  • First RUSH tune I learned. Fantastic album still inspiring !! Art in music, almost unheard of in todays music scene !!!!

  • Longevity built into the chords, truth into the lyrics.

  • I love this..have from the start and will always. Here we go............getting older....I'm with ya and this is new

  • The track needs to be listened to in its entirety (preferably late at night). I play it every time I complete a long jounrey or task, especially if I wonder if it a wise one to undertake.

" I thought I would singing, but I'm tired, out of breath".

  • Now to me this is RUSH!!!! Everything From Moving Pictures back to the 1st CD Is Smoken!!

  • great song

  • Caress of Steel is epic

  • One of the best rock tracks ever written..... did The D maybe make the reference to the greatest song in the world... this is it, not Stairway!!! LIsten to the little 'Tenacious D' chord influence right at the very end!

  • Wow. I have not heard 1:12 seconds and my brain is toast by this guitar work. Alex Lifeson is awesome.

  • oh god..epic !

  • My favorite Rush album

  • Caress rocks.

  • I understand that Rush isn't too proud of this album because they were smoking a lot of pot and hash while recording it...but so what? Yes' greatest albums were recorded the same way...same with plenty of other truly classic albums from the 70's. This album is indeed a classic!!!

  • @JimSVoit Absolutely is a classic wait it gets better

  • In my top three Rush albums and quite often holds the number one spot!!

  • Don't know why but whenever I read the classic WWII book "The Great Escape" by Paul Brickhill this song comes to my mind. Great unappreciated song.

  • this guitar solo is just so fucking powerful it can throw locomotives with ease and kick king kongs ass a few rounds.

  • @GRILLBUOY101 Wooo Wooo hooo great comebak

  • @GRILLBUOY101 And climb Mount Everest in 5 minutes :)

  • @ubertrooper6300 yeah man geddy can sprint up that mountain with a lit cig!!

  • By the intro you can tell that Rush has been a great inspiration to alot of bands. The into made me think of Opeth, the only metal band worth listening to.

  • @DennChooch

you dont listen to much metal do ya

  • @Trohrjr1003 i listened to a whole lot, was the metalhead kinda teenager, but grew over it.

  • @DennChooch

"The only metal band worth listening to"

What a ridiculous and ignorant statement.

  • rush forever!!!!

  • if you can take this song and make it a platform for a child's game of throwing stones at one another...your posting is just proof that your opinion is best saved for a Justin Beiber song critique.

  • Gay fucking homo band

  • @PETESEYESBLUE Do you have Downs syndrome?

  • @Peppepoppldoppl I send an apology as when i seen the negative on this band i get upset as I am Canadian and grew up on this music so i will say this pleas if u do not want anyone to scorn u and rant and rave u would get much respect if u could state a reason for disliking this phenom of a band its up to u.I just looked in the mirror and i see normality but if u like i will let u know when the Syndrome starts and when i cant make sense of why it starts so post with respevct and u get bak respec

  • @PETESEYESBLUE English, not Downs syndrome.

  • Oh my god this is absolute crap

  • @Peppepoppldoppl What sort of music do you like then?

  • One of the best unknown songs from the BEST band of the decades!!

  • This is the most Floyd-sounding Rush song ever

  • Geddy's BEST vocals---He wishes he could sing this high now.

  • @1rushboy it is great vocals not sure if its my fav but it is great none the less. my fav is the first album and 2112 then fly by night and hemispheres. all the worlds in the middle somewhere since it has bastille day and anthem live on it .

  • Rush is brilliant and has some brilliant compositons, but Rush is becoming really predictable because they have such progressive rock based songs.

  • Thanks for breaking this up ... the CD treats it as one long song so you can't just snip it and put it on your computer/iPOD. This is one of my favorite Lifeson solos ... simple but fits the song perfectly.

  • God this is my favorite song ever...

  • why isnt anyone here

  • The Fountain of Lamneth, which I find to be 6 distinctly separate songs rather than part of an epic, is much better than The Necromancer on the A side of the album. Also, there are Secret Moslems in the Noisefolk Regime.

  • Great track and a typically soulful solo from Alex.

  • Rush does not hate this album! They are proud of it, and so am I!!!!

  • @acebailey60 Exactly! I have never heard them say they hate it. Geddy said "I think we were pretty high when we made a lot of that record" in the RUSH documentary, but nowhere have I seen the word hate...

  • First song I learned on guitar!

  • nice song.

