@misscarly12 .......Frankly I havnt slept in the last 40 hrs......reason being an assignment deadline......so I dont have much of a mind left at the moment......hence that balls no balls coment.
Serpico just did his first interview in years on the Alex Jones show. He talks about military drug trafficking, institutionalized corruption, and his views about the official 9/11 story.
I swear I love Al Pacino so much. I just can't get over how his voice changed over the years. His voice in this movie sometimes sounds like a DUCK. lol.. like the sound -kwaek -- kwaek --
I jsut saw on DVD Serpico and All the President's Men. Al Pacino and Dustin Hoffman have similar acting styles and intensity. Have these two ever been paired in a film? Anyone?
Sidney Lumet was a amazing film director. The world lost one of the most talented and most creative people we have. We also love his movies in Germany but I think the whole world loved him.
@unrewritable It's a great movie but it's mostly performance based. If it wasn't for Pacino's superb performance as Serpico it wouldn't have been as good. It's a very good story though and it kept me very interested throughout the movie. I recommend it.
@unrewritable THIS MOVIE IS BASED ON A TRUE STORY ABOUT CORRUPTION IN THE NEW YORK CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT-DEFINATELY WORTH WATCHING-EXCELLANT PERFORMANCE BY AL PACINO
can someone who saw this movie tell me if it's worth watching? i mean, obvious it's al pacino, so i have no doubt he will play his role amazing....but the movie, the plot, is it good?
Currently reading the book, and I'm having trouble believing that such a large number of police officers (the majority of thirty some thousand, right?) would accept bribes.
@Kellzofligin The first question that should be asked of you is: Do you think its wrong to steal money from criminals, making large sums of money illegitimately, to feed cloth and shelter your family? Then you have your answer to your seemingly impossible question. Anything can be rationalized - even a culture of corruption.
Looks like a kickass movie. gotta feel bad for Serpico. If iwas out trying to put dirtbags away and getting shit from "fellow officers," i'd like to carry a pievce with a 14 round clip as well.
I don't really know what all the fighting on here is about but I for one would like to say that Serpico is awesome and it's one of my favorite Sidney Lumet films, next to 12 Angry Men and Dog Day Afternoon. I just thought it might make sense to say that on the trailer for the film rather than bitching about unrelated things. But hey, maybe that's just me.
@tyzhen "it is telling a story for an arrogant and stupid prick, presented as a hero." and your knowledge of the man himself come's from where?
Why not that theme tune ? maybe the fact that as he was the child of Italian Italian immigrants, They thought it would be suitable? I certainly do! . You seem to have such a desire to 'dis-respect' the guy without any substance to your remarks that maybe you should take a trip to New York State and say it to his face!
@Rioghal10 To spend so much money and so much time to go to New York just to tell an idiot that he is an idiot? As if he doesn`t know it.
About the tune : yes, I know he`s Italian, not a Chinese, but the fact is that the tune as A MOOD doesn`t fit the mood of the movie. But I don`t blame you that you didn`t understand that - after all one should have some certain level of cinematic culture to get into such subtleties. It is far easier to make idols out of crap.
Why is that soundtrack that has nothing to do with the film topic? We hear a signature Italian melody as if the movie focused on the Italo-American mentality, life, etc. But what was so "indispensably Italian" here except the name of the guy? The movie could be named "Sanchez" or "O`Brian" and still make no difference at all.
Judging by Serpico`s outlook and lifestyle the soundtrack had to be some cocaine-driven excuse of a music by Jimmy Hendrix, "Doors" or some other musical "genii".
If "Serpico" wanted to tell about the cop corruption, then why did we need the whole shit about his personal life like ballet lessons, "dog pissing from a gondola"-parties, voyeur windows, etc? Because the movie didn`t care about corruption: all it wanted was a 1960-70s pseudo-rebel image to fool the audience how "bad" and "boring" is the traditional moral and common sense, but how "nice" and "cool" is to be a pseudo-free, sectarian smart-ass who was disliked even by non-corrupted cops.
