It's always been in the midst of some revolution or recovering from some disaster or another. It has never had a devlp'd middle class. As the French Classical Liberals pointed out in the early 1800s, liberty is the product of a mature culture. I don't think Mexico (or much of the world, unfortunately) is there yet.

No middle class in Mexico? The statistics show that there are 30 millon mexicans living by USA middle class standards. Other 20 million live above poverty line, and 50 million are poor. Iliteracy in Mexico is less than 7%, quality of education is the problem.

The last revolution in Mexico occurred a century ago, in 1910.

The drug problem is USA fault, caused by filthy rock´n roll culture, yuppies, spoiled brats, college fraternities, Hollywood, and USA Government corruption.

Your numbers are exaggerated, there are only 10 million non-documented mexican migrants in USA. About a third of them did not live below poverty line in Mexico, they just want to earn more money. Mexico had already controlled its population growth, so the pressure to immigrate is subsiding. Besides the bigot measures the USA can: Stop drug consumption, kill the drug traffickers as if they were al-kaedans in the USA and abroad, and be fair in international commerce.

Living up here in New England, the colleges are all very Liberal. I have repeatedly defended my Southern kin from allegations of "Stupidity", "Ignorance" or "Backwardness" from both fellow students and teachers who have never been South of Pennsylvania. It is, of course, frustrating to turn around and meet the feeling that many Southerners would consider me "Cultureless Godless Busy Body" merely due to my being a Yankee. Regardless, I support and sympathize with my Southron brothers' cause.

we're from Alabama, and a couple years ago moved to CA- all I can say is I felt as if there were a big sign sayin "Welcome to Mexico"- there is so many problems with illegal immigrants especially from what I can tell in Southern CA and I'm so sick of it! Very good; and one thing I'd like to mention is that my parents moved to Central America, to work in the Panama Canal Zone. I was born there and grew up there, with only seeing the U.S. in the summertime. My parents taught me these things of our heritage and customs while living in a foreign country. So one does not have to live in Dixie in order to keep the customs and teach their children. We're all over the place!

I feel it important to convey the message of the values we used to see every day. Its not to say that there aren't pockets where these vaules are practiced. I remember in not so long ago, south houston's street signs were in an asian language and english. Engish may very well be gone now? Here in Arkansas, when they dedicated the Clinton library, they changed a streets name near the airport from Confederate Blvd to Beal st or something so as to be politicaly correct for the arriving political figures.