  • Favorite part of Fountain of Lamneth

  • this song is brilliant like being in a dopey daze floating on a raft in the middle of the calm ocean.i wish this song is so great i just played it like 7 or 8 times in a row surfing the net.

  • this song is brilliant like being in a dopey daze floating on a raft in the middle of the calm ocean.i wish

  • if his voice wasn't like this it just would not be rush you know?? what do you want michel jackson to sing for black sabbath next??it just wouldn't work

  • how is it that this track is omitted from the best of Rush set?

  • @czech698 probably because it's right in the middle of the 20-minute track, and also because Rush pretty much hates this record

  • @wordupassholes Why do they hate it?

  • @wordupassholes No no rush loved this album when every one else hated it.They called it down the tubes tour because they became openers for other bands.they stayed true to themselves and said no you cant tell us what to write or what kind of music we make.thats how 2112 came out and blew everyone away..your welcome...

  • @wordupassholes Well, I wouldn't say that Rush hates the record, but he is right in that it's right in the middle of Fountain of Lamneth. That's probably the one reason why they omitted it.

  • @wordupassholes they don't hate it, but the topics are kind of heavy, and many people just can't get it, but it's an amazing record with extraordinary songs

  • @wordupassholes I heared Neil say he really liked Caress of Steel, even now.

  • @wordupassholes it's not one of their best, but there are a few good songs- this is my fave off of it-----

  • america and britain used to be nautical nations... we were not afraid of challenging the seas, the waves, and the horizon..

today, we are pussies. And controlled by filthy niggers and mexican fucks

  • @BeyondNeptune eat shit and die racist scum!

  • @HeavyMetalCanuck go fuck a nigger, you filthy faggot

  • @BeyondNeptune You Must Have Crashed The Car

  • Amazing how this progressive masterpiece of an album was so unfairly condemned back in the day. I'll never figure it out

  • the sky iz pitching violently. isn't every album by rush a transition album?

the true meaning ov progressive rock.

    thank you .

  • the sky iz pitching violently. isn't every album by rush a transition album?

    thank you .

  • the sky iz pitching violently. love you .thank you!

  • The transition album

  • Rush = Musical orgasm nuff sed

  • HAAHAHAHA SPAMMING MY OWN SHIT LOL IM FAT!1

  • GRIM AND FROSTBITTEN GAY BAR

  • 3 dislikes? sheesh

  • Brings back memories. I used to smoke a big bowl and play that background guitar line for 15 minutes straight...it was hypnotizing.

  • The song is actually called "The Fountain of Lamneth" just in case no one knew.

  • @TheGuitarist6677 Not entirely true...this song is part of...or a "chapter" out of Fountain of Lamneth...but I think the boys also intended each of those songs to also stand alone as individuals, too. JMHO though!!

  • I LOVE THIS ALBUM,RUSH IS WAY TO AWESOME!!!!!

  • @MrMegaFredzeppelin Dude, this rocks!!! Thanks for sharing this great song by RUSH!!!

KEEP THE SPIRIT OF ROCK ALIVE BROTHER!!!

  • Uma das melhores canções do Rush!

  • 3 people are tied to the mast.

  • I was once on a Whale Watch and this song kept echoing in my head. It was then that I realized how evocative of rolling ocean waves the music was. Rush is fantastic, but this song in particular is magical. It’s not only an appropriate Song-of-the-Ocean, it’s also got Alex Lifeson’s most emotive guitar solo EVER; not his most challenging one to play from a technical standpoint, but the one with the most FEEL. Awesome!

  • The drummer Neil is a DR. in music

  • alex's solos are so full of emotion on all of the tunes on caress.

  • I'm dedicating this entire summer to all things RUSH!

  • I love this part of founthan of lamnth

  • Why is one of the tags Gay Bar

  • @BeastmodeFilms Because Rush was formed in a gay bar

  • @BeastmodeFilms

    well played

  • Pryce2112 your thinking of Hemispheres album cover

  • @skinnyb43 no, caress of steel really has a guy whit a triangle in the cover.

  • @skinnyb43 no hes not. the cover of Caress of steel does have a guy with a pyramid. this picture was on another part of the album jacket (as i dont have the original album, i dont know exactly where. its on the back of the CD.) hemispheres has two guys standing on opposite halves of a brain

  • Is that the original cover?? I thought it was the guy and the triangle??

  • 3 never made it to the bridge.

  • Captain Jack Sparrow was never about the Bridge. He just bullshitted about the "Captaincy" part. I don't think Kirk much cared for them, he was always trapsing about other people's planets while Scott or some lay person took over.

