I've gotta say, I don't know which is cooler, the mixer or the plate reverb itself...I use those bread pans as well for these kinds of projects...I have one that I've built using 2 12AX7's for a little valve mixer...it really brings those piezo's to life...Excellent work...!!! You've nailed that 1960's studio sound...Thanks...!!!
@bsidewreckchords.... I'm better at using a soldering iron than a video camera but I will post one as soon as I find a cheap camera...I have a stockpile of projects I'd like to share....Thank You...BC
Your accent confused me, then I realised it was the same as mine. Sometimes you just get so used to foreign accents on here that our own becomes unfamiliar.
Hi, First of all amazing sound!! I am trying to recreate the sound of Miles Davis's "Kind Of Blue" and this sounds amazingly close. I checked your links but didn't see anything about this plates dimensions or thickness. I'd love to know more about the plate and speaker used if its not too much trouble.
@DIYGuitarMods Hi, no trouble at all. The plate is approx 600 x 1800 x 0.5mm. The speaker is an 8" Plessey from an old home stereo, probably an alnico but nothing amazing. It really doesn't take much to get the plate resonating though so I'd put a lot more emphasis on finding a good sounding piece of steel than on the speaker.
Also, check out the comments from Bob on the "how-to-make-a-plate-reverb" thread in the description (sorry youtube won't let me link directly to it)
@bsidewreckchords Hey, Sorry I forgot to reply. Thanks so much for the dimensions!! I'll look forward to trying this as soon as I have the time. Also thanks for the thread! -Ian
Thank you! I have thanked a long time I would like to have one - I don't really know why because I haven't tested any. Anyway I think plate reverb is best way mix some noises together. Maybe some day I have one.
@bsidewreckchords yup I saw the details on your website! thanks... and don't worry about your feet, they look good and relaxing, just like the verb! :)
@taigkyo Cheers! I learnt everything I know about putting things in tins (and lots of other stuff) from this guy: artyone.blogtown.co.nz/early-stuff/ who puts amazing things in tins.
Cheers antijes07 & LeviMan2001, the piezos are superglued onto the plate. I tried a few types of glue and double sided tape and the thinner, less viscous superglue worked best - a closer connection to the plate I figure.
Check the links in the description for the full details.

.....MAN! That's a very nice sounding reverb on it's own. I don't even want to compare it to a real EMT.
