  • I never played these games with music. but they are still my favourites.

  • do you need a joypad to play this game?

  • when I was a kid, like at age of 7 or 8, I still played better than the person playing this gameplay

  • @Propellinorsu I'm sure that there's some universe where someone, anyone, might care.

    This isn't that universe.

  • my parents played this game constantly when i was a little kid. any idea where i can fin a copy of this ame that would work on windows 7 or xp?

  • @59Hellfire You Can Use DOSBox On Windows 7 Or Vista

  • I remember having this bundled in with our first family PC! Packard Bell with Windows 95 and all the other old classics...chips challenge, ski, rodents revenge. Those were the days!

  • @fabz765 You must have got the same Packard Bell as us. That was also how I got introduced to this game :-)

  • My dad recently started up his old Acer. The fact that the second he opened this up, i remembered what it was, shows my opinion of this game.

  • Holy crap!! I have not seen this for over 12 years. How the hell do you still have this? I wish I could play this game again. Up for download anywhere?????

  • @techy87 You can go ahead and buy it for less than the price of dinner at GoG's website. It comes with its own DOSBox preconfigured to run on your machine, though you can also use the source port if you want a more modern approach instead.

  • Such a beautiful game

  • Man I remember playing this game when I was a wee small child. So much fun it was.

  • one of the very first games I ever played when I was little!

my sister and my dad and I used to play it all the time even though the aiming thingy freaked me out cause I thought it was a scary face with a moustache :S

  • Geiles Game!!! Mit dem spiel bin ich Groß geworden,, Aber ganz schön schlampige Spiel weise xD

  • I frakking loved this game! Scared the hell of of me though (some bits at least). I might try picking it up again but when I tried the demo my PC is now so good that the frame rate is in the hundreds! Makes for an... interesting experience.

  • i wanna play this game again... one of the 1st games i ever played and still think highly of it

  • wow I remember my watching my dad playing this game wen I was 3 years old xD im 15 now..

  • Very fond memories of this game. Maybe I'm biased but the graphics still look great to me

  • This is my youth

  • i played this game as a kid. i thougth that im the only one in the world having this game until i figured it out that my friend is also playing it. then someday i found "purple laser" in this game and said to myself "holy shit! i must be the only one who discovered this weapon! fuck yea!" great times.

  • one of my favorite games. I still have the Anniversary Edition CD xD

  • one of my dad's favorite early PC games he ever played :3

  • Man, I used to love this game, but after watching this video...

  • @fwfwfw

your dad? fuck im getting old...

  • God, my nostalgia gland is swelling up something fierce. Almost wanna cry..

  • This game is in my top ten games of all time. IMO the graphics have held up (audio definitely has not however). Also the nostalgic factor involved. I played the shareware version of this game in daycare. Those were the good days... :)

  • picked up a mint version of descent 1. Boxed with everything, manuals, ordering info, strategy guide order sheet..it doesn't look like it's even been played. Sending it to phreakindee to review. It's MINT. Don't have the hardware to play it. $3 Salvation Army.

  • Woah.. looks like the build engine. Is it?

  • I really enjoyed this game but my DOS version crashed .I was finally able to find a copy on the net that would work in XP. Then, that one crashed. I've found some sites that allow download but something is missing in Win7 and I cant run it. Any idea where I might find a version I can run in WIN 7???

  • I would give up my left testicle to re-live this. I would also buy the DLC with my right testicle to re-live the moments since.

  • @MrFudd87 Er. DLC didn't exist when this game was released. DLC is a blight on gaming.

  • i got the original copy of this and descent 2! the good old times!

  • I remember playing this game with my father, Realy, these old games are better than the newer games.

  • lol i have an emulator for this game, and i own the cd for descent 2 i got fomr my grandma years back but never played. time to see if this baby will play on XP.....

  • This is the best game EVER! I remember playing it when I was like 6 years old or something.

Does anyone know where can I get it?

  • @EternalAwait

GOG[dot]com (GoodOldGames) has a Descent 1 + 2 full game bundle for only 6 bucks. D3 and its expansion are also only 6 bucks. Good buy IMO.

  • LOL i remember back when I was a kid and my mom would complain about how nauseating it all was just by watching me go 360, strafe, and move upside down. Games like this were one of a kind back then. Truly awesome!

  • One of the best video games ever maded!

  • Oh man......I loveeed this game back in the day.

  • This game fucking OWNED the shit out of PC gaming. It still fucking does.