  • this cd is cool to listen to when you're hiking or biking by yourself.... or while being tossed about in a ship, lol

  • no, i couldn;t be, geez. just because that drummer wears a crazy hat with odd clockworker cymbals upon them, with an overly extruding brain... nah...shoulder to the wheel 2011 time machine's rapture left me here, stranded yet again in pergatory! ffs

  • I wish they'd pull this one out for a few shows! This played through Alex's modern day rig would sound fantastic. Bacchus plateau would be another good one.. don't think they ever will though :( Shame cause this whole album was awesome!

  • 0:11....totally unneccesary..."COULD YOU BE A SECRET MUSLIM?"....keep it to RUSH MUSIC....not that crap!

  • @glueforall Lol is it really a big deal? you Rush loving hippie motherfucker

  • @Peppepoppldoppl Not a huge fan and certainly not a hippie or a motherfucker. You, on the other hand, seem to love Rush and are in denial. Why are you hanging around on here if you aren't? Just to troll the site and show everyone what a total jackass you are?

  • @glueforall Boneyard Butchers is fucking crap. It's AWFUL.

  • @Peppepoppldoppl this is a comment page for RUSH, not some band i was never in. Go butcher your own bone. Lay the pipe down, and click out of "Backwoods Bestial Bangin"...your mom is callin you..

  • @glueforall Your band is shit.

  • this whole album is so awesome.very under rated ....i remember buying the archives 3 album set with all the lyrics back in the day...i just seen rush in concert boy would it be awesome if they would play this whole album like they did with moving picture

  • Clutch is like post-pubescent Rush. But both are awesome in their own right.

  • ten pesos and a whore from barbados

  • i wish i had a large lump some of money so i could just leave s.a.

  • @twilightzone64 south australia?

  • got the concept..im so high right now

  • Wow! I have not heard this since my older brother bought this album in 75. To put this record on when he wasn't looking and put the head phones on was an eye-opener for a ten year old. Just finished watching Rush Behind The Lighted Stage. I can't figure out why this album didn't sell well. Oh well. Thanks for posting on youtube.

  • @MrUtahagen ya i know it they said the record company didnt get this album i was like why the heck not..this is truely a work of art and not to many bands even come close to rushes worst albums

  • @trenken Too bad I wasn't alive back then... :'(

  • it reminds of fade to black until a woman starts singing

  • @DadsWeird You just want to get insulted, don't you?

  • Whadafuckin great song!!!! I love it

  • Maybe it's been pointed out but the song is actually Noone at the bridge. I don't know if it's a typo but Webster Dictionary (one of them.. several revival versions have been released by other family members). But it's sort of old britanian low germanic for some spirit of the unknown. Sort of a voice or emotional voice that can not be seen. I think it was webster... I may have read it somewhere else. It was like 30 years ago at some older womans house I was hanging out at. I was like 15.

  • That guitar is amazing--low and abrupt

  • This song takes me away after a burn of good bc bud.

  • snort cocaine kill hookers

  • @wordupassholes snort whiskey drink cocaine.

  • @wordupassholes WHAT The fuch

  • THIS TO ME HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF THEIR BEST TUNES!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrMegaFredzeppelin

It has to be the best one overall from the pre '2112' era (though 'Anthem'is right up there too),very well constructed song painting a picture of bleakness and Lifeson's double tracked solo is so perfectly tasteful.

  • pleaaase berlusconi just shut up

  • Why do the tags include "gay bar" ?

  • @Jick769 well why not

If someone was searching for a gay bar video they might find this video instead and go "man aren't I glad I found this song instead of a video about gay bars"

despite the fact that gay bars are the best bars

  • @wordupassholes I...umm...Well...

Yeah, I agree. Anything to inform more people about the awesomeness that is Rush, is ok in my book!

  • @wordupassholes lol i laughed my ass off at that

  • @wordupassholes rotflmfao

  • @wordupassholes if you type rush gay bar it pop right up

  • @MrTarantulalover WTF does RUSH have to do with gay bars? NOTHING.I hate to disappoint you but the members of Rush are very straight arrow.

  • @STRATCAT101 oooh who cares

Are you some kinda gay-bar arsonist?

  • @wordupassholes Sounds about right ;)

  • @wordupassholes You would know where the Gay Bars are ,,,huh? Music is music so I hope you end up in jail with a bunch of gay guys as boyfriends, but you would like that too much....

  • @Jick769 YEA!!!!???!!! WTF???!!???

  • @bushbashr caps locks are incredibly manly

  • @wordupassholes YOU BETCHA !

