@FusionMx2 yup but the greatest ever is jordan cmon men even kobe said it even lebron... they know it deep inside their will be no next jordan maybe larry bird status but JORDAN IS THE GOAT
Damn @jiajen88 said it perfectly. MJ is and probably always will be the G.O.A.T of basketball. But watching both closely, you can see that Kobe has a better skillset and more creative with the basketball. He makes impossible shot after impossible shot. At first I thought it was luck but after 15 years I'm starting to change my mind. MJ was much quicker and had more athletic ability. He could create enough space for an easy jumper so he didnt need Kobe's insane shots. Relax guys, MJ is still GOAT
@jimmychuang MJ's "smarter" shot selection is a bloody myth perpetrated by people who don't understand what an average is.
What nba stat noobs do for shooting is they look at the FG%. Fortunately for MJ, the FG % includes 3 pointers, which he seldom took, save for rare occasions. Kobe shoots 2.5x more threes than MJ, otherwise his FG % would be around 48% for his carreer as well. MJ w/o the 3 included? 51%~ Better but crazy better for a guy that plays inside with no bigs? Not really.
There's eFG% shows the true shooting ability. Kobe is only a little above MJ. But MJ scored more points, with more stable stat. If MJ low down his ppg to 27, his FG% will certainly become much higher.
1 point can decide who is the champion man, you know that.
@jimmychuang Has everything to do with bigs... In the triangle, as with any other offense, you don't crowd the post when you have a big - this logic should be a given should it not? We are talking basketball right?
Kobe's entire career centers around an offense that has a 7ft center or two inside. The easy points in the low post are not there for him, they are there for Shaq/Bynum/Gasol. Rare are the plays with an open lane inside when you got the defense crowding the post vs. LA.
@jimmychuang I'm just saying, it should be obvious to anyone that KB is a more skilled player. But to your point, MJ, a little like LBJ, doesn't need technique when he is so physically gifted. Giant hands and speed/leaping ability/strength and agility often trumps all manner of skill. LBJ is like a C student at skill but A+ in physique and look how far that takes you.
Homie can barely dribblle and still drops monster stats. MJ likely is the more effective scorer on any given night, playoffs gg.

This audio is only 10 % of the whole Phil Jackson statement. Phil said MJ has physical advantages that are irreplacable. He was quicker, stronger and smarter than Kobe. Kobe is a bit better jumpshooter but MJ was a much better inside player. He also mentioned their FG%.