The real aim of "Serpico" wasn`t to attack the police corruption. The movie was just pushing hard to get the applause of the drugged, lazy, ungrateful for anything and insolent to everything 1970s hippie youth.
Just look at the whole Woodstock-style idiotic premise: the police (= state, order, law) are just "criminals with badges"; but a hippie with a badge who didn`t search for the IAD, D.A. office or the FBI (=again state, order, law) is "Mr Great".
@EdwardBaby100 It was really unfair. They had to blow his brains off instead of leaving him to stay alive and get away.
Serpico pretended to be "a knight", but he was just a stinking hippie, who -like all other hippies -just wanted "to be important". He never made friends because he was always a "smart-ass".
Of course,I don`t defend police corruption.
But the movie is not telling a story against police corruption; it is telling a story for an arrogant and stupid prick, presented as a hero.
@tyzhen You are certainly a veritable fount of information and opinion, aren't you. Serpico is all about honor and decency, two attributes it is painfully obvious you know nothing about. As to arrogance and stupidity, those are characteristics you yourself possess. And of course, you do defend police corruption, something you must know first hand.
Your own arrogance and stupidty know no bounds, as is evident by all your comments. Whatever is driving you, you need to get professional help.
@skylur44 I would say that you are the one who needs professional help but as no doctor still offers brain injecting your case is helpless..
As for me - the only help that I need is finding some more people like me who use their heads for thinking instead of for wearing earrings on their noses.
About honor, decency, etc - when did you learn these words? Five minutes ago while tearing pages from the dictionary in the toilet because the toilet paper had finished, you stinking degenerate?
@skylur44 I didn`t know that handling a gun was explained in the manual "100 advices for imbeciles` every day behavior". But after all I have never read that manual, because I never needed it; while you always carry it`s pocket-size edition in you.
@tyzhen "...pocket-size edition in you?" I think you mean WITH you. I see your education level is somewhere down in the early grammar school area, so let's just leave things as they are; suffice to say re a battle of wits I make it a rule never to fight an unarmed opponent.
Twenty years ago, I drove a cab in NYC and Al Pacino was one of my passengers.. I rarely chatted with celebrities in my taxi, but I made an exception with Al. I told him that Serpico was one of the best movies I ever saw. He told me that all his friends thought it was his best film. He was friendly and a very good tipper.
@Shopmyst I am very glad to read this. I have been lent Serpico on DVD to watch tonight, by an Al Pacino fan. I have not yet seen any Al Pacino films but I thought this one might help me to understand Jersey politics. I am an institutional child abuse survivor and a friend of ex Senator Stuart Syvret.
I would give him Oscar for most of his films but Revolution and Bobby Deerfield however this Pollack film is not bad. also his performance in Cruising is not bad at all.

Who else could have played the Shelley Winters role in Poseiden Adventure better than her? What's your point. Look, I worship Al Pacino but objectively speaking ANY one of the other four nominees that year was more worthy of the Oscar. It was Al's misfortune to be among excellent co-nominees in 73 thru 75, which I'm sure you will agree was a mini golden era for male actors. I'm happy Al has his Oscar just like Paul Newman. I'm sure Newman would trade Color of Money for HUD though.
@tbreez712 well frank you son of a bitch, your damn right the cat out ranks you, he's a special agent, are you a special agents….. hey there guy, I will jam you up,
Corruption also is even today an only much too present evil in the international police work. Sidney Lumet got in 1973 to turn a nearly biodocumentary masterpiece with the disclosure history in this thing of real Frank Serpico. For me Al Pacino in this role created a masterpiece. Just in this time the German private television broadcasting station cable 1 sends again the film. 5 stars from Germany.