  • ya man, my favourite game on my pentium133,good game

  • Classic Game Room should review this game

  • Old Skool. I played this all the time at Boys and Girls Club

  • Oh now this brings me back :) I used to watch my sister play on it all the time! :D

  • this game had the best music at the time. it smoked if you had a decent general midi card.

  • Google "Good Old Games.com" and they sell a downloadable value pack of both Descent 1 and 2 for $5. Then download the latest version of D1X-Rebirth for Descent 1 and D2X-Rebirth for Descent 2, and follow the very specific installation instructions and you'll be able to play Descent on very new machines flawlessly and over the internet with players all over the world. The latest version of Rebirth even has a working tracker to track online games.

  • This is what StarFox 2 should have been instead of the semi-awesomeness that it was.

  • wow !

  • I remember actually buying this at the time and being amazed at the stunning graphical and 3d experience (the real 3d effect made me dizzy so that for a while i would close my eyes and see this game playing behind my eyelids).

As this clip shows, even the explosions looked great.

  • you can buy this game on gog.com

  • I use to love the fucking shit out of this game where can i buy it at anyone kno

  • i didnt even know what this was called. god, my first computer game ever! I NEED TO PLAY IT AGAIN

  • I had this on my original Bondi blue iMac back in 1999.

In fact, I keep that iMac just for this game.

What I'm **really** interested in is playing against real people. I just have no idea how.

    Anyone interested? Let me know!!

  • I went through that level with only 5000 points

  • DOSbox is refusing to let me choose and configure my mouse from the control settings(it doesn't even let me choose anything for that matter). is there any specialist on DOSbox and descent that knows why is this happening?

  • this is the demo

  • Ahh, back in the day!

  • One of the best games, ever.

  • I played this on a pretty high end pc . P1 75 MHz, 40MB RAM, S3Trio :D

  • @ipariszalonna Wow. How many thousands of dollars did that cost you?

  • @MyNameIsBucket It was my father's working pc and it's scary how expensive these stuff could cost at that time :)

  • @KiranaForever my DX4 100 overdrive rinsed ;)

  • Suupergeiles spiel , hoffentlich gibt das bald für das iphone !!

  • Old games like this one can be bought at gog.com they're 5.99 (us) to 10.99. And when they're on sale they sometimes go as low as 2.99.

  • where can i find this game?

  • Its hard to believe that this was what gaming once was and somehow it was way more fun.

  • whoa. blast from the past. I remember playing this when I was a little kid. i always screwed myself with the proximity bombs...... i'm definitely getting dosbox back so I can play this.

  • I loved this game, had it on an early Mac, and it STILL makes me seasick watching it.

  • Some trivia:

This game was made in 1995, and released for DOS systems, playable on systems with 33MHz processors and 4MB RAM.

This game was the first video game on computers considered true 3D, i.e. it was the first to include three movement axes, and three rotation axes.

    How cool is that?

  • c'mon, not in HD?

    (kidding)

  • I used to play this on my father's computer when he was out. When I heard the door, I would just press the power button and that would cut the power. Didn't know much about computer (since I wasn't allowed to use it) so I actually didn't know about shutting down. More like a Super Nintendo where you would just turn it off.

  • I remember the last boss was ridiculously impossible to beat

  • Try to hit something ...

  • MEU DEUS.... EU JOGAVA ISSO! O_O

  • holyshit! Something made me think about this game today! I played this loads back when I was 7 and was terrified of the robots in it. I forgot about this game for over 10 years until today. Nostalgia is kicking in now of computer robots being the only worry in life :)

  • @Shemesis vvvvvv.d2x-xl,de

  • this game made me throw up sooo much

  • This was better in LAN against friends. First game that gave me motion sickness! :)

  • Brings back memories! I played this day and night when it came out in 1995. One of the most innovative and most underrated 3D games ever!!

  • Åhh, those were the nights when sitting and playing this best game ever!

And all of these multiplayer games via modem : -)

i still got the software for D1-3.

  • Ahhhh memories of summer vacation :)

  • Remember Descent: the Highest Form of Patriotic.

  • sooooooooooooooo nostalgic :'D omg

  • NOSTALGIAAAAAAAAAA.

This was the first game I ever played multiplayer over the internet. I would connect to my neighborhood friend's computer via dial-up, screechy connecting noises and all. <3

  • @edratliff: I used to go to Lord Soth from Happy Puppy when it was still around for all my game cheat needs back in the day

  • @Will87 racerx :)

But i dont use cheats, only at insane it´s so crasy to play with "porgyzs", i dont know how to write ;(. I think you know what i mean

  • I was hooked on this game back in 1996. Descent needs to be released on Steam NOW!!