@jiajen88 I hate to play this card but...defenses are just softer, especially after 2005 when handcheck was made illegal...again hate to play that card. It's just like if you were to play in a high school varsity game vs a middle school rec league. Of course you can showboat a little more in the middle school rec league because spots just stay open a little longer and the defensive pressure is not as tough. @jiajen88 How many arguments with MJ homer's have you gotten into for this comment in the last month?
My god, saying MJ isn't the greatest at every single little thing in basketball is blasphemy. He's the best at all things and all positions. It's just because of the rule changes that makes modern players seem like they can come close. Conspiracy to make more MJ's so they can sell more jerseys man.
MJ is like an X-man, a freak genetic mutant never to be reproduced or rivaled by humans! xD
@thiennguyenX2 He isn't better in all positions? Magic was way more better at PG and even Center against Moses Malone. Jordan was selfish and he was a great player but by him selling so much clothes and shoes for the NBA when he was with Nike everyone says he is the greatest but he isn't.
@jiajen88 lol Alot more athleticism, played with the Handcheck so finished around the basket literally 10x better, his mid range jumper put's Kobe's to shame but with all that said...Kobe's skill set is just ridiculous
@jiajen88 and has has heart of a champion.. its not about skills all the time that's why he makes those winning clutch shots.. compare it to kobe's clutch moments.. compare jordan's finals to kobe.. kobe relied on he's teammate more
@420chuck1 without a doubt.. both are equal champions to me but i think jordan was smarter in that he used/made his teammates better and of course he played below the free throw line, which made his game more efficient.. offensive efficiency and defense wins games
I think Jordan is the better player, but kobe has more skill on the court. MJ just had that extra level that no other athlete has ever had. I love both players and I would say MJ is the greatest player of all time with Kobe being a close second
@hattrick116 ..3 after 3 & Kobes only perfected the fadeaway, clearly a better shooting touch, he has his technical game down & on top of that he's just as good a closer. But when it comes to stats
@hattrick116 well it's not Kobes fault that MJ played against opponents that couldn't figure out how he kept going inside & laying it up on them on every other play. No D son. Kobes been facing better defenders & the zone his whole career it makes it tougher & handchecking wouldn't effect Kobe 1 bit. What puts him over the top is when he has games like 62 in 3 & 81 & 65 & 61. That's what I mean when I say SKILL. It's just much harder for MJ to put up numbers like this bcuz he can't hit 3 after
@jkang24 Are your fucking serious? Scoring during MJ time was so much damn harder. Refs let the players play MUCH MORE physical defense back in the 90's. Every time kobe gets hand checked and the refs don't see it he bitches like a lil girl about it. MJ didn't get all the free throws that the refs gave kobe. How often do you see Kobe get double teamed during the season??? Not near as much as MJ and if you disagree you clearly aren't old enough to remember NBA back in the 90's.
skill means on the court and on the court kobe is better and has more moves mjs athleticism just made his moves look unreal but moves used to look simular in his prime hangin in the air like elgin baylor also
BY FUCKING FAR? NOT even close Jordan>Kobe. Jordan led Kobe in nearly EVERY statistical category throughout his career, and when Jordan was like 40 and Kobe was 22-23 he outscored him when they were both on the court. Just sad, you Kobe dickriders
Not. Even. close. As I said before Jordan outscored Kobe at 40 years old. 40 years old. That means that he wasn't relying on physical ability, he was relying on his skill.
@hattrick116 IM NOT TALKIN ABOUT WHOS BETTER IM TALKIN ABOUT WHO IS MORE SKILLED AND KOBE IS MORE SKILLED BY FAR JORDAN MAYBE THE OVERALL BETTER PLAYER CUS OF HIS DEFENSE IS MORE CONSISTENT BUT SKILLS KOBE IS BETTER
As crazy as Phil's comment sounds, in a way he might be right. I think Kobe might slightly be a more skilled "Basketball" player than MJ was, kobe has been a student and advid follower of the game since he was what, like 5 years old or something. Remember MJ was a Baseball player first, he developed his game in a much later stage in his life than Kobe did. Now as far as pure raw talent, instincts and the will to win, Mj is clearly superior and far more dominant on the big(FINALS)stage, the GOAT.
ha, honestly, i hate that jordan homers are flipping out and are like OMG, THATS BS, we know mj is better, phil is being nice, BLAH BLAH BLAH. 1. its phil jackson-the most outspoken personality the nba has seen over the past 20 years, he has called kobe out multiple times, called players out, he has no reason to BS. Just f;'ing give kobe his credit. Michael is probably better overall, but they are at different eras so just stop making excuses and trying to belittle kobe.
@mmmaaarrrjjjooo He said skill not greatness. We all know MJ is better. But Kobe is more skilled. Does that mean he is better? Nope not even. That's all he is saying.
Michael was the only one at his level, he was the pioneer, that is why he is a legend and his brand made him a step above every other guy out there...until KOBE arrived. First the rule changing after Micheal... and then you see other player being equally good as KOBE(Carmelo, Wade, Lebron) if not , tell me who was as good as jordan when he was at his prime???
NOBODY has ever been, nor will ever be a better basketball player than Michael Jordan. ALL you have to do to know this is re-watch footage from his games. I'm still amazed at watching his games I saw 15 years ago.
"mj gives his 100% in every game" isiah thomas said and that is true! mj has better defensive skills than kobe.. im not a fan of mj and kobe but for me mj was the best!
they are saying kobe is more skilled but jordan is the greatest.I always thought jordan was more skilled but im 100% sure hes better. when u take in to consideration of the rule changes time periods and etc jordan was beter.without numbers( which jordan has better) id rather jordan on my team because of his agressiveness his tenacity and will to win! not to mention his basketball iq is untouched!. they are saying kobe is more skilled but mj was the better overall player.
ok well i believe wat phil meant was that kobe uses his brain more to play...he got voted best iq on court.......and mj was "the best" but he was jus naturally skilled.....he didnt have to think about his next move to score.....kobe = michael jordan
@illinful MJ has a better iq than kobe dude mj would never take the shots kobe did and sometimes does. he would if forced but not as regular as kobe does. and for those who don't know ball fg% is decieving ray allen is a way better shooter than jordan but fg% wise he isn't its the kind of shots u take not how pure your stroke is.
where was kobe against dallas this year?? all his numbers dropped, kobe played HORRIBLE. he played horrible against boston last year 2, and had shaq for 3 of his championships. more clutch than michael? plz. u have no rite to a baskeball opinion saying that kind of nonsense. kobe's career shooting percentage in the finals is 41%. michaels is above 50. kobe's stats stay around the same in the playoffs. all of mikes go up. but with a name like kobeisraw, im guessing u dont care about the facts
@BigTimePride MJ is a better overall player lol not much tho but kobe is more skilled basketball ppl know that. mj had abetter bball iq than kobe does and its better by a bit kobe takes stupid shots and when mj was in his prime he had great teams kobe in his prime had kwame brown luke walton and smush parker the yr he scored 81 and the next yr he would have killed anyone in the finals i mean crazy numbers a lot of that stat stuff for kobe is circumstantial. no shaq equals 10 scoring titles.
@peponation I could care less comparing two players at the age of 21. I'm comparing them both at their best. As for letting go of the past, the video above is comparing MJ & Kobe and I'm simply responding to the video. Furthermore, time has surpassed MJ but I guarantee Kobe hasn't. I don't care if he ends up with 10 titles, he's not the player MJ was. It takes a great team to win titles but MJ is a better individual player. Btw... I don''t like either of them so my opinion shows no favoritism.
@KingNike316 I'm not kidding man. Believe me, I hated Jordan but he was really that good. Kobe's a great player too, but MJ was on a different level. Jordan shot 6% higher for his career than Kobe and that's a huge difference. Not to mention he averaged more rebounds, assists etc...MJ was just better. When it come to the playoffs (and big games), MJ is way ahead of Kobe. Just one example....you would never see MJ shoot 6 for 24 in game 7 of the Finals.
@BigTimePride lol, jordan has shot WORSE 5-26 in the conference finals. Please dont have short term memory...ha, honestly, i hate that jordan homers are flipping out and are like OMG, THATS BS, we know mj is better, phil is being nice, BLAH BLAH BLAH. 1. its phil jackson-the most outspoken personality the nba has seen over the past 20 years, he has called kobe out multiple times, called players out, he has no reason to BS. Just f;'ing give kobe his credit.
