  • the pie your mother listening too and theres beautiful misic too

dont worry your mothere listening and amiling to you

  • God can be found in this music...

  • I know John, I do know. I just can't get the fog to clear.

  • Words simply cannot express the pictures that music of this nature evoke in one's mind. I won't even try, but thank you so much for uploading this piece of music. Soooo wonderful!!!! :))

  • thank-you all for the lovely thoughts. I was married in October and hired a string quartet to perform. This was also the piece they played as we all paused for a moment of remembrance for my parents who are both deceased. If you are ever in the Shreveport area, Dolce Strings, did an awesome job. Thanks again

  • This was was being performed in Pistoia,Italy when my mother was born...My grandfather named his daughter......Thais.....so this piece holds a SPECIAL place in my heart.

  • This will be played at my "Confirmation of Life" - it is one of the loveliest pieces of music - such strong feelings of what it's all about, and gentleness for us to look forward to..... you're lucky to hear this....

  • this is the lovely paul o grady's favourite piece of music

  • I saw Thais at the Met with Renee Fleming and Thomas Hampson. Of course, this meditation was a highlight and it received an enthusiastic ovation.

  • Dislikes?

I don't want to live on this planet anymore...

But I will for the beautiful music.

  • The best performer with the best stradivari (Davidov) and the best modern composer.

  • Sublime! And even that word fails to capture the beauty of this composition.

  • Wonderful. I like it more played by Josef Suk, but this version is worth listening.

  • I prefer Sarah Chang's rendition. It is also here in YouTube, under "Meditation de Thais, Sarah Chang".

  • Close your eyes and you can be wherever you want to be

  • I like it better when it is accompanied by a harp rather than a piano.

  • Made me cry tear tear

  • so beautiful.

  • this title is confusing. Yoyo ma was born in Paris to Chinese parents.

  • @atplato The title of the piece is "'Meditation' From Thais"

  • Beautifully done and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you!

  • For one of the most beautiful girls that I´ve ever known, Beatriz Quintero Alvarez de Eulate... now in the other side of the river.

  • So moving. I am crying!

  • im a huge hip hop fan have been most of my life but im am a bigger fan of sound music melody and passion i have to say this is beautiful and the essence is mezmorizing a sound elegant in every language

  • CUM DRAGON

  • I love the Meditation. Mother and I saw Beverly Sills and Sherrill Milnes in this opera when the Met came to Atlanta. The opera as a whole is fabulous - the sets, costumes, the touching story, and of course the two great operatic stars. An experience of a lifetime.

  • The first time I have ever heard this music from Massenet was a very unforgettable affair that lead me to appreciate classical music more than ever.

  • @marrieter08 Well, actually, this is a late romantic era piece. The classical era was essentially anything that was written from 1750 - 1830. I'm quite the smart ass, aren't i?

  • @GagaMan214 The term classical music coincides not only on the time frame (but depends on how one has used and coined it on a particular musical piece) but pertains on the WESTERN GENRE of every singular pieces of musical oeuvre from the earliest up to the avant-garde musical representations.

  • @marrieter08 You used larger words than I. I've been outwitted again...

  • @GagaMan214 Don't be so pedantic....if you love it, you love it, there is always someone to pick holes and ruin the experience instead of just enjoying it for what it is.. Smart as is not the term I'd use.. something far more simple....KILLJOY

  • just to beautiful for words... thank you itzhak

  • ¿Sabes?

  • Cello irs the most amazing instrumwnts

  • My own feeling rigth no....

  • Closing my eyes I travel back and back. Until I find her there, and bring her back to now. Mile by mile reduced to nothing. Open eyed, she's gone, and I step into the future remembering how I used to think of her when we were separated. Stream of time, where am I then or now o.

  • When everything is said and done and all the meat suits of the world have dried up, this will be all that is left.

