Hi Steve! Love your videos. I'll be able to get my first car soon over this summer, and I am currently looking at this car and the Ford Escape Hybrid (not the brand new 2013 one, one of the older 2009-2010 models. I also live in the heart of Denver, Colorado, where it snows a lot. It seems like for the price, and the fuel economy, the Escape is the better choice. Am I right about this? I don't know much about cars, but watching your videos sure has helped.
What! I'm 6'3 and I fit very comfortably in the third row. I'm no small child. Its on of the best third rows out there. Trust me, I know. Anything from an audi q7, to a dodge journey
I disagree about the third-row seats. I sat in them a while ago when they brought one to an auto show in my city and I found them perfectly acceptable for my 6-foot-plus height. The Journey's third-row was comparatively horrible. I would only consider a crossover if I needed transportation for lots of kids, but was on too tight of a budget for a minivan. Although I like the Durango, I'd still take a Grand Caravan first unless I had to tow a yacht. A V6 Durango doesn't make sense to me.
it weighs about 100 pounds more than the grand cherokee yet its underpowered. haha but yes who doesnt love a hemi? not great mpgs, but the hemis worth it. looks like american cars are coming back! yuss
You can fit two young adults in the third row without any violence, but certainly not two Mexicans. The 3.6l engine's acceleration won't make you smile, but it isn't bad for such a big car. You won't need no hearing protection, but you can certainly hear the engine roar on acceleration.
I also disagree with Steve's assertion that the interior felt cheap. My impression is the interior felt just right for it's target audience as a larger family size SUV, and not a high-end luxury SUV. I also don't quite understand the comparison to the smaller Journey. The Journey feels quite a bit smaller than the Durango, and is intended for smaller families and commuters. So, in my opinion, the Durango is a great fit for busy familes that wan't more space for passengers and their cargo.
I bought the '11 Crew Lux with a Hemi a couple weeks ago and it is awesome. Averaged about 21mpg highway at about 75mph and city driving is around 16ish mpg. The Hemi definitly has some balls. I test drove the Traverse LTZ and Explorer Limited and the Dodge has, in my opinion, the upper hand in comfort, interior quality and looks, and power. The Explorer had a really cool dash but there are so many buttons just to change the radio or temp that I could see my getting really frustrated. GO DODGE!!
I have the crew model. I've gotten so many compliments on it. It is definitely an improvement over the previous model. Its a very comfortable ride and very roomy. I wish I would've gotten the HEMI though...the Pentastar is good, but you can definitely tell the difference between that and the HEMI.
Looks and feels Cheap and 3rd row is there for the smallest of small Children? This is the only review I have heard either of these comments? Some reviews even sat in the 3rd row and stated there was plenty of room for 2 full sized adults.
I think out of all the suv's in it's class, the new Durango gets #1 overall.
dodge has no imagination in design , they still have the same ugly design as with the old on and the one before. they need to fire the guy who designed this piece of junk
@ariell92 so what is it? you mean the x5, mercedes ml, porsche cayenne, audi q7? they are much more expensive. in addition, i think the new durango looks great
I just picked up a Durango Heat this week, and I am truly impressed with it. I also disagree with the reviewer's comments on the interior. It's upscale and beautifully executed; not "plastic-y" at all. Soft surfaces abound, and the chrome accents look great. The night lighting is also something to see; a great execution. I agree the 3.6 could use more pep, but I believe it's a function of the gearing. The 8-speed should help. I'm getting over 19 mpg so far in suburban driving. I'm very happy!
I have driven the 2011 Dodge Durango with the new 3.6 Pentastar engine and I can state with unmistakable clarity that it is NOT under powered, not even close. The 3.6 has plenty of power. The reviewer in this video suggested that the Durango with the 3.6 was on the verge of being under powered, not true. Also, I disagreed with his comment that the interior seemed a little cheap, also not true. The interior is very nice, quiet and comfortable. The new 2011 Durango is very impressive
@Archivesman1 I love your rebuke because I love INTELLIGENT debate...most YouTube comments are profanity-laced rants with no point. Thank you for disagreeing so succinctly and reasonably. Subjective points you've touched on but I felt like the Durango almost NEEDED the HEMI..almost...and the plasticky interior didn't seem to live up to the Durango's price OR that of the new Grand Cherokee's more elegant look.
@stevehammes It's possible that if the one you were driving had all wheel drive, then more power would be needed for powering the front wheels as well. The one I drove had rear wheel drive only and of course no power was going to the front wheels. I suppose it could take enough horsepower to power the front that the difference between a rear wheel drive only and an all wheel drive could be felt.
@stevehammes I agree. Dodge should have upped one on EVERYONE and offered the updated 3.0L 240hp V6 diesel that's in the new ML class. Otherwise, I'm not sold on the new Durango as it's not as rugged for what I need. My '00 R/T has low end and mid range, lots of towing and a low range transfer case for the hunting trails. Even if Dodge included in the price of a base 'AWD' model a low range transfer case and wheels and tires that are more liveable I'd pick one up.
@stevehammes If you were expecting the luxury of the Grand Cherokee you can not forget about the Citidel trim level. And when is plastic NOT in any interior?
