It's not snot...it's not :) but if your have the flu, then you usual have snot in your nose :) but it does sound like snot when us idiots say itsnot :) no offense, just kidding a little :)
@orlyorlywtf sounds pretty good to me ,maybe not perfect, say somethin good or shut up,you just jealous, let him play you idiots, sounds cool to me, good distortion,an good playin in some parts,im so glad that jesus set me free, say somethin good,,aint none of us perfect yet,,,not bad,,
Check out Martys13's channel (probably shows up in the 'related videos' on this page) and you'll hear how wonderful this amp can sound, clean or dirty. As usual, it's all how you play.
The Classic 30s are nice but they have no clean headroom. The clean channel doesn't just breakup halfway, it's full on overdrive. Sounds better than the overdrive channel at high volumes (overdrive at high volumes is too saturated) but the amp is nice for practice at home, with your band and maybe some small club gigs.
Do you have any idea how stupid that sounds? Name one good rock band that has no songs with a clean guitar in them- Oh, wait... All rock bands have songs with clean tones in them!
my peavey classic 50 sounds amazing at rock with my gibson les paul standard with seymour duncan pickups. but that 1 in the video doesnt sound as it at all
true, but then again the tone is a little too warm and spongy for 'rock' (as opposed to rock n roll--two different styles there)but sure theres ways to make any amp adaptable to anything.
I own a Classic 30 too. Same style as this one. I bought it in the early 90's. I replaced the stock tubes with NOS GE and RCA tubes, and swapped out the stock speaker for a Celestion Vintage 30. That made a real difference in tone.
I never did like the boost circuit in the amp.
It takes to pedals really well. I use a Verbzilla reverb pedal as the built in reverb sucked. Also a vintaqe TS-9 really makes this amp wake up. Large enough for small gigs if you hook it up to a 4x12 cab.
Peavey Redesigned the amp a little while ago - the newer ones have the badge on the tweed and it "scoops" down over the grille cloth as opposed to these older ones from the 90's - truth be told the 90's ones sounded noticeably better - this isn't a good example, though - poor sound quality on the recording
The newer ones have blue marvel speakers in which, for me are terrible, but the older ones have two different model speakers in. Curious to which ones you've got.
Hey man, I just got a Classic 30 today with Groove Tubes and JJs and it sounds amazing, and I really liked the tone you get in around 1:50 mins into your video: what pedal is it? And what guitar are you using? Because I'm using a SRV Strat
If you are being mic'd, otherwise, no. I've used it in a church of that size without micing it, but it gets almost lost in garage jam sessions (big volume difference between the two lol). If you're micing it, go for it.
hi there..I'n on UG too. I was checking some vids about this amp because someone in the which amp thread referred me to it..and honestly, it sounds AMAZING.I think i'm going to try it out some day, but I got a couple questions..--wont fit in one comment--
Is it rue that it heats up a lot? have you had any technichal difficulties? did you do any modding to it? I'm thinking about using it for all kinds of rock, and I really like it's tone for blues..but I was thinking that maybe at some point i would like more distortion..how would this sound with a distortion pedal?
Yes, Classic 30's get incredibly hot. I've started using a little mini-fan behind mine just to be safe.
The amp sounds good with a distortion pedal. I used to use it with a Digitech Hot Rod and I got a really great tone. It's fun to combine the effects of pedals with the built in overdrive on the amp itself.
Great GnR Sweet Child o Mine intro, though you played some nots wrong, the sound is almost identical the real thing considering that you amp is a little bit mess up in the time you took this video.
I have a Peavey classic 50 and i was considering buying ME-50, and i think this video was the final sign for me to buy it. :)
of and greg, the od at the beginning is a marshall guvnor from my boss me-50. then later its a tubescreamer from the me-50. although i had the variation switch on so it wa son "modern OD" which im guessing is most likely the ts-9
just to let everyone know...this amp a snot working properly when i made this video. i was just trying to get a general idea of it for someone on ultimate-guitar. i should be getting it fixed anytime now, but seeing as i have no money it might take a little while. i thought it was the tubes so i bought a set of JJ's, but they didnt fix it. my neighbor knows an amp tech though, so it should be working fine soon. then i will make a proper video of the amp.
I've never heard of a recall on this amp. It's been made pretty much the same since the early 90's and it's still made in USA.
All tube amps get hot. I throw a small 7" fan behind mine when I play. Not because overheating but so that the tubes last longer. I've had my Classic 20 since 94 with only 1 set of tubes changed and a change out on a preamp tube recently. My Classic 30 is awesome. In fact it's probably one of the best deals out there for the price. Worth twice as much.
oh ok. i dont actually know of the recall. but i've seen a few people on youtube saying they recalled a batch of them because the logo and the overheating badly. i'm not sure, but thanks for the info. i might be getting one so ill get a fan as well. cheers.
dilligaf, Your logo comment tips me off. This wasn't a recall but a redesign. Hartley got pissed because everyone was taking his Fred Flintstone logo off the tweeds and low and behold they looked like a Fender. But I've got to say that crappy logo looks pretty decent on the new cabinet design, especially the latest ones with the silver grill cloth. Don't tell Harley but it looks like a Fender. Awesome amp but get yourself a Tom's Tube tamer to keep the tubes from rattling. Ebay $20.00
um...are you angry at me for saying i heard there was a recall on these amps?? that's what i heard alright. if you had a problem with my comment you need to loosen up or something. thats what i heard, and i was telling people that was what i heard
Because I set the record straight you assume I am angry? There is not one angry word in my reply, only accurate information. You heard wrong. That is how rumors start. You said you might be getting one and I offered added info and advise. Why are you on here? Why are you seeking information? What is wrong with you? Apology accepted.
ok. firstly, i hate people who have youtube fights so im going to make sure neither of us have one. and yes it most likely means pissed off in australia and im guessing you arent from australia so it was a misunderstanding. thanks for the info anyway, and peace. and the toilets are just northern and southern hemisphere right???
haha. no i have never tried different tubes for it, but it needs retubing so i may try out some JJ's. if i do ill make another vid. and to me pedals sound good through the amp, maybe im just weird haha. and to lordpt, i believe my settings on my amp were treble-5, middle-10 or 12, bass, 4 or 5. i dont know the exact. basically the treble and bass are pretty much in the middle and i have tons of mids. and back to retchedspawn again, thanks for the compliments :)
The Peavey logo is due for a redesign anyways. Looks like Fred Flinstone/Barney Rubble. I heard that putting JJ tubes improves the Classic. Any experience out there with JJs? Nice zep riffs and phasing throughout. The Classic 30 does not "like" distortion pedals, but if you put a Tubescreamer or facsimile (HotTubes etc) out front - big improvement.

I've never had an over heating problem with mine. But, I did have a wicked feedback and hum problem when using the reverb.
So, I keep it turned all the way down, and bought a Line6 Verbzilla.
I also took the cheesy Peavey logo off the front. And I put a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker in it. With good NOS tubes, it really sounds wonderful.