@ihofaerefa Reading comprehension 101. If you read my comment again, you will notice I said "Kobe is a great player too". I also said "you would never see MJ shoot 6-24 in game 7 of the Finals". So, to dismiss your comment, I did give Kobe his credit and never said anything about Conference Finals.
@ihofaerefa it's 9/26 against Utah and 5/19 against Seattle. Note: Jordan is around 33 to 35 years old at this point and never got swept too. lol. He was guarded by no other than the glove Gary Payton in his prime. Kobe??? Jason Kidd? Shawn Marion?? oldies but goodies? Bryant should have done better. 37% shooting? against only one game for jordan? and you celebrate? how pathetic kobetards are. i can't wait this season to end... and let's see how good this kobe moron is.
And his most "skilled" performance was that 6-24 shooting display against Boston in game 7 of the NBA Finals. Talk about coming through in the clutch (sarcasim intended). If Larry Bird was playing in that game 7 for the Celtics, I guarantee Boston would've walked out of there as champions.
Notice how much Phil was struggling answering this question.. Almost like he's forced to say it this way, because he was coaching at the time.. "Um.............. He does..... um..... he.....
This debate is irrelevant even to Kobe himself, who's admitted Jordan is better. Bryant is less interested in teh who's better debate, and more interested in leaving his own legacy. Michael dominated the greatest players from the greatest historically successful franchises. Bryant's 82 point performance was against a weak Toronto team, and yet no one seems to get that, Jordan scored 63 against a legendary Boston dynasty. NO COMPARISON.
@PunkUAre Screw You!!! I'm no narcotic you damn prick. Only because me and other people may like Michael more you accuse us of using drugs. I know the crack joke is a way of telling you are blind in the USA. Well the joke was lame. I am only saying be careful what you say or write it makes you a better person. Obviously you wanna be the complete opposite. I hope you take this as an advice. Be a grown up and don't reply!!!!!
@CHITOWN1987 by skills phil most likely means like ballhandling, and footwork and different ways of scoring, kobe does have more basketball skilld while MJ was a tad bit more athletic
@DZG its cause the game has evolved. if players from 30-40 years ago were playing today, they'd be much different players. u have to look at the talent of the past with a different microscope. theres at least 10 players in league history i'd rather take than kobe, and possibly more. michael is the best of all time, the numbers and awards don't lie
Quit the argument here, there is a new Facebook page called "LakerFans vs LakerHaters Showdown" search for it and talk all the trash you want to Laker fans, post anti Laker post on there or for the Lakers fans come and defend your team and argue with the Laker Haters
phil said he is more skilled which i disagree with so its fine to have different opinions but all the skills in da world mean nothin its about production which can be measured and mj beats kobe in every category with more effiency..for any1 who is using this "skill" argument to say he is better or on the same level id ask where do u rank dirk at cuz he has the most bball skills of any big man in history but that doesnt mean nothin he doesnt belong in da convo of the best big men in history
@CHITOWN1987 why doesn't dirk belong in the convo? I would put him at top 15 power forwards of all time...
phil coached the two so his statement holds a lot more validity and basketball prowess than what you say. no one is saying kobe is necessarily better than jordan, just more SKILLED. Jordan had freakishly big hands, long arms, and hops like no other...Kobe doesn't have that. Jordan played in an era with no athletic enough guards to check him and Kobe plays in an era where more fouls are cal
@dreameratw1 der is a big difference between being mentioned among da greatest big men & just saying a player is top 15 pf of alltime & i meant all big men not just pf's.. my point is the most skilled big man in dirk who has shot 90% ft, 40% 3pt, 50% fg isnt anywhere near a player like shaq who cant shoot ft's and cant shoot anything past 8 ft cuz at da end of the day all dat counts is putting the ball in the hole so "skills" mean nothing without the production 2 bak it up...so 2 get back (cont)
(cont) 2 my point people can argue kobe has better "skills" which i dont agree wit but at da end of da day mj averaged 5 more ppg & at 5% higher than kobe so i dont understand how people can say he is more skilled when mj scores more points & takes less shots to do it...so what is skill...is it just everything he does before hand all the unneccsary stuff before he takes a shot that statistically says he will miss more times than he will make oppose 2 mj who shot 51% for his career 4 da bulls
These guys need to get off MJ's dick. He's a legend thats why these people are too afraid to say Kobe is better, its because he played along time ago which makes him more great.
@L3g3ndkill4 not true. im 21 and i know michael was the better player. u gotta look at the numbers, take players and coaches commentary and opinions into consideration, and look at the the differences in the games (rule changes). today's game is soft, reffed by a bunch of pussies who call techs and flagrants at every oppurtunity and gay ass fouls everywhere. the "get off his dick" arguement is getting so damn old. that doesnt take anything from kobe, kobe is one of the best to ever play
@q8shiaassassin 70% of FANS say Jordan is better?? so you base your opinion off of what other FANS say and not a guy whose coached both players saw them every day in practice and in game situations? Yeah dude makes a lot of sense...
y the hell r u guys making fun of kobe and phil just cuz phil says tat kobe is more skilled? i agree with phil .... but mj is better overall .... stop being little kids and stop acting like u can change wut phil jackson said .... grow up
Imagine you're the top player of a team. It's leader, it's go-to guy, not just on the court. And your peer says one of his previous players on another team is better.
Phil's emphasized through action the psychological importance of coaching. His not going to say something that could possibly damage a player. If he did, it would be the WRONG way to motivate someone.
Phil saying Kobe is more skilled than Jordan ..Phil & kobe why is it the lakers takes 4-0 againts dallas? tsktsk ..Like was kobe sez ,he wantz t0 have 7 nd more champions ..CAN HE?
Kobe is in no way MORE SKILLED THAN JORDAN! He will never be and he will never be considered greatest of all time... Jordan is the best player to ever live!! (second comes Dwyane Wade)
@gabyups I agree with you that Kobe does not compare to Jordan. However I disagree with you on Wade. He gets away with frequent traveling (even more than Lebron) to the point I want to throw something at the TV. Wade benefits from the rules changes with no handchecking and no defensive three seconds. Wade is an OVERRATED ball handler who frequently shuffles his feet and gets to the rim from the three point line to the rim taking only ONE dribble! That's traveling ...
Phil also said during the Lakers' preseason in 2007 that under today's rules Michael Jordan would average 45 points a game. IN Jordan's era hand checking (two-handed pushing) was legal. Today it's a foul. In Jordan's era 7-footers could camp in the lane and block shots. Today there is defensive three seconds.
Kobe should be more skilled than MJ because Kobe is a good copy cat and when you copy you have to repeat it over and over many times which will force you to perfect it
Mj on the other hand done moves in the moment. They weren't pre programmed he freaked people and created shit right there on the spot and didn't think nothing of the move afterwards.
MJ treated moves like a shakable polaroid he took the picture and threw away the camera
Kobe kept MJ's pics and studied them with all he had.
this was taken out of context. phil released a letter saying kobe is no where near mj. it said theirs one thing to play like MJ and other thing is to be MJ. kobe passed MJ on missed shots but no where near his made shots LOL. kobe is just clearly a volume shooter. I love stupid people, i make a shit load of money off of stupid people. the media makes stupid people believe anything. this world needs stupid people to do the hard work for the leaders. ima get a 458 ferrari, its on stupid ppl
@BMWM5gpower23 yeah right i need proof! when, and where did phil release a letter fuckin liar, its ok that the zen master himself said that kobe is more skilled get over it or choke on a dick!
@olay1196 ima fuckin lair LOL look it up fuck face. thats whats wrong with laker fans u only see and hear the media Bullshit. u only see how many points kobe had not how many shots he jacked up to get those points.
@BMWM5gpower23 You are right about the average NBA fan (including Laker fans) that only see the guy with the ball when watching a game. Last year when Ron Artest was couldn't hit a 3 to save his life a lot of Laker fans calling radio station saying they shouldn't have let Ariza go. They didn't see the part of the game when Ron Ron didn't have the ball and was making the game a living hell for Durant. Bball is more than just playing with the ball, have to do the little things to win.
Kobe, LeBron, Wade... = Superstar, Jordan = Legend.. if you wanna compare, compare those in the same category pls moron