  • Alex Lifeson's solo here is a sonic Masterpiece

  • Life changing moments!!!!

  • what the he%% would you think i would listen to!

  • The first time I listened to this I thought "WTF?" I put the album away for several years, focusing more on their other releases. As I grew older, my appreciation for this album grew more every time I listened. Into the Darkness, and Return of the Prince at the end of the Necromancer is quite simply amazing music.

  • Thanks for posting. I love this song, and the album. I'm not sure why a lot of people rate it low.

  • If I had to choose one band to listen to for the rest of my life it would be Rush.

  • @theWulfWard i have already made that decision. anything that isnt rush is awful in my eyes

  • @MrPogeymanz thats how I feel about black sabbath ozzy years..

  • @theWulfWard There's bands other than Rush?

  • @theWulfWard Profound.

  • @theWulfWard but i already do that by choice! dont you?!?!

  • @theWulfWard So Would I!!! I LOVE THEM!!!!

  • Dat alternate album art.

  • Funny thing is that this was almost Rush's *last* album. When it came out, nobody "got it", and it sold very poorly. The record company was ready to drop them and told them they'd better produce some hits on the next album. Instead of caving in to the "hit machine", they decided, "If we're going to go down in flames, we're going down on our own terms" and they wrote and recorded 2112. The rest is history.

  • lashed helpless by the gummybear's foot upon the shoulder to the pitching winds and unwinds

  • lol these songs

  • i'm not sure why, but at the moment, this is my favorite rush song.

    maybe it's the DRAMA lol

  • This honestly has some of the best vocals I have ever heard, this and the necromancer, actually, this album in general

  • Love the guitar solo at 3:15

  • Brilliant album, brilliant band

  • @jfnunez1973 Agree with you that this is a brilliant and dark piece of work. Not sure it blows away 2112 but for me, the fact that Rush were taking such a huge step forward with this album makes it more interesting in many ways than what would come later. Just like AC/DC's Powerage and Flick of the Switch, albeit for very different reasons, these 'transition' albums produced some of the bands' best music. Great post wordupassholes

  • @amcnewmanusa 2112 is an awesome album. But for me personally, I love CoS. It's so raw and metallic. 2112 is much more refined. Rush was so far ahead of their time and they played like it. How many bands would have the balls to play music the way they wanted rather than listening to the suits at the record companies? Not many. That's why I love this band. A "f*#& you, we're playing our kind of music" attitude is what wins die hard fans like me.

  • @jfnunez1973 You'll get no argument here. I love the fact that, after the reception CoS got from the critics, the easy thing to do would be cave and write an album the record company wanted. Instead, the guys went back to the studio and wrote another concept piece. And if nothing else, 2112 made CoS more accessible for fans who found Rush later on. Cheers

  • I remember to the later parts of the 70's playing this in my car and my uneducated passengers asking why I listened to " This music ". Funny how when Permanent Waves came out how they suddenly changed their minds !

  • Oh man? takes me back so far! thanks. good memories and painful ones as well. but I always had this music.

  • I would listen to better music.... if there was any

  • @ClocktowerGuardian I like it!

  • @kyla2112 ;)

  • This is one of their BEST TRACKS "EVER"!!!!

  • @MrMegaFredzeppelin

The lyrics are so good in this song as is everything else.

  • KICK ASS TUNE !!

  • Great solo!

  • one of there best albums it seems soo powerfull and beacuse in a dvd they said they were pretty high writing this album

  • First Rush album I bought was this one. Knew nothing about their music until I bought this. Became a huge Rush fan because of this Lp. Geddy's vocals are raw, piercing and awesome on this. And the songs. themselves, are phenomenal.

  • WOW! I have heard this album about 40X, but not once in at least 20 yrs! What a blast! Awesome album, really, amazing!

  • a hahaha . . . lame, taught you were the other kind, sorry for bothering kind ser . . .

  • I will have to agree completly, we can always relate so easily to the bands that we love... music seems to have this property to brings up such a strong connection between it's essence and us and Rush are probably one of the best at this. Their lyrics are so pure, so sincere, you get this feeling inside of you that tells you it comes from the heart and I can relate to The Fountain of Lamneth so much as well, it's incredible. :O I agree, I think critics just been blinded by it's excellence ;)

  • I think one of the aspects of Rush I like best are the lyrics. I can always relate to them in one way or another and I can relate to every single part of Lamneth, it amazes me. Caress of Steel might have tanked but I think it's a masterpiece.