Sorry if I missed it but I've watched twice now and didn't catch your feelings on the transmissions performance. I am a MOPAR man all the way because of my first/current car, 1996 Dodge Ram Van/B2500. This year has been such a joy for me due to Chrysler's strong come back under Fiats leadership. The one source of trepidation I have is their transmissions have been sloppy. It saddens me to think they are one fix away from being a global contender.
@Archivesman1 There is no 3.6 engine that isn't underpowered in a vehicle that heavy. Maybe if you live in the middle of the country with no hills it would do fine.
And those who prefer more power can opt for the HEMI V-8. However, I'm with you that the 3.6 Pentastar isn't underpowered. In fact, its cousin the Jeep GC has been a winner for Chrysler. The HEMI V-8 is the one if you need more power and/or stronger towing. Also, the HEMI will get a 6-speed auto for '12 model year; I'm hearing about the 8-speed auto with the Penstar, but it's on Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger. Hope it comes soon in the GC and Durango.
292 base hp is almost V-8 esque. If you'll need to tow something like a boat over 7,000 lbs., opt for 5.7L HEMI V-8, but you'll visit your favorite Shell station a little more often than average.
@Archivesman1, No.31, Thank you for your opinion. We agree with you that it is a very nice car. Unfortunately, it is not available in Eastern- and Southern Europe. Why not ?!?
This new Durango looks very promising. I am just now beginning my search for a new SUV, and I will be looking at the Durango, Grand Cherokee, and Explorer. I already have a Pilot, but I don't care for the new ones at all.
its really simple. this is for those who want a 7 seat family car that rides comfortably on the road and also has decent ground clearance and an awd system for when it snows or the weather is bad, and looks the part.
@wavestogood22 I bet you are white who voted for bush 2 time not 1 but 2, If you were a real American you should had bought American made car company like FORD , GM not a Italia company like Dodge Fiat.
The 2011 Ford Explorer get way better mpg then this gas monster Durango.
With a wife, 1 kid, 1 on the way, 2 dogs, and a camper to pull the Durango appeals to me. Not a lot of options for an SUV with much for towing capacity. I have a Ram Hemi now, and love it, but its already tight in there with the family and the dogs...
@MrAlexChryler Hey! No, this is not true. Dodge Durango is one finest vehicle and no one is gonna find one better vehicle for that money. Thank you !!
@MrAlexChryler duhh cuz they are getting rid of it replacing it with a whole new car ... an they did change the caliber on the inside an gave it the new corporate grill now i admit its not the best car they ever made but u have to remember it was just a replacement for the neon
@Marshallnd Yeah, all you have to do is convince millions of ppl that you know what you're talking about, Convince car manufacturers that you should be one of the guys who get to test the new rides, and lastly convince someone to actually pay you to drive them around and judge them.Good luck! ;)
@Marshallnd I, jcaled24, Do here by decree that Marshallnd is THE man to get your vehicle info from!...... No really, if my word counted for anything, I'd be doing it right now! lol
It's 2011, wonder where the Durango's been for the last two years. Well, it toured around Europe, getting hand and steering lessons on those sporty European roads. It went back to school, and got an advanced degree in technology. It's been working out. More muscle and less fat. It's only been two years, and its done more in two years then most cars do in a life time.
@BusinessPrivateNet Because there is Jeep grand Cherokee here in Europe and to sell another vehicle similar to it in Europe where big SUVs aren't sold much is meaningless. PS: here in Europe jeep grand cherokee or similar are considered big suvs.
@dennisjocks90 Thank you Dennis for your opinion. With all due respect this is not true. Maybe in Western Europe the market is saturated (with competing products such as Porsche Cayenne), but in Eastern Europe, in the Balkans and Turkey there is a lot of space for Dodge Durango, not only because it is more comfortable, easier to drive and more simple engineered then your German competitions, but also because it is more fuel-efficient and affordable then the more powerful German competitors.
this durango is more crossover-ish than the previous suv oriented, truck based durango, i didn't think it was ugly, rather, it thought it looked pretty tough, this one looks pretty intimidating too...
@outtava2003 We get 500 miles on our tank. Which with gas at $3.75 here, it costs us about $100 to fill it up and thats if its on E. It also depends on where you live and what kind of driving you are doing. We live in the mountains and for us, to get 22-28 mpg in an SUV of this size is UNREAL lol
I agree the last gen was ugly as hell compared to this but they just had to make it a unibody, which basically means as soon as it gets in an accident the frame is bent and its a write off
It appeals to just about every mother in the US, it's big and seats seven. If she doesn't want a minivan, this is a great choice. It also appeals to the husband as it looks aggressive and can tow. And the journey is pretty much sucks; it has a very tight second row and the third row is non existent with legroom. So yeah no your wrong
@MrFrozenCanuck I have had my Durango for over 2 weeks now and i haven't dipped below 22 mpg and at most had 28 mpg and I live in the mountains!! Best SUV I've owned. Glad I didn't get the Explorer.
This is a amazing suv, how does it feel cheep leather heated or ventilated seats, Alpine sound system, powered sunroof, dvd tv radio navigation. how is it cheap ????