MJ was better, period.
MJ can do all Kobe's post moves, dribbles, but he seldom did fancy dribble because he had speed.
Kobe has longer range than MJ.
MJ is smarter to make shot decision.
MJ has more moves when drive to basket, he could do many amazing layups.
Well Kobe sometimes show his dribble and spin skills pretty amazing, also his long range is amazing.
But I don't care how fancy u r MJ still a better scorer,

@jiajen88 lol Alot more athleticism, played with the Handcheck so finished around the basket literally 10x better, his mid range jumper put's Kobe's to shame but with all that said...Kobe's skill set is just ridiculous
goinham25 2 months ago
@jiajen88 and has has heart of a champion.. its not about skills all the time that's why he makes those winning clutch shots.. compare it to kobe's clutch moments.. compare jordan's finals to kobe.. kobe relied on he's teammate more
420chuck1 3 weeks ago
@420chuck1 without a doubt.. both are equal champions to me but i think jordan was smarter in that he used/made his teammates better and of course he played below the free throw line, which made his game more efficient.. offensive efficiency and defense wins games
jiajen88 3 weeks ago
They cut the audio when Phil begins to contradict his statement. The author is a Kobe fanboy.
BENKATOK 5 months ago
I think Jordan is the better player, but kobe has more skill on the court. MJ just had that extra level that no other athlete has ever had. I love both players and I would say MJ is the greatest player of all time with Kobe being a close second

