alma mater... but only to people that pull for the alma mater.
JJ was a fine player with a good shot but he walked away with no rings. Too bad. He didn't make those around him better. That came from the mouths of my Duke friends not mine. There is over the top fanatacism and reality. They about choked when they saw your comment that Jordan wasn't anything in college. They think you are tool. BTW, the were regular Cameron crazies and went to every game. Did you???
hahahaha, okay. I must have missed where I said he "wasn't anything" in college. Or are you referring to where I called him an "above average player," then admitted that even that was a bit of an understatement. I'm sorry that I'm not on Jordan's dick like you. And lets face it, you could argue Jordan didn't make his team any better, they were stacked anyway. So, let's not go there. And your Duke friends think I'm a "tool?" Man, I really wanted to get their approval (if they even exist).
I am sorry, allow me to improve my heathen word use. "I apologize for my refusal to follow your impeccable lead and exalt the Great Michael Jordan." There, don't want you to avoid an entire post because you disagree with my use of 3 words which have no real bearing on the argument. You're either very good or very bad at debating. Good because you successfully change the subject every time you don't have an answer, or bad because you just have nothing to say anymore.
Please get me back on track. I thought we were talking about class and sportsmanship and whether Jordan had an above average college career and whether or not NBA legacy's include the alma mater. What did I miss?
That is what we were talking about. You've just turned that into something a lot longer and honestly kind of useless. I've admitted that he was a good ball player, and you're not going to get anything more out of me about that. I didn't say he sucked in college, I've admitted he was good. My point has been that with the exception of a few players, all sports figures have made mistakes. That doesn't make them any less of athletes.
I haven't said anything about anything he's done in his career, just that people haven't exactly been the most cordial when he played against them. You, on the other hand, have pretty much expected me to come out and say Jordan was the best player ever. If I'm not mistaken, you've said more about JJ than I have even. Don't get me wrong, I do believe he was one of the best Duke players ever, but I'm not going to get all defensive about it.
You are making assumptions, I never expected or wanted you to say Jordan was the best college player ever, but to deny his association with UNC or to claim that nobody knows he came from UNC other than UNC fans is a bit of an exaggeration. Everybody know Kareem and Walton are from UCLA, everyone knows where Laettner, Hurley, Jay Williams, JJ ,Brand, etc... came from, Duke. not just fans of that particular school. That is if they are fans of the sport and not just one team.
just because you don't like UNC doesn't mean UNC is suddenly invisible. You may hate a school but give respect where respect is due. Duke has a great program but I don't disavow any achievement made by the program or it's players. that's the difference between you and me.
NBA players that had great college careers will always have that as part of their legacy and not just to those that are fans of the alma mater. To say otherwise is ignorant. It just shows you are simply a Dook fan, not a fan of the sport.
JJ was consistently dirty like hitting guys in the balls when he drove to the basket and most of all walking straight off the court without shaking hands in his last college game when Duke lost in the NCAA tournament. What a baby. Never seen that before, ever.
Either that was sarcasm, or you didn't see arguably the best player in the nba walk off the court without so much as a word after losing to the Magic. Certainly not excusing it, but they're just human, can't fault them too much for getting emotional about the game. JJ was verbally abused by every road team's fans (F*** You JJ chant, etc.) yet never responded negatively. He went out and played ball. A couple isolated incidents doesn't make someone consistently dirty.
You constantly show how biased you are against Duke and are not truly a fan of the sport. When was the last time you turned on a game and said, "Man, he sure can't play but wow, I always love to see him stay classy." You don't watch sports to see how you should act, you watch them because they're entertainment and they're pretty much the best things ever. Regardless, he's met the most hostile crowds in the US, can't blame him for losing his composure.
I have tons of friends who are Duke fans and are fiercely loyal yet remain classy and respect the sport. They think guys like you are and embarrassment to Duke basketball. You obviously have no concept of sportsmanship or class. Enough said. Go one being a foolish Dook fan.
Yeah, my idea of respect and sportsmanship are completely out of line. I'm commenting on a video in which a Duke player was continually insulted by an opposing team's fans. Yet, I'm guessing you're a UNC fan, and your on here talking bad about players from Duke when your team isn't even involved. So, who's really showing poor sportsmanship? BTW, way to avoid everything I said in my earlier post. It's easy to argue when you ignore anything that goes against your beliefs, huh?