this is a amazing suv, how does it feel cheep leather heated or ventilated seats, alpine sound system, powered sunroof, dvd tv radio navigation. how is it cheap????
It doesnt look bad...However...the rear end looks so similar to the rear end in a Toyota Fortuner (not sold in US) and from the side it looks like a Sequoia.... Front end has some elements from the BMW X series.
The interiors are really good.
This car seems to be just a big car for city or paved road driving only
Third row for the smallest of small children only? I sat in the third row of a Durango at the Portland Auto Show, and I found it adequate, if only just barely so, for my 6'1" frame. The Journey's third row, though, felt like the rear seats in the new Camaro, which is to say, unfit for anyone old enough to talk.
This guy is crazy for wrecking on the last gen of durangos, I love the size of them, they feel like tanks and it think they look good. The new durango looks like every other SUV out there, the acaidia, Saturn outlook, and the new highlander. It just looks generic and tacky. That's why I love the '09 model better, it stands out from the other SUV's.
@BLEEDTHOUBLOOD He isn't crazy for thinking that, he just has a different opinion. The overall consensus of the last Gen Durnango was that is was hideous, which is why they have completely redone the vehicle.
@BLEEDTHOUBLOOD He is not crazy, however I do agree with you, my dad had a 1999 dodge durango which he bought in 2001, he then sold that in 2006for one of the new 2005 durango's with the Hemi and all. It was a beautiful truck even though it was only theSLTmodel. He then found an 09 Durango last year in May which was exactly what he wanted, a Limited with a Hemi. It puts out 50hp more that the previous Hemi and it sounds a lot beefier than the previous one. The Limited Hemi is super rare as well.
@USSWISCONSIN64 It is not in the truck class, if it was then it would be under the Ram brand, I would just rather say truck then SUV, or CUV, or Crossover or whatever, I was just abbreviating. Once again, I believe you are a troll
Got the Durango Express for 31,000 . Love it! I needed the extra space for my growing family. By the way the 3rd row can fit 2 adult men in it. With room to spare!!
seriously why do they keep making fucking camaro...... why over and over.... i know its iconic but what about chevelle and nova really id by a new chevelle or nova over this new garbage aby day but id have to say the dodge challenger was the ONLY!!! good car anyone made and mustang i gettiing more and more ugly bring back the old styles stop making these oval shaped pieces of shit if agreed please reply so maybe they notice and get and idea and do the same we need the old styles back seriously

