  • I was directed to this channel by dprjones, and this video has left a great first impression of you to me!

Whenever I am in a conversation about religion, I'll never be able to forget the idea of the feeding of the 5,000 being a giant sushi bar!

  • whats your opinion on Traditional Chinese Medicine, sir?

  • @dejstil1974 I've never really thought about traditional medicine although my father had extremely negative views on any cures that were not orthodox. By the way, in old age I have ventured to start learning Chinese. Have you tried the language at all?

  • @tenneral

Dear Sir. No Im not schooled in chinese languaje, I barely know a few words. as I am from Costa Rica my english is precarious as well, but I can tell you that althought I love science ( I work in this field) and I love skepticism and scientific method, Ive found quite interesting chinese health approach. I think is great that you are learning chinese and one can never be too old to learn something, neuroplasticity tells us this. excellent! can you speak some spanish?

  • Added to my "Extraordinary claims" playlist.

  • this guy be eloquent

  • Ah, god ol'God channel :D

Doing their bit to waste our time.

  • You know what else is a miracle?

Science claiming that chaos formed life then chaotic natural selection and genetic drift did all the rest!!

It's like putting chemicals in a paint mixer and out pops a living organism by pure chaotic chance!

To think that science says that!

Who would believe such rubbish? Chaos can't form the universe from nothing and the have everything so tidy as to cause life. Chaos could not knit a sock much less be responsible for all the complexity around us! Bollocks

  • Your understanding of science is pathetically inadequate.

  • But you don't need science to be a non-believer and an atheist.

    Atheists are non-believers amiright?

Who needs an understanding of science or to be rational to non-believe.

See my understanding of science is not the point. Science is not a means to say there is no God.

And no atheists need science in order that they reject God.

  • That's not relevant in any way. I said nothing about your beliefs, only that you have no understanding of science whatsoever. You can't criticize something you don't comprehend.

  • --You can't criticize something you don't comprehend.

    Oh?

Atheist seem to feel free to criticize things they don't understand? By what standard do you use for your moral outrage? Or your presumption regarding my understanding of Science?

Have you ever heard of the technique of polemical argumentation? Are you able to comprehend that usage in order to promote critical thinking?

  • At what point did I say anything about atheism? This isn't a discussion of belief, I was simply calling you on your stupidity. What moral outrage are you talking about? You repeatedly fabricate non-existent issues. I base my "presumption" on the fact that you made one of the most unintelligent posts I've ever read which indicates that you have no comprehension of science at all. And it's not "polemical argumentation", it's "polemics". You're every bit as stupid as I initially thought.

  • Yes I can see that it is important for a troll to insult a person and immediately attack that person as ignorant thus poisoning the well.

You may think you are an intellectual troll and thus superior but I submit that you are only using this forum to get your anger out.

    Have fun with that.

Do you feel better being a troll?

  • Actually, based on your original comment I'd say that if anyone's a troll, it's you. Coming on a rationalist's video and posting an idiotic comment for the purposes of inciting anger is trolling; I simply called you on a specific issue, which you haven't addressed. It's actually impossible to be a troll by responding to a comment, by the definition of "trolling". Once again, you have no real response for me, so you try to redirect the discussion. My first comment still stands.

  • Seriously, go read a text book.

  • Perfectly put! What a lot of people don't know is that Jesus repeated the miracle sometime soon after by feeding another 4000 with a few more small fish and bread.

  • But he's obviously far too busy to do the same for refugees in Darfur or southern Ethiopia. As for curing the sick, he's lost the knack lately, it would seem.

  • Only someone with a profound lack of information about God would think that God is going to rid the planet of evil. I know why there is evil but you seem to think evil is God meddling where He has been openly rejected. God is not the meddler in personal affairs but more like a parent lets who let's you make your own mistakes. The problem of evil is the problem of fouling our own nest and then looking to others to come clean it. The mess we make on earth is fouling our own nest.

  • Like your style man, just subscribed...More should do the same!!!!

  • Here's a miracle for you.

The ability of science to put a telescope into orbit around the Earth that allows us to peer back in time billions of years to the very beginnings of the universe.

Then, for an encore, the ability to repeatedly send human beings into orbit to repair and service the device.

Not to mention the Moon landings.

Today we take miracles for granted. So much of our pampered modern life depends on these wonders, and we never stop to think about what makes it all possible.

  • Isn't it funny how crap miracles are in the age of cell phone cameras and 24 hour CCTV?

e.g. Jesus on a slice of toast. The "virgin" Mary depicted as an oil stain on a window etc.

    Funny that.

  • Not to mention, that those 'faces' need not necessarily be holy or divine. How can anyone say certainly that those burn marks on the toast resemble Mary, and not just any ordinary person?