wornoutshoes11 5 months ago
@hattrick116 ..3 after 3 & Kobes only perfected the fadeaway, clearly a better shooting touch, he has his technical game down & on top of that he's just as good a closer. But when it comes to stats
jkang24 5 months ago
@hattrick116 well it's not Kobes fault that MJ played against opponents that couldn't figure out how he kept going inside & laying it up on them on every other play. No D son. Kobes been facing better defenders & the zone his whole career it makes it tougher & handchecking wouldn't effect Kobe 1 bit. What puts him over the top is when he has games like 62 in 3 & 81 & 65 & 61. That's what I mean when I say SKILL. It's just much harder for MJ to put up numbers like this bcuz he can't hit 3 after
jkang24 5 months ago
@jkang24 Are your fucking serious? Scoring during MJ time was so much damn harder. Refs let the players play MUCH MORE physical defense back in the 90's. Every time kobe gets hand checked and the refs don't see it he bitches like a lil girl about it. MJ didn't get all the free throws that the refs gave kobe. How often do you see Kobe get double teamed during the season??? Not near as much as MJ and if you disagree you clearly aren't old enough to remember NBA back in the 90's.
b20jdmintegra 5 months ago
@jkang24
Then explain to me why phil said MJ would AVERAGE 45ppg in todays era.
Larry brown, Tex winter..and several others said MJ would dominate in this era. Hell...what was mjs ppg with the wizards.
And you think an MJ 20 years younger wouldnt be able to add 5 more shots a game to hit 30?
Nice try...