Ihaven't said a thing about Duke. JJ on the other hand is a disappointment. He needs to lay off the Ruth's Chris and work on his NBA game. Guys like Magic, Bird, Erving, Russell, etc played the game hard and stayed classy. I'd rather watch them than some punk no matter how good they are. So yes, class is important in sports.
Magic Johnson cheated on his wife and apparently Larry Bird said the "N" word recently. The fact of the matter is everyone slips up (with the exception of Bill Russell it seems). So, if that is absolutely how you want to be, enjoy watching the (at most) 5 NBA players who are still classy. I for one do not watch sports so I can find someone to look up to, I watch them so I can see people who are the best at what they do. So, what players do you like?
Fair enough, I guess nobody is classy so don't get upset when someone calls JJ unclassy, which means I guess he is just like alot of players. Doesn't mean I have to like it or respect him for it.
Duke is a good bball program and deserves respect, however they have some of the lamest fans in all of sports. Dishes it out but can't take it. They set a bad example for all fans and have helped create a culture of abuse. JJ gets it because of what Dookies started.
There is a difference between a Cameron Crazy chant and a Terrapin chant (or any other school for that matter). When was the last time you heard any Duke chant that used profanity? As for the "dishing it out but can't take it," who's the one making false sweeping generalizations about a school?
"Culture of abuse?" Is this your senior thesis or something?
Finally, "JJ gets it bc of what Dookies started." How do you justify that with all your respect and sportsmanship?
I don't condone it, and MD fans are just as crude if not more so, but what I have seen is fans have gotten worse over the years as the Dookies led the way and alot of it was retaliation for some out of bounds Dook behavior. Herman Veal anyone?
Oh the Cameron Crazies would have continued to get worse if Coach K hadn't had enough and had to reign them in, Even he was getting embarrased by them.
Again, every school has a few bad fans, don't make generalizations about them all. Carolina isn't exactly the most moral school either. And one more thing, what have Duke fans done that is so bad? I'm really curious on this. I'm not saying that the Veal thing was right or wrong... if he did it, then he deserved to be criticized, if not, then it wasn't in good taste. But don't forget, the Duke Lacrosse team went through something similar... with even less evidence against them.
If Veal did it or not, it doesn't belong in a basketball game period. A lame cheapshot that has nothing to do with basketball. Duke lacrosse never dealt with a coordinated fan stunt like that. Most fans behaved themselves and kept it off the field. Don't forget it was the Duke administration that screwed the team almost as much as the renegade corrupt DA and lying alleged victim.
The fact is that Duke is the most notorious and nobody should be surprised when other schools come back at Duke with their own crap. Frankly, I don't agree with any of it regardless of which school it comes from. Sometimes it is funny, most of the time it is just stupid.
deron washington jumped clean over paulus twice last year...at your home court...in the same game. and its pretty easy to win when the refs miss the obvious calls isn't it?
We beat you last year and played you well this year.. some might say that you had a few calls go your way (like 3 in the last 2 minutes and 5 very questionable charges throughout the game). But I would never say those things because Duke never gets calls. Hopefully we will see you in the ACC tourny.. because you know you don't want to see us again.

All that aside, who is your team then?
jjmatt04 2 years ago
i bet it is easy to get assists when your team doesnt dribble because instead of driving to the hole the bitch out and shoot threes
wildabeest4 2 years ago
they can chant whatever they want. All that matters is what that final score says.
vefey 2 years ago
Well, he helped lead this year's Duke team to a sweep over VT. Sounds pretty significant to me. Speaking of which, how's that NIT tournament coming? Oh yeah... And I guess you need to make up some sort of excuse over the fact that Duke owns VT.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
you know its bad when youre losing by 20 to villanova and coach k sends in his scrubs (cough greg paulus cough) with 5 minutes left in the game.
what does it feel like sittin at home in durham watchin UNC play in the final 4?
wildabeest4 2 years ago
Here's the deal, Paulus isn't my favorite player, but he is head and shoulders above the majority of Americans when it comes to basketball.
"Bitch out?" Its hard to call it bitching out when they're still able to win 30 games in a season. Also, isn't a three a lower percentage shot than an inside shot? So, wouldn't it be tougher to get a lot of assists on a lower percentage shot versus a lay-up? Nice try dumbass.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
As for your second post Wildabeest, not sure what you're trying to say. Yes, it is not my favorite thing that we were down so big to Nova, but we had a very off night, and Nova's a good team. Can't tell if your an unc fan or not, but if you are, maybe you should save the shit talking for after your matchup with them.
"what does it feel like sittin at home in durham watchin UNC play in the final 4?"
