Could somone please help me - my mum is driving me mad - she has a male version on tape singing this song - its not the Walker brothers, or Al Green she reckons it might be Keith Sweat I would be very grateful - thanks have a happy new year xx
if you have ever had to beg somebody to stay with you baby...and felt stupid (pathetic mostly) this song is a reassurance that You are not alone..well at least you tried! @24 yrs of age, i can relate..deeply
@ILuvMusic4real yes indeed..omg Rose did her thing. She wuz str8 drugged out red/blues but she sang that piece..screaming & all. Bette Midler sounded better 2 me than she does. I'm a back chyyk luvn that whyt chyck voice.
this song is here to stay, It will be ejoyed by generations to generations. It inspires me and many others. Shirley brown is a real diva, is she still alive?
I remember the original of this by Lorraine Ellison in 1966. Powerful!!!
I believe the movie was titled (at least her it was) Pirate Radio, about the pirate rock radio station, Radio Rock broadcasting from the freighter anchored off the British coast. Excellent movie
yes, every single version i've heard is just awesome, it really is just a really well WRITTEN song, and then of course amazing artists make it what it is, but a crap song is still crap even with a wicked singer. so credit to the writers as well ;)
It really does'nt matter who sings this song, they are all good in their own way. The song itself is just so powerful, credit where it's due......It just amazes me.
@johnnie160 and do you beleived it? I am so jealous of you because I just i heard it first time! lol one year is still something! and for the same reason: that movie, thank you England, we love you first for your music here. bravo! ;)
@johnnie160 that film is amazing, thats where i heard this wonderful song, where simon gets divorcedm this song was rite to set the mood in that part of the film, it realli mad me wanna cry but this song is just amazing

Impeccable phrasing + controlled registers + languid aspirations + just a damn good singer = masterpiece!
This isn't mere singing. This is the soul contemplating in sound.
