I just heard back from IDA, too. Right, IDA collaborated to get the proof of the neglect for animal control. The cruel guardian was cited, and they think the dog was moved inside. IDA said they have since moved from the property, which was in Portland just around the corner from the (old) IDA office. Kudos to those involved for trying to help. A sweet dog. Chilling how simmeringly angrily he responded to the dog's warm greeting. Heartbreaking to think this might still be going on elsewhere.

This video was linked in the latest Dogs Deserve Better newsletter. I certainly hope someone has removed the dog the dog by now! With so many people asking about the dogs whereabouts, he might have been saved from these heartless owners sooner if more information had been given. Thank goodness there are people like you around and I hope the dog is taken from the owner eventually. This is the most common sight in Greece, dogs chained with no food or water permanently until they actually die at the end of a short chain, its tragic.
I am appalled that this dog still remains in this sad situation someone please call the SPCA. Once the owner took the empty bowls from the dog and placed them on the porch it was obvious that what we were seeing was a dog torture. It is not necessary to show the video to take the dog away. We taped with the understanding that we wouldn't take this video to the TV stations, so as not to put our whistle blower in jeopardy with the neighbor. Our plan was to tape with the intent to prove he was in violation of our local tethering law. Frankly, we had no idea how bad the dog's situation was until after we got the 12 hours of tape.
the scenario? it's horrible and it is good that the situation has been rectified. but i have to ask about the person who posted the video? why did they choose to tape it instead of contact animal services as soon as they saw the dog out there without water instead of letting it suffer yet another day? :(
This video depicts twelve hours in the life of a chained dog. The video was taken after a whistleblower came forward about this poor dog's situation. We worked with the whistleblower to record the dog for 12 hours on a day when the temperature reached 92 degrees. The dog had no water and for several hours, no shade. The dog's guardian has been fined, but little has changed for this dog since the video was shot. We are still working with local authorities to seize the dog.
It is people like this that deserve to be placed in the same conditions that this sweet baby has had to suffer. shame on these human monsters for their selfishness and cruelty. There should be stiffer laws re: animal abuse like this! When are we as a society going to realize that animals are spiritual creatures and feel pain and joy just like us? Only a barbarian would do something like that to a Canine. You can tell by the surrounding that the "human" living in that dwelling isn't exactly swinging from the upper branches of the evolutionary tree. The only appropriate punishment would be to chain the property owner to a tree for 24 hours and see how he or she likes it. If the legal system isn't going to start putting a stop to things like this, then we as citizens have an obligation to take appropriate action.

Get the police or any animal rights agency immediately. This is heartbreaking and if this owner isn't arrested there must be an investigation into who is not doing their job at once.
I'd like to tell everyone watching this that animal abuse happens very frequently, all around us. Please keep your eyes open and if you suspect something, it's probably true. Please call authorities! You can remain anonymous when you call. But PLEASE, do not allow animal abuse if you witness it. Most often than not, animals have NO ONE to help them! Many states have laws that will punish abusers.

I am a Dogs Deserve Better rep for Hobbs, NM. Our summer temps get up to 106-108 degrees. I have a foster albino pit that was chained for 6 years of his life. He has solar dermatitis around his eyes from getting sun burned every day and a basal cell carcinoma on his prepuce that is going to be surgically removed.

I do not have a dog. We are cat people. But my son has a dog and we watch him once in awhile. We have a perfect spot for him, a huge fenced in yard. We also have a large dog run. All dog owners should have fenced in yards so they can run around and get plenty of exercise and be protected and safe.

instead of holding the video recorder you should have given the dog some water and gone nextdoor to let your neighbor know because this looks like spying to me and i do not agree with that.
Keep in mind that if they didn't get any evidence that the dog was being handled with such little care whatsoever, they would never be able to save the dog once and for all. A bit of food and water are only temporary means of help. Unfortunately, this is not necessarily intentional abuse. So many owners do this simply because they don't know any better. Which is why a video like this has to be made so people can finally open their eyes and understand how harmful it can be.

I couldn't bear to watch this video, it made me sick to see that guy just tormenting the dog by leaving the water bowl there. This is a disgrace.

This video was linked in the latest Dogs Deserve Better newsletter. I certainly hope someone has removed the dog the dog by now! With so many people asking about the dogs whereabouts, he might have been saved from these heartless owners sooner if more information had been given. I'm amazed he's alive after living all summer in those conditions! That guy didn't even want the dog to touch him! Brought me to tears and sickens me as to what some people consider pet ownership!

Would you please update all of us on the location of this dog? People are reaching out to help either by calling animal control, the local government, just providing a rescue for the dog.

yes sometimes dogs act up, usally when a dam bitch is in heat but all my dog is sits down in the shade all day without a chain....
maybe i should buy him a TV haha! j/k

Idapdx, you must be receiving the posts via email. Please let us, someone know where this dog is at, so he can be rescued. I would not be opposed to removing him myself if I found out he is in Maryland!!