How do you become a tester? Can I be one at 18? I love driving.
Marshallnd 7 months ago
@Marshallnd Yeah, all you have to do is convince millions of ppl that you know what you're talking about, Convince car manufacturers that you should be one of the guys who get to test the new rides, and lastly convince someone to actually pay you to drive them around and judge them.Good luck! ;)

It's 2011, wonder where the Durango's been for the last two years. Well, it toured around Europe, getting hand and steering lessons on those sporty European roads. It went back to school, and got an advanced degree in technology. It's been working out. More muscle and less fat. It's only been two years, and its done more in two years then most cars do in a life time.
mandunya 7 months ago
Get the new ford explorer!!! :)
oldsmobile98boy 7 months ago
Why is this great car not available in Europe.
BusinessPrivateNet 7 months ago
@BusinessPrivateNet Because there is Jeep grand Cherokee here in Europe and to sell another vehicle similar to it in Europe where big SUVs aren't sold much is meaningless. PS: here in Europe jeep grand cherokee or similar are considered big suvs.
dennisjocks90 7 months ago
@dennisjocks90 Thank you Dennis for your opinion. With all due respect this is not true. Maybe in Western Europe the market is saturated (with competing products such as Porsche Cayenne), but in Eastern Europe, in the Balkans and Turkey there is a lot of space for Dodge Durango, not only because it is more comfortable, easier to drive and more simple engineered then your German competitions, but also because it is more fuel-efficient and affordable then the more powerful German competitors.
BusinessPrivateNet 7 months ago 3
@BusinessPrivateNet Yeah that it's true...it would be a good idea to sell it with the VM 3.0 V6 diesel.

this durango is more crossover-ish than the previous suv oriented, truck based durango, i didn't think it was ugly, rather, it thought it looked pretty tough, this one looks pretty intimidating too...

Finally its got a sporty front end , for years they were the UGLYEST.

@outtava2003 We get 500 miles on our tank. Which with gas at $3.75 here, it costs us about $100 to fill it up and thats if its on E. It also depends on where you live and what kind of driving you are doing. We live in the mountains and for us, to get 22-28 mpg in an SUV of this size is UNREAL lol
ashley22d 8 months ago
soon as you buy it the tranny will drop out
2004acurarsx 8 months ago
I agree the last gen was ugly as hell compared to this but they just had to make it a unibody, which basically means as soon as it gets in an accident the frame is bent and its a write off
Brendon00000 8 months ago
It appeals to just about every mother in the US, it's big and seats seven. If she doesn't want a minivan, this is a great choice. It also appeals to the husband as it looks aggressive and can tow. And the journey is pretty much sucks; it has a very tight second row and the third row is non existent with legroom. So yeah no your wrong
somthingjonas 8 months ago
@somthingjonas it appeals to my asshole

I preffer the Explorer 2011.... At least it still have the Terrain Selector system and it iis way more fuel efficient.
wtrdogg20 9 months ago

MrMatty1993 10 months ago
This guy is crazy for wrecking on the last gen of durangos, I love the size of them, they feel like tanks and it think they look good. The new durango looks like every other SUV out there, the acaidia, Saturn outlook, and the new highlander. It just looks generic and tacky. That's why I love the '09 model better, it stands out from the other SUV's.
BLEEDTHOUBLOOD 10 months ago
@BLEEDTHOUBLOOD He isn't crazy for thinking that, he just has a different opinion. The overall consensus of the last Gen Durnango was that is was hideous, which is why they have completely redone the vehicle.
deej1323 10 months ago
@BLEEDTHOUBLOOD He is not crazy, however I do agree with you, my dad had a 1999 dodge durango which he bought in 2001, he then sold that in 2006for one of the new 2005 durango's with the Hemi and all. It was a beautiful truck even though it was only theSLTmodel. He then found an 09 Durango last year in May which was exactly what he wanted, a Limited with a Hemi. It puts out 50hp more that the previous Hemi and it sounds a lot beefier than the previous one. The Limited Hemi is super rare as well.
Phanndango 10 months ago
@Phanndango how is the durango a truck. it is not a truck. its more of a minivan and SUV all together. its not a truck. a Ram 3500 is a truck.
USSWISCONSIN64 10 months ago
@USSWISCONSIN64 Okay, fair point, but was the comment really necessary troll?
Phanndango 9 months ago
@Phanndango no that wasn't. that's what i think of the Durango. i don't think they should have in the truck class.
USSWISCONSIN64 9 months ago
@USSWISCONSIN64 It is not in the truck class, if it was then it would be under the Ram brand, I would just rather say truck then SUV, or CUV, or Crossover or whatever, I was just abbreviating. Once again, I believe you are a troll
Phanndango 9 months ago
@Phanndango that is your opinion though. ok i have mine you have yours.