I kinda agree, Kobe is more skilled than MJ
Jordan's IQ trumps kobe's though. IQ > skill IMO.
Kobe's the better dribbler, but MJ had fewer turnovers.
Kobe's the better shooter, but his shot selection is questionable at times.
Kobe forces some of his hots, MJ creates better separation using screens thus the easy J.
I'll take MJ's IQ and bball fundamentals over kobe's skill.
NOTE: kobe's got a skyhigh bball IQ though it pales in comparison to MJ's.

Best part of the video: Phil's throat clearing. He KNEW he was going to make a momentous statement.
1987Viking 6 months ago 2
As crazy as Phil's comment sounds, in a way he might be right. I think Kobe might slightly be a more skilled "Basketball" player than MJ was, kobe has been a student and advid follower of the game since he was what, like 5 years old or something. Remember MJ was a Baseball player first, he developed his game in a much later stage in his life than Kobe did. Now as far as pure raw talent, instincts and the will to win, Mj is clearly superior and far more dominant on the big(FINALS)stage, the GOAT.
delfra70 6 months ago
ha, honestly, i hate that jordan homers are flipping out and are like OMG, THATS BS, we know mj is better, phil is being nice, BLAH BLAH BLAH. 1. its phil jackson-the most outspoken personality the nba has seen over the past 20 years, he has called kobe out multiple times, called players out, he has no reason to BS. Just f;'ing give kobe his credit. Michael is probably better overall, but they are at different eras so just stop making excuses and trying to belittle kobe.

I'm still amazed at watching his games I saw 15 years ago.

peponation 7 months ago
@peponation I could care less comparing two players at the age of 21. I'm comparing them both at their best. As for letting go of the past, the video above is comparing MJ & Kobe and I'm simply responding to the video. Furthermore, time has surpassed MJ but I guarantee Kobe hasn't. I don't care if he ends up with 10 titles, he's not the player MJ was. It takes a great team to win titles but MJ is a better individual player. Btw... I don''t like either of them so my opinion shows no favoritism.
BigTimePride 7 months ago

KingNike316 6 months ago
@KingNike316 On defense you can compare them but MJ was much better on the offensive end.