About as bad as going 8-20 and not even going to the NIT... or going to the NIT the next year.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
2 years after an 8-20 season we won the national championship, WITH THE SAME PLAYERS! so say whatever you want to about that.
wildabeest4 2 years ago
yes it is bitching out. when you cant drive to the basket against real defenders and just settle for the open jumper. thats why the lose when they lose because when no one hits from the outside no one mans up and tries get something done, instead they just keep shooting threes.
and no actually, its easier to get an assist when no one on your team dribbles. and if all your players are catch and shoot players, like they are, all you have to do is pass the ball. unlike ty lawson who is a playmaker
wildabeest4 2 years ago
So you are a Carolina fan... makes sense. Regardless of what happened two years later, you did go 8-20. Then you couldn't even make the NCAA tourny the next year. Even when you did win the tournament, you still lost to Santa Clara. Must have missed Felton a lot, huh? On our down years we bow out of the NCAA tournament early. On yours you have trouble making the NIT. BTW, in your 8-20 season, you didn't have the same players as in '05. But they stepped it up in '02 didn't they?
jjmatt04 2 years ago
OK, so, here's what I'm hearing. Duke loses when they miss shots. Now, generally, most teams lose when they miss shots. If our players can hit threes, then when they are left wide open, they better shoot that shot. Duke has proven they can bang inside... they did outrebound most teams that they played.
And now you are actually going to tell me that it is easier to get an assist off a long shot than off a short jumper or layup? Come on man. And Lawson's a good player, never said he wasn't.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
im sayin its easier to get an assist when the person you pass it to is gonna shoot. yes it harder to make a 3 but you dont get wide open layups like you do 3s. the person with the ball has to work for it down low, therefore drobbling. what im sayin is that paulus isnt a drive and dish player, he gets his assits off what the guy with ball does instead of setting him up for the shot.
do you get what im sayin?
wildabeest4 2 years ago
I understand what you're saying, but that wasn't the case during the year that he got all his assists. During that year, we had both Sheldon Williams and Josh McRoberts down low. Therefore, quite a few of his assists were to our big men. Of course we also had JJ at that point, so I'm not going to argue that he wasn't the recipient of a few of the assists, but it was evenly distributed. Much like it has been for Ty Lawson.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
ok lets get something straight, we lead duke in ncaa titles, tournament appearances, national players of the year, acc players of the year, final four appearances, regular season titles, and as of this year duke tied us for acc titles so if you want to talk about who has the most consistant team then lets talk!
not to mention the success of unc players in the nba.
wildabeest4 2 years ago
Although I obviously can't argue with the facts, I will argue that since Duke became a relevant threat in college basketball, they have been more successful and more consistent. I will agree however, that UNC has been more consistent over the course of the entire history of college basketball. Although Duke was a consistently average team up until the 80s...haha. For the record, Duke players as of now are more successful than UNC players in the NBA though.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
aight man. but i do disagree about dukes nba players. well besides all that, i think that we have both come to a point when theres not much left to argue or discuss cause we are both die hard fans and we could go on for days goin back and forth about stupid shit, so lets go ahead and agree to disagree.
btw where do you live in NC and did you go to the carolina mudcats game tonight?

Fair enough, we're really not getting anywhere. I'm in Greensboro and no, I didn't.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
two words. Michael Jordan.
shockattack2 2 years ago
Let me complete that for you... Michael Jordan was a slightly above average college basketball player. And since we're talking college basketball, what he went on to do in the pros isn't relevant.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
You are easily the most ill inforned and ignorant Dook fan I have ever seen. BTW, JJ is the most classless Dook player ever, and that's saying alot considering Laettner went to Dook.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Jordan wasn't anything incredible in college, but he was insane in the NBA. What about that isn't true? And what did JJ do that was classless? I will admit that Laettner was a dirty player, but name a player who isn't.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
Michael Jordan, named NCAA College Player of the Year in 1983 and 1984. Winner of the Dr. James Naismith Award and the John Wooden Award in 1984. Unanimous First Team All-America selection in 1983 and 1984. Member of 1982 NCAA Division I championship team.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
Poor choice of words on my part, what I'm trying to say is that what he did in the NBA will always overshadow his accomplishments in college. The only ones who still hang on to Jordan as a UNC player are UNC fans... to everyone else, he'll always be a member of one of the best teams in NBA history. But I will admit, I downplayed his college career, I just don't like to associate him with Carolina.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
Any NBA player who had a significant college career will always have some association to their alma mater. Magic-Michigan State, Bird-Indiana State, Shaq-LSU, etc... Jordan will always be associated with UNC, You continually show how biased you are towards Dook and not truly a fan of the sport.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
Alright, you believe what you want to believe. The only thing I can come up with is that you aren't from Tobacco Road. Otherwise, I think you'd understand the bias. But yeah, I'll agree, they'll always have some association to their alma mater... but only to people that pull for the alma mater.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
JJ was a fine player with a good shot but he walked away with no rings. Too bad. He didn't make those around him better. That came from the mouths of my Duke friends not mine. There is over the top fanatacism and reality. They about choked when they saw your comment that Jordan wasn't anything in college. They think you are tool. BTW, the were regular Cameron crazies and went to every game. Did you???