  • i played this piece (on the violin) and gave everything i had and when i opened my eyes (i play with my eyes closed) i saw that everyone in the room had tears streaming down there faces :') i cried of happiness seeing that and ... just felt like in a other world playing this piece and you can not play this piece beautifully if you do not give and open youself. It is all or nothing not half!! and RIP to your mother i played this for my grandma the last time i saw her alive i must be in haven

  • Anyone can learn to play this, and play this good, but a only a select few are capable of playing with such feeling and emotion. This is were 6 year old prodigies are lacking. This is enough to prove my point.

  • Magnifique, écouter puis s'endormir en paix avec les autres et soi-même....

  • so peaceful...

  • Wonderful music!

  • I checked at the end for any pop-ups. I scared the total crap outta me the time I didn't check.

  • Wow! That work so Wonderful!!

  • Meditate on how sweet is life and so short, leaving those we most love behind but taking their memories with us...Leaving the rain behind and searching for the rainbow in life, with the pot of gold to receive us...Meditation, what a perfect name for such beautiful melody. And there are folks that say the heart is just a pump. I believe it thinks, desires and hopes, as well.

  • Anybody remember the episode of "Magnum, PI" with Patrick Macnee where he thinks he's Sherlock Holmes? This is the piece he plays on the violin. Anybody get here from Magnum Mania?

  • I have simply cryed and I am continuosly crying....

  • One of my mom's favorite musical scores...Beautiful, yet sad. She passed away a year ago. Hearing this makes me feel like she is just beside me. thanks for uploading this.

  • I performed this for my mother one last time as she lay in the hospital bed just a month before she passed away. I can see her moving with her eyes closed in the kitchen as I played in the other room. I love this piece and sometimes I struggle to keep back the tears as I play it. Love you MOM

  • @rednlonglegged The love never dies!

  • @rednlonglegged

omg i'm so sorry i accidently voted down T.T let me just say that my feelings go out to u...X(

By the way, i really love this piece, it really calms my mind :D

  • @rednlonglegged Awwww man. That was just to emotional for me to read & I'm not that sensitive of a guy, but you moved me with that. Cause I know exactly how you feel when you speak of your mom. Yhea it's really hard to keep'em back @ times. & I must say this is a beautiful piece of music you chose to play for the last time for your beautiful mother.

  • @rednlonglegged im so sorry for your mother. just thinking about that makes wanna tear up. and i love this piece too.

  • @rednlonglegged What a beautiful message! Sincere condolences, God Bless you,,,,and for your Dear Mother, Rest in Peace!

  • @rednlonglegged God bless you :)

  • @rednlonglegged That is so moving.. I miss my mum too and I'm in my sixties.. this is beautiful and thanks for sharing your thoughts. Peace and love

  • @rednlonglegged So touching - something which did not occur to me while my mother while she was here. So now, Dvorak, Debussy, Ct.-Saens help me hum my grandchildren to sleep. I am sure my mother is listening.

  • @rednlonglegged Sad... At least you did that before she passed away.

  • @rednlonglegged A beautiful evocative memory to share with us. Thank you.

  • I just fell asleep listening to this song. I just woke up to the title of the song and my earphones placed in my ears. So relaxing.

  • 19 people have not lived

  • It makes me plain weep.

  • musika hau zoragarria da,benetan, zeren eta bihotzeraino iristen zaizulako, eta gehiagorik esango nuke nik, bihotzetik haratago......bihotz/bihotzez.....

  • 19 people have no appreciation for music, no passion, and are probably either robots or tax collectors

  • It is meditation, no love, no happiness, no joy. Love, happiness, joy cannot exist without hatred, sorrow and saddness.

  • the 19 dislikes must be from nightowls

  • It helps to keep the opera’s narrative in context during this musing interlude. Two ships are crossing each other in the night: one is a high class call girl on the verge of a spiritual epiphany. The other is the antagonistic monk on a freefall for her charms while wrestling with his faith. As to which one gains enlightenment is left up to your sensibilities. Vulgarity, however, seems so out of place in these discussions.

  • Close your eyes after reading this relax and imagine the following with music.

think of that ur old, as you see your partner laying down the hospital bed, with drops of tears, smiling at you, and tells you to stay strong.. don't give up.. i'm always right with you. in your heart, loving you day by day as you live on.

if you felt this message sad or u felt ur tears, pelase thumbs up. Thank you.