  • Apparently, parting a fool from their money is not a crime. I wish I didn't have a conscience. :-(

  • I hear you brother! We need to fight our consciences and let the money flow!

    Amen!

  • 78 a month, 5,000 after 5 months? Sounds like a pyramid scheme to me. :P

  • The bullshit of "Miracles"

Bloody hell i love your video

  • There's only one Miracle in the entire universe and it's called human brain!

  • The human brain is a Miracle???

    Nooooo

  • It is Indeed! It's the only thing that can find ways to send shuttle to space! It's the only thing that can invent machines that makes life easeir!!!

  • Semantics. I wouldn't worry too much.

People do use words in different ways.

  • Just wanted gto echo the guy below: dprjones was right about you! I'm so glad I subscribed.

  • dprjones was right, ur brill m8

  • The new issue of Skeptic magazine has a great article that covers a lot this...

    Great video... 5*

  • ummm i had annoyingly dried skin on my elbow for years, fine salves and ointments failed. but prayer did not fail. my elbow is way less annoying now

  • Isn't it interesting that thousands of hospitals and clinics all over the world seeing thousands every day, having had modern diagnostic equipment for several decades cannot produce one shred of evidence of a miracle? You're right about religious hucksters, it's criminal in any moral sense. They know full well that they can take refuge behind a sacred cow and play the broken for suckers and the authorities are lothe to charge them.

  • Mother Theresa died in the same week as Princess Diana. Elton John sung Candle in the Wind at Diana's funeral which in turn was recorded and became his biggest selling hit. However, a tribute song to Mother Theresa was released that didnt receive as much publicity. The Mother Theresa song tribute was called 'Sandals in the Bin'!

    Great videos. Subscribed.

  • That Ma Theresa song sounds a hit to me : I like it!

  • Thanks, really great video.

It's nice to see an intelligent older human that uses their brain. Not that older people are less intelligent, it just seems like the older generations tended to be more brain-washed when it comes to religion.

Your very easy to understand too, nice logical arguments.

  • Har, This video has made me day. I really do hate those televangelists, we get to many over her in the United states. Keep making your videos, i bloody love em.

  • i find this really funny now that i think back on it, since i was already treated for it before hand.

  • I am truly delighted and happy that your leukaemia has been cured. Well done on going through all the therapy that your doctors prescribed: it's great to know that you are getting fit once more. As for the preacher, words fail me! That's self-delusion on a grand scale. At least they didn't try to take money off you too.

  • heh, this video reminded me of when i got "cured" by some preacher about 10 or so years back. i had had leukemia and got treated for it and was well on my way to being as healthy as i could have been from it, then a few months later my mom took me to this church and the people found out about me. so they got the preacher to do the ceremony. All this man did was cover my ears and yelled "demons get out of this boy", then everyone claps and says to me now yo have nothing to worry about.

  • a god that lets shit like that happen isnt any god of mine

  • a school bus just crashed in my town this morning there were many critical injuries and a child died. there is a god my ass...

  • My heart goes out to the child who died and those injured, as well as their parents. It must be especially hard for the families, but I know from personal experience that everyone in the community, even if you dont know the victims, can be deeply affected, so I do feel for you. But to use this as proof that there is no God is not fair. We cannot possibly understand why such things happen, but whether there is a reason or not, all we can do is pray for these injured souls and look to the future.

  • not fair! are you kidding me! What kind of god would let something like that happen? he can create the universe but he cant stop a truck from crashing into a school bus! i dont know why this happend, but the problem with religion is that it insists there are reasons for things that cant be explained. i can understand a drunk driver or a mechanical error, but to think a god had anything to do with this means he can FUCK OFF!!!

  • Bitch, I live in india and i have seen kolkatta. Mother teresa killed innocent suffering people by not providing them proper medication. She believed the pain of the poor people is where christ lives and that helps the others. What a cruel demon she was, have u ever seen the homes she has. Most unhygienic and ill facilitated although she has billions of dollars up her sleeves to spend. Mother teresa was a con artist at best. So dont mouth off like you know her. You dont, im indian and i know!!!

  • Nietzsche? Don't pray to him.

Quote a better one. Him who is pure love!

Be to others like you want them to be to you!

When we will have succeeded in this, we will have a real miracle.

  • Also: if God is sending these people cheques, won't that harm the economy? Somebody doesn't understand the concept of inflation - that's a lot of cash flowing into the market.

  • Your cynicism and honesty are refreshing. I did a video on this myself recently, though it pales in comparison to your eloquence and reflection. The GOD Channel is a fantastic, 24-hour comedy, though I worry about the innocent people being conned out of their money every day.

  • He who wonders over each thing and being, is living in an universe of miracles. So do wonder ...!