  • I just dusted off my old copy of this game, any chance there is some internet magic to make it work on windows 7. I need to know nostalgia calls

  • @Undraluvspl As others have pointed out, your best options are D1X-Rebirth or DOSBox.

  • @HardWiredGaming Good old games has it pretty cheap and DRM free :3

  • @Undraluvspl

microsoft do a free pc emulator - virtual PC - install this and put on windows 95 and your old software :)

  • @xbluedevil73 forsaken is back and open source.. /fly.thruhere.net

  • I played this back in 1997, it came with an Acer pc along with Time commando.

  • @PavirryPe Acer was the company that introduced me to it, too; 1996, I believe.

  • @HardWiredGaming yup, me too, my parents had an old acer that descent came on as a demo, and later a family friend gave us the full version, i played the hell out of it... descent is one of my favorite games ever

  • @PavirryPe good times, i remember playing time commando back then, i finished this game hundred times

  • damn this brings back old memories

  • i remember playing that when i was 8 O_O

  • Descent games were always ahead of their times when they came out. Some of the graphics in Descent 3 look almost as good as the NGC/Ps2/Xbox generation.

  • The static scared the shit out of me.

  • i remember this game... good times!

  • This is my childhood, man was I blown away by this back in 95.

  • remember that robot that stole your shit and you had to chase down that little bsterd and i LOVED the guidebot he saved my ass more times than i can count

  • @K1llerSpades It's a ship. You can see it in certain views or when you blow up.

  • this was the best game i played on windows 3.1!

    i wasn't yet 7 and i played this :D

    sweet, sweet memories

  • The best way to play this game is through D1X-Rebirth.

You can get Descent 1 and Descent 2 versions at dxx-rebirth(dotgoeshere)com

There's another version at descent2(dot goes here)de called D2X-XL that is meant for D2, but can play D1 missions if you have D1 data files, etc.

They run faster, have a few more features, and even quite a few people who still play multiplayer.

  • @CrazyEnzo03 I already have both.

  • @HardWiredGaming

But in order for the dxx-rebirth stuff to work, you need the original Descent 1 and 2...which you need to BUY online.

Any place where they can be bought for free and still be compatible with the dxx-rebirth?

  • @nepomusik In short, where can you get them free? Sorry, can't tell you that.

  • I remember my friend lent me this game. I didn't want to give it back!

  • like doom in 3 d, beautifull, reminds me my childchood...

  • I remember playing it with my brother. I was like 5 years old and I had to push the fire button (ctrl). ;>

  • I got this way back then for an old Macintosh Performa.. was my favourite game to play on this machine.

  • Best best best game ever.

  • Windows 95 baby!

  • Man, I loved this game. Sadly, I only had the demo of this on a CD with some other older PC game demos.

  • I remebering playing from the dics called " powerplay"

  • This is coming to Wiiware as a remake.

  • thank you for this, i just relived some good memories

  • i used to have this game for playstation, it sucked lol. but the company that makes it has way better games like red faction

  • Hell yea this reminds me of back in the day

  • I realize now they're only trying to return my wallet.

    Aggressively.

  • im running windows 7 64 bits, is there any way to can play it?

  • chilorioRoX: DOSBox. To be honest, I'm not sure if they have a version that'll work for you, but you can give it a shot.

  • @HardWiredGaming I run DosBox under x64 Win 7 Pro, just have to disable Windows Explorer if I want to run in full screen though.

  • totally remember this game when i had windows 95

  • i wonder how i could the mac version somewhere, i used to have it for the old imac but i lost the cd

  • LOL! nub...didnt get the lvl 2 laser...

  • FanticyFlow: Yeah, nobody cares, dickwaver.

    B&

  • very hard mode Ruins the game I say

I go over this game in normal (3rd one) and hard (4th one). Hard mode is the best

  • Difficulty Levels:

Trainee - A bit too easy (except for the level 7 boss).

    Rookie - Just right...

    Hotshot - Too hard...

    Ace - WAAAAY too hard...

    Insane - ASDFJKL WTF?!!!!

  • @mmm07

    Agree.

Made it through all 30 levels (27, plus secret levels after levels 10, 21, and 24). Rookie level is the most appropriate, IMO.

  • Aw man I used to spend hours on this game back in the mid 90's!

  • I loved this game! i have a mac and I dont want to emulator a pc to emulate dos

  • This game crashes too much for me on DOSBox 0.73