csjvgirls 2 years ago
hahahaha, okay. And your Duke friends think I'm a "tool?" Man, I really wanted to get their approval (if they even exist).
jjmatt04 2 years ago
"on his dick" what a low class crude comment. Keep sinking lower. Grow up.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
I am sorry, allow me to improve my heathen word use. "I apologize for my refusal to follow your impeccable lead and exalt the Great Michael Jordan." There, don't want you to avoid an entire post because you disagree with my use of 3 words which have no real bearing on the argument. You're either very good or very bad at debating. Good because you successfully change the subject every time you don't have an answer, or bad because you just have nothing to say anymore.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
Please get me back on track. I thought we were talking about class and sportsmanship and whether Jordan had an above average college career and whether or not NBA legacy's include the alma mater. What did I miss?
csjvgirls 2 years ago
That is what we were talking about. You've just turned that into something a lot longer and honestly kind of useless. I've admitted that he was a good ball player, and you're not going to get anything more out of me about that. I didn't say he sucked in college, I've admitted he was good. My point has been that with the exception of a few players, all sports figures have made mistakes. That doesn't make them any less of athletes.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
Can't it just as easily be said, to use your words, that you should "get off JJ's dick"? Isn't that a double standard you are using?
csjvgirls 2 years ago
I haven't said anything about anything he's done in his career, just that people haven't exactly been the most cordial when he played against them. You, on the other hand, have pretty much expected me to come out and say Jordan was the best player ever. If I'm not mistaken, you've said more about JJ than I have even. Don't get me wrong, I do believe he was one of the best Duke players ever, but I'm not going to get all defensive about it.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
You are making assumptions, I never expected or wanted you to say Jordan was the best college player ever, but to deny his association with UNC or to claim that nobody knows he came from UNC other than UNC fans is a bit of an exaggeration. Everybody know Kareem and Walton are from UCLA, everyone knows where Laettner, Hurley, Jay Williams, JJ ,Brand, etc... came from, Duke. not just fans of that particular school. That is if they are fans of the sport and not just one team.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
just because you don't like UNC doesn't mean UNC is suddenly invisible. You may hate a school but give respect where respect is due. Duke has a great program but I don't disavow any achievement made by the program or it's players. that's the difference between you and me.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
NBA players that had great college careers will always have that as part of their legacy and not just to those that are fans of the alma mater. To say otherwise is ignorant. It just shows you are simply a Dook fan, not a fan of the sport.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
JJ was consistently dirty like hitting guys in the balls when he drove to the basket and most of all walking straight off the court without shaking hands in his last college game when Duke lost in the NCAA tournament. What a baby. Never seen that before, ever.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
Either that was sarcasm, or you didn't see arguably the best player in the nba walk off the court without so much as a word after losing to the Magic. Certainly not excusing it, but they're just human, can't fault them too much for getting emotional about the game. JJ was verbally abused by every road team's fans (F*** You JJ chant, etc.) yet never responded negatively. He went out and played ball. A couple isolated incidents doesn't make someone consistently dirty.

LeBron lost lots of respect for that move also. Classless, period. Both of them.