Again, I beg of whoever taped this to expose the town and the owners. Taping this for the authorities is all fine and good, but with the slowness of bureaucracy this dog could die. Please let someone else know this town, so other concerned citizens can rescue this boy!! Please, don't remain silent, I've been thinking about this poor boys sufffering since first seeing this vidoetape. Please don't let him die, because you are worried about your own safety. I understand that, but not at his expens

Thank goodness there are people like you around and I hope the dog is taken from the owner eventually. This is the most common sight in Greece, dogs chained with no food or water permanently until they actually die at the end of a short chain, its tragic.

I am appalled that this dog still remains in this sad situation someone please call the SPCA. Once the owner took the empty bowls from the dog and placed them on the porch it was obvious that what we were seeing was a dog torture. It is not necessary to show the video to take the dog away. Where is this dog being held? Somebody please help this defenseless dog.

yes, now re-read that.... "whistleblower came forward"- where did he go if not to the authorities? and if whomever the whistle blower was dealing with is "working with local authorities to seize the dog" it might be apparent they are not working very quickly" not quite sure where this took place but to my knowledge, if this video was sent to a local news station , it might speed things up a bit or even if the matter were reported to the cops, it would have to have been investigated

We taped with the understanding that we wouldn't take this video to the TV stations, so as not to put our whistle blower in jeopardy with the neighbor. Our plan was to tape with the intent to prove he was in violation of our local tethering law. Frankly, we had no idea how bad the dog's situation was until after we got the 12 hours of tape.

the scenario? it's horrible and it is good that the situation has been rectified. but i have to ask about the person who posted the video? why did they choose to tape it instead of contact animal services as soon as they saw the dog out there without water instead of letting it suffer yet another day? :(

Here is what is says:
This video depicts twelve hours in the life of a chained dog. The video was taken after a whistleblower came forward about this poor dog's situation. We worked with the whistleblower to record the dog for 12 hours on a day when the temperature reached 92 degrees. The dog had no water and for several hours, no shade. The dog's guardian has been fined, but little has changed for this dog since the video was shot. We are still working with local authorities to seize the dog.

It is people like this that deserve to be placed in the same conditions that this sweet baby has had to suffer. shame on these human monsters for their selfishness and cruelty. Please..please tell me this baby has been rescued! He/she doesn't deserve this life of lonely, isolated exstence. he love, snuggles and loving hands and hearts...

There should be stiffer laws re: animal abuse like this! When are we as a society going to realize that animals are spiritual creatures and feel pain and joy just like us? There would obviously be immediate action if this were a case of human neglect! Treating a poor defenseless dog like this is inhumane and heartless! Allowing for this allows for that ignorant, heartless part of our society to perpetuate this deplorable attitude! Implement rigid laws NOW to eradicate this heartless behavior!

As horrible sad this is - there are so many out there in probably even worse situations. So wish this dog and the others could have a chance at a real loving home. Owners like this are clueless to an animals intllegence. To them this dog is like owning a bike. Hmm which is exactly the way our laws treat stolen dogs. Not like living beings that might be in great danger - but like a replaceable metal object...

Only a barbarian would do something like that to a Canine. You can tell by the surrounding that the "human" living in that dwelling isn't exactly swinging from the upper branches of the evolutionary tree. The only appropriate punishment would be to chain the property owner to a tree for 24 hours and see how he or she likes it. If the legal system isn't going to start putting a stop to things like this, then we as citizens have an obligation to take appropriate action.

Get the police or any animal rights agency immediately. This is heartbreaking and if this owner isn't arrested there must be an investigation into who is not doing their job at once.

I'd like to tell everyone watching this that animal abuse happens very frequently, all around us. Please keep your eyes open and if you suspect something, it's probably true. Please call authorities! You can remain anonymous when you call. But PLEASE, do not allow animal abuse if you witness it. Most often than not, animals have NO ONE to help them! Many states have laws that will punish abusers.

Fortunately, our community has a tethering law and we wanted to video tape as a way to document this case, but also raise awareness of chained dogs. We're working to get this dog, but have to work within in the law - which can be a slow process. Squeaky wheel gets the grease - never give up!

What is the status on this dog?
I am a Dogs Deserve Better rep for Hobbs, NM. Our summer temps get up to 106-108 degrees. I have a foster albino pit that was chained for 6 years of his life. He has solar dermatitis around his eyes from getting sun burned every day and a basal cell carcinoma on his prepuce that is going to be surgically removed.
I just don't understand why people get a dog and don't enjoy them. They are really missing out on what their dog really has to offer them.

I do not have a dog. We are cat people. But my son has a dog and we watch him once in awhile. We have a perfect spot for him, a huge fenced in yard. We also have a large dog run. All dog owners should have fenced in yards so they can run around and get plenty of exercise and be protected and safe.

Keep in mind that if they didn't get any evidence that the dog was being handled with such little care whatsoever, they would never be able to save the dog once and for all. A bit of food and water are only temporary means of help. Unfortunately, this is not necessarily intentional abuse. So many owners do this simply because they don't know any better. Which is why a video like this has to be made so people can finally open their eyes and understand how harmful it can be.

NO! This is torture. WTF is the matter with these people? People who hate dogs and have them, that needs to stop!!! Any "authorities" that issued a fine and forgot about this need to be brought up on charges themselves. What has happened with this dog?