@BigTimePride You have to be kidding. 81 @ the apple 2 scoring titles are you serious? 105 or more 40+ games really now?
KingNike316 6 months ago
@KingNike316 I'm not kidding man. Believe me, I hated Jordan but he was really that good. Kobe's a great player too, but MJ was on a different level. Jordan shot 6% higher for his career than Kobe and that's a huge difference. Not to mention he averaged more rebounds, assists etc...MJ was just better. When it come to the playoffs (and big games), MJ is way ahead of Kobe. Just one example....you would never see MJ shoot 6 for 24 in game 7 of the Finals.
BigTimePride 6 months ago
@BigTimePride lol, jordan has shot WORSE 5-26 in the conference finals.
BigTimePride 6 months ago
@ihofaerefa it's 9/26 against Utah and 5/19 against Seattle. Note: Jordan is around 33 to 35 years old at this point and never got swept too. lol. He was guarded by no other than the glove Gary Payton in his prime. Kobe??? Jason Kidd? Shawn Marion?? oldies but goodies? Bryant should have done better. 37% shooting? against only one game for jordan? and you celebrate? how pathetic kobetards are. i can't wait this season to end... and let's see how good this kobe moron is.

NO COMPARISON.

rayneman50 9 months ago
phil said he is more skilled which i disagree with so its fine to have different opinions but all the skills in da world mean nothin its about production which can be measured and mj beats kobe in every category with more effiency..for any1 who is using this "skill" argument to say he is better or on the same level id ask where do u rank dirk at cuz he has the most bball skills of any big man in history but that doesnt mean nothin he doesnt belong in da convo of the best big men in history
CHITOWN1987 9 months ago
@CHITOWN1987 why doesn't dirk belong in the convo? I would put him at top 15 power forwards of all time...
phil coached the two so his statement holds a lot more validity and basketball prowess than what you say. no one is saying kobe is necessarily better than jordan, just more SKILLED. Jordan had freakishly big hands, long arms, and hops like no other...Kobe doesn't have that. Jordan played in an era with no athletic enough guards to check him and Kobe plays in an era where more fouls are cal
dreameratw1 9 months ago
@dreameratw1 der is a big difference between being mentioned among da greatest big men & just saying a player is top 15 pf of alltime & i meant all big men not just pf's.. my point is the most skilled big man in dirk who has shot 90% ft, 40% 3pt, 50% fg isnt anywhere near a player like shaq who cant shoot ft's and cant shoot anything past 8 ft cuz at da end of the day all dat counts is putting the ball in the hole so "skills" mean nothing without the production 2 bak it up...so 2 get back (cont)
CHITOWN1987 9 months ago
(cont) 2 my point people can argue kobe has better "skills" which i dont agree wit but at da end of da day mj averaged 5 more ppg & at 5% higher than kobe so i dont understand how people can say he is more skilled when mj scores more points & takes less shots to do it...so what is skill...is it just everything he does before hand all the unneccsary stuff before he takes a shot that statistically says he will miss more times than he will make oppose 2 mj who shot 51% for his career 4 da bulls
CHITOWN1987 9 months ago

Imagine you're the top player of a team. It's leader, it's go-to guy, not just on the court. And your peer says one of his previous players on another team is better.
Phil's emphasized through action the psychological importance of coaching. His not going to say something that could possibly damage a player. If he did, it would be the WRONG way to motivate someone.

Kobe is in no way MORE SKILLED THAN JORDAN! He will never be and he will never be considered greatest of all time... Jordan is the best player to ever live!! (second comes Dwyane Wade)
gabyups 10 months ago
@gabyups I agree with you that Kobe does not compare to Jordan. However I disagree with you on Wade. He gets away with frequent traveling (even more than Lebron) to the point I want to throw something at the TV. Wade benefits from the rules changes with no handchecking and no defensive three seconds. Wade is an OVERRATED ball handler who frequently shuffles his feet and gets to the rim from the three point line to the rim taking only ONE dribble! That's traveling ...
Bullsfan2008DR 10 months ago
Phil also said during the Lakers' preseason in 2007 that under today's rules Michael Jordan would average 45 points a game. IN Jordan's era hand checking (two-handed pushing) was legal. Today it's a foul. In Jordan's era 7-footers could camp in the lane and block shots. Today there is defensive three seconds.
Bullsfan2008DR 10 months ago
Kobe should be more skilled than MJ because Kobe is a good copy cat and when you copy you have to repeat it over and over many times which will force you to perfect it
Mj on the other hand done moves in the moment. They weren't pre programmed he freaked people and created shit right there on the spot and didn't think nothing of the move afterwards.
MJ treated moves like a shakable polaroid he took the picture and threw away the camera
Kobe kept MJ's pics and studied them with all he had.