And giving the finger to the crowd is not responding negatively? Spoiled suburban kid.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
You constantly show how biased you are against Duke and are not truly a fan of the sport. When was the last time you turned on a game and said, "Man, he sure can't play but wow, I always love to see him stay classy." You don't watch sports to see how you should act, you watch them because they're entertainment and they're pretty much the best things ever. Regardless, he's met the most hostile crowds in the US, can't blame him for losing his composure.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
I have tons of friends who are Duke fans and are fiercely loyal yet remain classy and respect the sport. They think guys like you are and embarrassment to Duke basketball. You obviously have no concept of sportsmanship or class. Enough said. Go one being a foolish Dook fan.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
Yeah, my idea of respect and sportsmanship are completely out of line. I'm commenting on a video in which a Duke player was continually insulted by an opposing team's fans. Yet, I'm guessing you're a UNC fan, and your on here talking bad about players from Duke when your team isn't even involved. So, who's really showing poor sportsmanship? BTW, way to avoid everything I said in my earlier post. It's easy to argue when you ignore anything that goes against your beliefs, huh?
jjmatt04 2 years ago
Ihaven't said a thing about Duke. JJ on the other hand is a disappointment. He needs to lay off the Ruth's Chris and work on his NBA game. Guys like Magic, Bird, Erving, Russell, etc played the game hard and stayed classy. I'd rather watch them than some punk no matter how good they are. So yes, class is important in sports.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
Magic Johnson cheated on his wife and apparently Larry Bird said the "N" word recently. The fact of the matter is everyone slips up (with the exception of Bill Russell it seems). So, if that is absolutely how you want to be, enjoy watching the (at most) 5 NBA players who are still classy. I for one do not watch sports so I can find someone to look up to, I watch them so I can see people who are the best at what they do. So, what players do you like?
jjmatt04 2 years ago
Fair enough, I guess nobody is classy so don't get upset when someone calls JJ unclassy, which means I guess he is just like alot of players. Doesn't mean I have to like it or respect him for it.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
Ok, there we go. I think we can agree on this.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
Duke is a good bball program and deserves respect, however they have some of the lamest fans in all of sports. Dishes it out but can't take it. They set a bad example for all fans and have helped create a culture of abuse. JJ gets it because of what Dookies started.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
There is a difference between a Cameron Crazy chant and a Terrapin chant (or any other school for that matter). When was the last time you heard any Duke chant that used profanity? As for the "dishing it out but can't take it," who's the one making false sweeping generalizations about a school?
"Culture of abuse?" Is this your senior thesis or something?
Finally, "JJ gets it bc of what Dookies started." How do you justify that with all your respect and sportsmanship?
jjmatt04 2 years ago
I don't condone it, and MD fans are just as crude if not more so, but what I have seen is fans have gotten worse over the years as the Dookies led the way and alot of it was retaliation for some out of bounds Dook behavior. Herman Veal anyone?
csjvgirls 2 years ago
Oh the Cameron Crazies would have continued to get worse if Coach K hadn't had enough and had to reign them in, Even he was getting embarrased by them.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
Again, every school has a few bad fans, don't make generalizations about them all. Carolina isn't exactly the most moral school either. And one more thing, what have Duke fans done that is so bad? I'm really curious on this. I'm not saying that the Veal thing was right or wrong... if he did it, then he deserved to be criticized, if not, then it wasn't in good taste. But don't forget, the Duke Lacrosse team went through something similar... with even less evidence against them.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
If Veal did it or not, it doesn't belong in a basketball game period. A lame cheapshot that has nothing to do with basketball. Duke lacrosse never dealt with a coordinated fan stunt like that. Most fans behaved themselves and kept it off the field. Don't forget it was the Duke administration that screwed the team almost as much as the renegade corrupt DA and lying alleged victim.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
Fine, I'll agree with that to a point at least. The fact is, every school does it, and Duke wasn't the first, nor the worst.
As for the lacrosse thing, you can't really believe that they didn't have to hear about the rape case at every road game.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
I'm sure there were some individual bad fans, but there was no coordinated cheers or other en masse abuse. I guarantee you that.
csjvgirls 2 years ago
The fact is that Duke is the most notorious and nobody should be surprised when other schools come back at Duke with their own crap. Frankly, I don't agree with any of it regardless of which school it comes from. Sometimes it is funny, most of the time it is just stupid.

VT can keep hating on Paulus, he'll keep on winning games with the Blue Devils. How's it feel to be on the bubble? Keep hating bitches.
jjmatt04 2 years ago
can someone explain the rationale of that chant? Tea bag Reggie Love makes sense; Paulus, not so much.
But it's cool, keep the chants coming and we'll keep winning!
Go Duke!

deron washington jumped clean over paulus twice last year...at your home court...in the same game. and its pretty easy to win when the refs miss the obvious calls isn't it?

We beat you last year and played you well this year.. some might say that you had a few calls go your way (like 3 in the last 2 minutes and 5 very questionable charges throughout the game). But I would never say those things because Duke never gets calls. Hopefully we will see you in the ACC tourny.. because you know you don't want to see us again.
