Well, it is cruel and irresponsible if it hurts the skink. The wheel is way to small and will likely cause back pain and injurys. Its like giving a kid access to drugs and then when the kid gets hurt, say its okay because you didn't force the kid to use them.

Its accurally pretty similar. When an animal runs in a wheel the brain releases hormones that makes the animal "feel good". Thats why a animal will continue to run in a way to small wheel despite getting severe pain in the back. And no, I'm not a animal activist, however I people who threats their pets wrong because their to lazy to read about the animals before they get it.

Lizards in the natural take off at great speeds. This is a great idea to keep him mentally active!! Though there are obviously concerns about him hurting his back, he may lead a healthier, longer life because of the mental stimulation and a better, more content life.

I've had a couple of lizards of that species. They're smart. lively little lizards. But, contrary to popular belief, it's not a skink. It has the classic neckless skink shape, all right--but it's really a yellow-throated plated lizard, Gerrhosaurus flavigularis, and a dirty liar. (Sorry, that last part is from a Larsen cartyoon. They don't lie at all.) I hope the little booger is still going around and around four years later.
