My favorite lyric in this intimate song is "You're so much gentler than you seem . . . " Audra truly interprets so wonderfully with that resplendent voice. I remember back in the early 90s a friend of mine saw her in "Carousel" and said the world would be hearing more from her . . . how right he was and how lucky we are. :)
It's funny. You listen to her now and you think, her voice hasn't changed at all. And then you listen to this clip and you realize how AMAZING she was at the start of her career. Her voice is an instrument, utterly perfect!
The opening makes me think of something Mary Garden said of Nellie Melba's voice:
"...it just went out over the infinite, and hung there like a star...my God, how beautiful it was!"
