They would have made tons of money if they had done this in about 1999-2003 when DBZ was really popular in the US.
Then they should have skipped all of the Dragonball stuff and gone straight into DBZ. Throw a decent amount of money at it and just do a remake of the first saga all the way from Raditz to Vegeta leaving earth. That could have been done in about a 2 hour movie if you cut the filler from the cartoons and focus on the fighting.

If you relate it to the anime story, it will probably suck to you. Just detach yourself from ever even knowing Dragonball z. Now you might just see substantial acting that can make an action movie. But I agree with you from where you are coming from. I think that no matter what, FOX can't make a Goku look alike in real life and satisfy people. It is strange because a movie like that should be classic for the hope of matching something realistic, but I can't even imagine it.

I heard the Live Action Transformers movie was awesome and the exception to my belief of Live Action Adaptions of Animate fare being shaky! Dragonball Evolution sucks because the storyline is lame and contrived and having attractive Asian Ladies in the movie or having an all Asian cast isn't going to improve a bad movie! If it were a good movie your complaint about Goku not being an Asian actor would be valid!
people really ignore the fact the even though Goku is an alien he looks alot like his wife Chi Chi(Who is in fact Asian). He looks like a boy version of her and well it shows how asian he looks.
Also some characters in the story think Goku and Krillin (Chinese Shaolin Monk) are brothers.
Also Yamacha and Goku look very similar in the anime and we all know yamacha is asian in the movie LOL. Most important fact all these characters dress in Asian clothing most of the time.
I think a live action version of Dragonball or any Anime or cartoon for that matter is a huge waste of money why not just release these shows on DVD and Blu-ray sounds more economically sound than blowing dough on an experiment with no guaranteed net gain!

whats messed up is that people are complaining about hair style and race. i dont care about that. if you want to make a great movie you try to be as realistic as possible. i wouldve had goku with long hair, not spiked. the same fighting style as tony jaa, and action packed every scene. i would also create it with flashbacks like slumdog. because db starts goku off as a child. so flashbacks wouldve been great. i would take out the talking animals, instead replace it with pets before meeting bluma

You know what makes me more angry? They where going to make Zack Efron be Light on the American versiaon of Death Note: The Movie. They already have a movie and it just takes Americans to react it to make everyone hate Death Note all together....

oh goddess i watched it online T_T good thing i didn't pay to see it, it actually made the one they made back in the 80's look good (which i actually watched and liked a lot more better cheesy as it may have been) im just hoping that the avatar movie isn't as messed up as this movie was. i think with the actors Roshi's was the only good one.

Even Me with my friends could make a DBZ movie. If there is any filmaker group around that can do A DBZ movie even without the copyright authority please do it the right way. You can make Lizard Ball movie staring The Duper Zaians: Gosu, Gosan and The bad guy who turns good called Vedeta still be true to the original DB storyline and be the movie of the year :D

If you relate it to the anime story, it will probably suck to you. Just detach yourself from ever even knowing Dragonball z. Now you might just see substantial acting that can make an action movie. But I agree with you from where you are coming from. I think that no matter what, FOX can't make a Goku look alike in real life and satisfy people. It is strange because a movie like that should be classic for the hope of matching something realistic, but I can't even imagine it.

I havent seen this movie because I was disappointed with the emo goku in the trailer. Yea they wanted to evolve the animated dragonballs but they failed to make a better one. thats why this movie is a flop. I dont think the people responsible with this movie realized that it was goku's happy image that made the animated series great. Haha! I bet they will make vegeta look like jim carrey and act all goofy. The guy that played goku shouldve been better for the vegeta part! Haha! thumbs Down!

I heard the Live Action Transformers movie was awesome and the exception to my belief of Live Action Adaptions of Animate fare being shaky! Dragonball Evolution sucks because the storyline is lame and contrived and having attractive Asian Ladies in the movie or having an all Asian cast isn't going to improve a bad movie! If it were a good movie your complaint about Goku not being an Asian actor would be valid!

people really ignore the fact the even though Goku is an alien he looks alot like his wife Chi Chi(Who is in fact Asian). He looks like a boy version of her and well it shows how asian he looks.
Also some characters in the story think Goku and Krillin (Chinese Shaolin Monk) are brothers.
Also Yamacha and Goku look very similar in the anime and we all know yamacha is asian in the movie LOL. Most important fact all these characters dress in Asian clothing most of the time.

I think a live action version of Dragonball or any Anime or cartoon for that matter is a huge waste of money why not just release these shows on DVD and Blu-ray sounds more economically sound than blowing dough on an experiment with no guaranteed net gain!

in dragonball goku is a savior. instead he's a pussy in high school with a crush with chichi... which is no where part of the series. goku is gohan in this... and gohan is powerful. btw who is it that oozaru is piccolos disiciple for over 2000 years if goku is only 18 years old??? and goku isnt supposed to about being a sayian until radditz. and piccolo shouldnt have know about being a namek. this story destoryed dragonball.

its shouldve been like slumdog and ong bak 2 with some comedy and fun with a lot of action. and with a story that made sense. people say goku is a sayian so he's not asian... but what would make him blue eyes and a white boy from canada??? its a japanese character. if they wanted him to be unique, how about having a mexican, indian, a black person as goku? a white boy as goku proved to be a failure as goku. tony jaa was the best for goku. and fox destoryed it. and created a shitty story we hate

bluma shows up. i would have him not know a bit of english until bluma shows up looking for the dragonballs. once in the broken home in the woods the red ribbon army shows up to steal the dragonballs from an innocent bluma. but goku at age 9 beats the shit out of them. and continue a journey. leading up to piccolo from flashbacks.

whats messed up is that people are complaining about hair style and race. i dont care about that. if you want to make a great movie you try to be as realistic as possible. i wouldve had goku with long hair, not spiked. the same fighting style as tony jaa, and action packed every scene. i would also create it with flashbacks like slumdog. because db starts goku off as a child. so flashbacks wouldve been great. i would take out the talking animals, instead replace it with pets before meeting bluma