  • this song gives me orgasm every time i play it.

  • im a hard rock fan, but i luv this peace. my friend!

  • @mikescruffy1 I believe you meant "this piece", but both are applicable.

  • @Mogladeshu hahaha, i like that.

  • Cellos rock hard.

  • I've met yo- yo ma...X3

  • I love this version on the Cello. It is so mellow and hauting. I just love it.

  • hearing this just made brought tears to my eyes. it sounds so pure, untainted and full of soul and its meaning yearns out to reach you.

  • so beautiful!!

  • @penkotan

amusing comment. It's very passionate music and gets people high. Please forgive them the indignity of their ecstasy.

  • I played this on Clarinet arrangement... Always brings me to tears.

  • why can't I be as amazing as him???? I'M NOT WORTHY! *sells cello* lolz jk I would never!

  • Just hop on a note and let it take you away to join the rest.

  • I played this for a competition called ISSMA...It is to this day one of my all-time favorite violin pieces...This version just has soooo much expression...Beautiful! :)

  • Ah! man...At some parts near the end they even appear to slightly bend space/time. Ma and Scott really blend. Gorgeous Playing!

  • This song was played to my fathers burial day.

  • @Nattigirl2412 ...an exceptional piece Nat, I hope, through the sadness of the loss of your father, the beauty found beautiful memories to stir.

  • @Tommyfazz Thank you.

  • *sighs* I want to learn this on cello now, but Im afraid that i will make it sound like crap. haha, oh well, ill stick to listening to this. :)

  • @oesdoob if you never try to learn you will never know

  • @commalTl haha true. I learned it on piano though. I need to get my cello fixed first. I will try :)

  • Lepo...

  • sublime. a true masterpiece!

  • this piece puts me in a mood like none other

  • Ethereal, gorgeous, spiritual, sublime. I wish life were comprised of nothing but beauty like this.

  • WHERE'S THE VIOLIN VERSION.

  • If people think the music is beutiful to there ears, then open ur hearts u might find more than just beuaty but emotion, and statistics.

  • wow... there must be 18 deaf ppl that listened to this interpretation ...

where can I get this downloaded? :D it's brilliant

  • @jazzecca2007 The album, "The Essential Yo-Yo Ma," is on iTunes

  • Wonderful moment!

He shows all the stars which shine in the sky!

    Thank you.

    Luz

  • Gorgeous. Once again, Yo Yo Ma demonstrates his contact with the sublime.

  • :)

  • AMAZING !!!!!!

    روعة الروعة

  • How is it possible that their are such ignorant arguments on such a beautiful, classical piece of work? This music is meant to serve as a relaxer, and as a mediator, yet the ignorance in some of you manages to shine through regardless. That's absolutely pathetic. Grow up a little. It wouldn't kill you, I promise.

  • If only i could make my guitar cry like a violin....can you imagine the emotions that the composer must have been feeling when he wrote this?? gee wiz

  • @poloplaya08 - I guess you could have said "While my guitar gently weeps".....just a thought - it's a beautiful piece, isn't it? Blows me away.

  • @poloplaya08 cello* not violin in this case.

  • the strings sing to me and bring tears yo my eyes, beyond beautiful

  • always heard this on the violin, love it on cello!

  • Brilliant!

  • This is one of the very best versions of the Meditation from "Thais" that I've heard. Yo-Yo Ma brings new depth of feeling to this composition and I appreciate it.

  • Doing this for NYSSMA...very inspiring piece.

  • Every time I see this guys name I think "yo ma-ma", and I think it some gangster rap song with a pretty pic.

  • If you are searching for real spiritual informationNot satisfied with what you have found?psychic awakening, precognition, mind powers, it all exists.THE-HIDDEN-SPIRITdotCOM It is time to lift the veil.

  • I've played this song on my violin and piano, and it still send chills through me because it is sooooo beautiful! Definetly one of my favorite songs EVER. It's just peaceful, and like Melodylette17 said, no judgment, just peace and acceptance.