The greatest miracle for me are a lot of books, that are for the churches as ihr they would be nonsense. They are full of love and wisdom. They excite love, to him, who reads them with a little funk of love. There were spoken clear words ... and there happens to be love and joy. And step by step understanding, hy earth and universe has to be this way and it's the best ...Learn patience! Love wins

  • Good video!

One would think that if Mother Theresa could cure that woman's cancer, she'd have done a far better job alleviating the suffering of Calcutta's poor and dying. Of course, she was too busy flying around the world...

  • Have to say I agree with the other comments here, you're a very good speaker and I look forward to viewing your other videos =)

  • How very kind! I hope you like Kent: I was born near Canterbury and my channel background is from the village. Can you tell which one!?

  • I agree with you whole-heartedly. And you are a delight to watch and listen to. :-)

  • Thank you indeed. As I often say, we ancient blokes are either boring farts or we try to entertain: the latter choice is my choice!

  • Wonderful, passionate, down-to-earth and common-sense.

  • Alf wossisname, who wrote humourous anecdotes about his life under the name of James Herriot, mentioned that people would rather take medical advice from a vet than from a doctor, and would rather take husbandry advice from a milkman than from a vet.

(Note to Americans: Vet = veterinary surgeon, not veteran.)

  • It is a insidious criminal business all dressed up in its Sunday Best; and all the more reason to train people in skepticism at the professional level. My mom's evangelical friend has been exorcising her sickly son for a while now, and claims that hes been healed. But that was AFTER a lot of intensive medical care. The man even wrote up a paper proclaiming how God has healed him, and gave no mention of any of the medication and medical care he had received along with his exorcisms. Lordy...

  • Most of the 'healings' are just placebo's anyway.

That is the problem, if you can convince the person themselves that they are cured then you can convince the masses, and that is what makes it dangerous. People would rather have a man in a robe place his hands on them and say they're cured than go to a proper physician. It's sad to think how many human lives have been lost because of their naive nature and the charisma of a con-artist.

  • You are a very engaging speaker :)

  • Now how could Governments of the world tell churches and conmen (and women) to stop ripping people off when they spend their whole day doing exactly that. The world is full of people trying to rip you off, religious or otherwise. It's up to the individual to recognise the person or group for what they are. In future we will stop paying tax... stop working for 'The Man' and go our own ways. God Free !!!

  • I fear that you are right, all too right. What a world we live in. Thank goodness for Reason.

  • Agreed ... anarchy is not just a pipe-dream, it's merely a matter of time. Great video Tenneral.

  • I am affraid I am not such an optimist as you. I think we're all doomed. Not quite in my lifetime, but as I die i will be able to see it coming. I am only 33, yet I know by the time I am dieing (say 80 as our average), I am going to be seeing some bad things going on with humans. Not even revolution can save us now...

  • Really enjoyed that, made me laugh, keep spreading the word.

  • Hear Hear! It should be stopped. Innocent people getting ripped off.

  • You speak very very well. Thankyou.

  • <----- Big fan. :)

  • Bloody Hell, this is the first personal entry onto YouTube I've enjoyed for a long time. Cheers mate.

You scared my Goldfish when you shouted at about 4.02 in the video though. He's fine now.

  • Tell the goldfish it was nothing personal and drop him some extra feed from me! Thanks for the comment.

  • It was very nice to see you again.

I've just read some information, and watched a few videos here, about Benny Hinn. He is one of the largest global miracle scam artist working today. He took in more than $20 million last year just from the US. It is criminal.

    [...]

  • The more sophisticated, traditional, large and powerful church institutions are no better. Fundamentally, they all do the same thing. The "respectable" venerated religious organizations are just much more subtle in their graft, and many those deceivers may actually believe the "miracle" because they have first deceived themselves. But, in the final analysis, it is all just charade. Benny Hinn, Peter Popov, tenet revivals, The Vatican...all the same game.

  • absolutely great, i really like your approach :)

almost reminds me of patcondell. keep up the good work ^^

  • Any possible comparison with the great patcondell is flettery indeed! Thanks

  • What I meant to write was 'flattery'. I'm getting careless these days! But I am still flattered. Thanks.

  • miracle=fraud

    miracle worker= con person

    sad but true.

  • Other pagan gods changing water into wine also. Magicians of today can bamboozle people too. Those who can do it in the name of Jesus make millions. Carl Sagan spoke about the remission that occurs with some cancer patients from a scientific perspective.

And then which god? Not just the Christian religion claims miracles. LOL

  • Con artists are a plenty. Miracles happen, but it is a matter of perspective, I think. For example, a person came to my office with chronic back pain (she'd had it for 15 years). She'd been to docs and the only thing that seemed to help was pain killers. I worked with her for 15 minutes and the pain is still gone 3 years later. She calls it a miracle. I call it doing my job.

  • I salute your own excellent work and its fine results. It's the awful greed of the worthless healers which deserves reproach.
