  • 45:10 lol

  • Learning in a social context and self paced learning are a contradiction in terms.

Its true, the concept of merit badges and other socially facilitated feedback are grossly underestimated, particularly for boys

  • Very insightful and friendly chat on vision of future. All these guys are amazing and it feels so good to be part of this.

  • We really don't need these colleges we can't afford. The ease of getting loans and credit just makes the tuition rates go higher and higher. . The online learning programs should be better recognized and should have the authority to give exams based on their material so ordinary people can self-study and get legitimate degrees online for a fraction of the cost of a big name mortar and brick college.

  • Thanks a lot Sebastian and Peter! The AI class was an amazing experience!

  • Sebastian talking about teachers being able to just construct courses on line, but how does that teacher get paid, if not by an institution.

  • @PeruMule Through research funds. Research is already a big source of funding for graduate students. A part of research fund can be dedicated to teaching staff.

  • Has anyone made a transcript of this talk available, by chance?

  • I would say that people are more likely to watch a video lecture than to do homework, because it's easier.

  • Thanks to Sal Khan and Stanford professors Peter Norvig and Sebastian Thrun who made the online classes possible.

  • "I met my wife on campus, and that was worth at least 40k dollars" - I lol'd hard!

  • Thanks, The course,AI, has been great and I hope to use Khan academy to make math teaching much more effective in my school.

  • Khan Academy and AI-class are the best paradigm of open and distance learning.

  • Ivan Illich's vision finally getting realized! Hats off to everyone for the initiative.

  • I am doing the AI, ML and DB classes. What is amazing to me is that a textbook is not necessary because the lectures are so good.

  • @lbjvg That's exactly how I feel. In fact, I'm using a lot of what I learned in the AI and ML classes to complete my final year project. What's surprising is the first time I came across any of the terms/concepts was during the video lectures, and already I feel confident enough to apply them in real-world situations.

Thanks go out to everyone who made the online classes possible.

  • super Like!

  • 27:44 - that is kinda depressing feeling :(

  • @Funtasmia You don't have to feel depressed. I think it's pretty amazing! (btw i know this post is 2 months old) Imagine the implications...it implies that a GREAT percentage of those that have an Internet connection are probably capable of learning and that they want to do so as well! We can gain new insight on what the problems might be and we can gain and give new hope to other people. That is f'n fantastic! These are things that are fun, interesting and important things to discuss.

  • I believe every high school should include an AI Class :)

  • Sweet! Love this class, Thank you AI!!!

  • just wondering when this will be offered again. I totally missed it.

  • Prof. Thrun and Prof. Norvig have really changed my entire perception about computer science education. Without directly interacting with the instructor i can actually learn. Thanks to them and offcourse to Salman Khan for their amazing efforts to spread the reach of quality education.

  • Next time people should really disconnect when they're done with their question or if they have no question. Its amazing how few new faces got online, during the ~45 minutes.

  • I'm a psychologist and for years I have heard about cognitive psych. and modelling cognitive processes. But I had the feeling that I was only scratching the surface. The thing that I appreciate the most of this course is the experience of surprising myself doing things like and MDP, without having proficient mathematical basis, and the opportunity to deep in cognitive processes.

Maybe this is one of the signals that Stanford Online staff is going in the right way.

  • Its not only the videos, but tests and hw are also important. Learned that in the AI course. It "forces" you more to really learn the stuff you want to learn.

  • You should definitely start teaching languages. Khan academy style + ability to meet on hangouts with native speakers would be a killing feature.

  • @kuzniarpawel Yes, Sal, teach Bangla please!

  • 26:00

let us do the data analysis !!

you worked enough for us to be able to do it,

    please give it as projects

  • @deuscaesar I agree I wish the AI class could include more hands-on!! And possibly some programming and Data Analysis!!

  • sal khan voices seems more prone to audio artifacts than usual,

and i heard it enough to compare with peter norvig or sebastian thrun for exemple

  • AI Power- Go get it :P

  • Happy that I am a part of this change. I am doing two classes AI and DB and the lectures are 10 times better than what our professors can teach. The Khan academy is also very wonderful, I am not even sleeping at nights, to learn something, get badges and post them on my fb :)

  • Projects such as these, together with free knowledge projects such as Wikipedia are truly having a profound impact on the world, making it more democratic and a better place to live in in general.

  • this is awesome!

  • Khhhhhaaaaannnnn!!!!! (Sorry couldn't resist.) AI rocks!

  • 45:15 ... well said

  • Amazing. Thank you, guys.

  • haha, the student eating her sandwich at the very beginning of the video....

  • @Angelblade717 I walk into class many times with food and eat it as the professor begins his/her lecture all the time here at UCLA.