A lot of positive comments for the movie, the music, Al Pacino, Sidney Lumet etc. Without knowing what the hell anyone has done in life, all I can say is that this movie made an impact on me. So too with a fellow named Simon Illingworth in Australia. Very similar story and in my view, has gone one better by not leaving the state where he was assigned a beat and kept it for 16 years. He doesn't work the front lines any more but he is active in preventing corruption. He was king hit at
one stage. Had death threats to himself and his family. Has put the fire up my arse to remain active. If you do no more than give me the thumbs up or verbalise your agreement, I think you have missed the point. These issues are living, breathing conceptions. Its difficult to fight is it? Isn't it more difficult not to????? Actions define one's life and its what we all have to face up to every day and every moment that we live. All the best to everyone. May the best of everything shine on us all.
@bendutta2008 LOVE THAT SHOW!! Huge Fan of Always Sunny. Got me to run out and buy this movie. Charlie is THE SHIT!! He did that soo well lmaoo. By the looks of it, Charlie is a big fan of Al Pacino.
you should be proud of Billy Zane, Costas Mandylor, The batchelorette, lots of greeks in north america have done well through hard work, but my greek-canadian friends hate when greek-americans change their last names... i can understand that
As the movie says, Serpico ended up skipping the country. He made a contribution greater than 95% of the police force combined. That is eternal. The thing is though, his contribution stopped when he left. First step for any of us is to match what he did. That is the very definition of living rather than dying.
He had to skip. After his testimonial, he was most definitely a marked man. How can you do your job when your own co-workers are out to kill you? A lot of people would call him a rat; I would call it having MAJOR BALLS. But what are you gonna do? Being bad has always been much easier that being good. All you gotta do is give in to human nature and thats what most people do. In the memorable words of Harvey Dent : "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain."
First, more for my own sake than anything else, I want to make it clear that my comment was and is in no way, shape or form, an attempt to cast Serpico as someone to demean or denigrate.
Second, I think you and I are to a significant extent on the same wavelength here. Do you agree that his contribution sends a positive signal to all of us?
Third, I write a stand alone comment after this. I'm not on a campaign here but if one person stops to think for a split-second,its good.
WE BELIEVE IN SERPICO. Much as we do in harvey dent... before he gave in to the madness. that's the thing about modern epics, the ability to associate morals and values and struggles with one film character even one quote.
great film, good man, awful misplaced soundrack.

Anagrams and paraphrasing, as Italians can say that we have had many "Persico" (mafia boss), and, fortunately, some Serpico!

if this is an actual trailer for this movie, then people sucked at making previews back then.

In my opinion, the best Al Pacino performance I've ever seen was in this movie.
AntonioE07 2 years ago
I agree.
"Its my life!!! Its my life you dumb fuck!!!"
As the movie says, Serpico ended up skipping the country. He made a contribution greater than 95% of the police force combined. That is eternal. The thing is though, his contribution stopped when he left. First step for any of us is to match what he did. That is the very definition of living rather than dying.
LogicHead 2 years ago
He had to skip. After his testimonial, he was most definitely a marked man. How can you do your job when your own co-workers are out to kill you? A lot of people would call him a rat; I would call it having MAJOR BALLS. But what are you gonna do? Being bad has always been much easier that being good. All you gotta do is give in to human nature and thats what most people do. In the memorable words of Harvey Dent : "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain."
AntonioE07 2 years ago
AntonioE07,
First, more for my own sake than anything else, I want to make it clear that my comment was and is in no way, shape or form, an attempt to cast Serpico as someone to demean or denigrate.
Second, I think you and I are to a significant extent on the same wavelength here. Do you agree that his contribution sends a positive signal to all of us?
Third, I write a stand alone comment after this. I'm not on a campaign here but if one person stops to think for a split-second,its good.
LogicHead 2 years ago
WE BELIEVE IN SERPICO. Much as we do in harvey dent... before he gave in to the madness. that's the thing about modern epics, the ability to associate morals and values and struggles with one film character even one quote.