  • you need someone as humble as yo-yo ma to play so well. a true musician is a servant to music - which resides high above the falsehoods of our petty power struggles.

  • Divine!!!!

  • Music does not jude, it loves and gives a sence of joy a sence of beloning in this world reminding us that there is still good in this world.

  • @Melodylette17 honestly i have to differ for what this song means to me. i believe it means more like, in such a hopeless world, there is beautiful music.

  • who could possibly NOT like this, its pure elegance and the deepest beauty. There is indeed a God and He occasionally gives us humans little treats like this :) I searched hi and low to find this, i was at the mercy of classic FM waiting to hear them play it again and to get the name of the piece, finally happened last night night thank God.

  • The interpretations are all beautiful and sublime. The genius is in the piece and heavenly thoughts that encouraged it.

  • Menghirup pagi, betapa surgawi! Basah embun kasihNya di pelupuk mata ini.

  • Why do people bring god into this beautiful piece? This isn't god; this is man.

  • ¡¡¡Es una soberana PRECIOSIDAD!!!

  • Have I heard this in a film at sometime? So beautiful...

  • My mother introduced this song to me when I was very young. REminds me of her. Thank you.

  • nice music / realy i like it ..

  • Just beautiful!

  • Thank you for your comments, and in response to them I was listening to this and it took me from a state of being overwhelmed to being at peace with myself. Thank you for coming into my life!!!! God certainly has a strange of way to push people together. I am very glad to have met you & your song. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making me THINK today!!!! You will never know what you have done to me. I hope you have the most Perfect Day today & All the Tomorrows!!!!!

    Erick

  • i really really happen to like this muzzikk

  • This song is so beautiful. My sister used to play this all the time, it brings back so many memories. The little run from 0:20 to 0:27 makes me feel like there is so much more to our existence..and its just untangable, even to imagine. Thank you for posting.

  • @karraht your.

  • @sakurahinata44 I responded with 4 words. My viola will sakura and hinata team combo your violin any day! Just my opinion.

  • If there is a God, I imagine he must be something like this.

  • @juanpa19 hey I'm christian and trust me there is a God,you cant see him and you cant feel him but some how you know he's there. You don't have to believe me but everything I'm telling you is true trust me. look up the "Lords Prayer" and if you want to invite God into your heart say the lords prayer and God will protect you from all harm. say the lords prayer before its too late because when God comes whoever doesn't have God in there heart will be left behind and not go to heaven

  • @nerd10634 Sorry, but are you for real? Guess you couldn't understand what I was trying to say.

  • @nerd10634 Not taken. Though, your ignorance is kind of offensive.

  • @juanpa19

    this "is", god...

it's even more beautiful like this.

  • @zaelu d'accord

  • @juanpa19 There is...how else could this come to be? Of course He is transcendent from His creation but this is a picture of that in that this music transcends this world and seems to transport us into another dimension. :)

  • @parakeethands huh ? Believe in Trees. They provide out air, they provide shelter, they provide warmth and they provide the material to make theat cello...all there for us to actually see and feel. Praise be the ulmighty Tree. Giver of life,

  • @parakeethands Actually, this music comes from this world, and, I am certain of this, the guy ho composed it was from this world. Music doesnt transports us into another dimension, but into another state of mind. Its all up there, in your head. Of course, that doesnt mean it is not fascinating.

  • @juanpa19 dont worry there isn't...just enjoy this wonerful music.

  • @juanpa19 dont worry there isn't...just enjoy this wonderful music.

  • @juanpa19

YES, THERE IS, MY FRIEND...AND HE CREATED ALL THE WONDROUS BEAUTY YOU SEE ALL AROUND YOU.....TOTALLY AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @musicsoothesusall You sound so certain that I guess there is no way out but to believe what you are saying.

  • @juanpa19 yes, for me, things like this are direct evdience that there is a God. :)

  • @juanpa19 Such a wonderful thing to say!...I will sleep well tonight and dream such an experience :) thank u for saying that :)

  • @juanpa19 He surely listens to it :p

  • Pureness
