I bought the original at full value. I sold it for the price of a new iPhone 3G. Now I want an android phone, maybe the HTC Hero is they can just improve on the touchscreen responsiveness, and make it thinner. I no longer respect my iPhone as a result of the instability I exerience viewing youtube videos, and the poor icon launch interface.

You're forgetting "Network Effects" :
1. The cell phone Operating System battle is fierce (and very important). Gaining market share is critical.
2. Their apps market benefits from more users.
3. Service providers underwrote most of those price cuts.
4. Spillover to other Apple products.
