  • I have never heard the recorded song before. My mother taught this song to my sister and me when we were little. Then we used to sing it in three part harmony in the car during road trips in betweenb am radio stations. This song is a treasured memory. I just sent this link to my mother, who still loves Dinah Shore.

  • One of my late Mom's favorites.

  • I grew up learning the first verse of this song... never knew there was more to it lol.... thanks for posting:)

  • Vintage Dinah Shore. She was one of the best and most natural at novelty songs.

  • dude we sing this at camp!

    best camp song ever!! XD

  • First time I heard it was when my grandpa sung it to me. The way he sung it was better than any other version I've heard because he paused for about one second before he said the other things. For example, "...and told her she had such beatifuuuulllllllllll ... manners" xD man that old man's a legend. Luvvim.

  • Wow! Great song! I just heard it for the first time when my aunts and uncles sang it a family reunion.

  • I Love this Fun Song.

  • This is the song that inspired "Shaving Cream" by Benny Bell in 1973!

  • My mother ( God rest her soul ) used to sing this to me and now I sing it to my children.

  • i love this song, becasue its so random, but really sweet.

  • There once was a farmer who sat on a rock... :D

  • I LOVE this song! My aunt Chrissy told me about when she and her sister were little, and their dad sang it. It was a different verse, "*something* pit, and then he fell itno a bucket of-." They were trying to figure out what the word was (mit, hit, kit, lit, sit, knit, etc.,) and then all of a sudden, Katie (Chrissy's sister) exclaimed "Oh, 'SHIT'!" She was only like six or seven years old! I always laugh my head off when I hear that story. Thanks for posting this song!

  • I'm not gonna complain about finding a Dinah Shore song on a video with Doris day. It's hard to find any of Ms. Shore's great songs on YouTube! Thanks for sharing!!

  • Limeybirds have a version that...

is a bit more daring. Itunes

  • Post it so we all can enjoy.

  • @NOTMARBON Try this for racy in 1936 "SWEET VIOLETS by the Sons of the Pioneers" Fun!

  • Glad to hear someone say they enjoy it, I put this on because of my mom. Its not the type of thing you hear today, its not dirty. This is something you can let your kids listen to.

  • Thank you for posting this! I remember hearing this as a teenager, and it was great to find this to play for MY teens. Fun stuff doesn't have to be blue. Thank you!

  • Hi & thank you for posting this song. My dad used to sing us lots of crazy songs during road trips when we're kids; I learned most of them, but could never get this one down. We lost Dad Nov. 27, '07, and I was happy to see this on here & even happier to hear it again. Thank you--whole bunches.

  • My mother used to sing this to me when I was 7 or 8. I always found it to be so funny. I, of course, didn't at the time expect her to say something that rhymed(something Naughty), but I thought it was funny just the same. A great song to remember her by.
