@evangelion8091 The official UCGO server? No. It's closed down for good. Unless some miracle happens and Bandai/DIMPS decides to try it again, the official UCGO server will never return.

If you're referring to the "Titans Server" emulator, that I have no idea about. Last I saw about it the emulator was in hiatus, and it was unknown when or if the project would be continued. However, that's all I know about it at this point, I haven't really been following it much lately.

@Maple1Pirate No, it isn't. UCGO was an actual MMORPG that did exist a few years back. It was run by Bandai and DIMPS. It required an initial purchase (before it was available for download later) and a monthly fee to play.

The command to get out of a machine, if I remember correctly, is /getoff. I think. Or /leave perhaps...

As for not being able to purchase, do you have enough $EF (money) to purchase? Are you purchasing from the correct faction? Federation can't buy from Zeon shops and vice-versa.

Also, assuming you're on the Titans-Server, they might not have the shops working yet, so that's another possibility. It's been a while since I was on there myself so I don't know what is and isn't working yet.

@nelsonsims You controlled a mobile suit, vehicle and your character with the keyboard-- ASWD or arrow keys. The space bar was used to jump, and the mouse was used to aim and fire weapons, shift to run or walk depending on how you set that option. All keyboard keys could be remapped.

In-game currency ($EF) was used to purchase or craft vehicles, MS, weapons, ammunition, clothing and other items. To get into a machine you double-clicked on it, to get out you typed in a command.

@UnclePutte Not that I noticed. In fact, it seemed quite the opposite. At least during my play most of the Japanese community was quite friendly and helpful. Despite problems that did arise a couple times, most of the Japanese community always remained friendly and understanding. It was probably the most friendly MMO community I've ever been a part of.

There were some trouble-makers, yes, but they exist everywhere. For the most part I saw no racism (at least none I could understand, anyway).

DIMPs didn't give any reasons why. Most likely because of dropping subscription rates. Not to mention the server was constantly having problems with stability so maybe they no longer wished to take the time to constantly tweak the server, or it got too expensive to do so.

When I first made this video I was fairly new to UCGO so I didn't know my way around too well and was still discovering things. I had intended to make another video with footage from in-game events, new MS, the new cities, et cetera, but the official server shut down before I got around to it. I might be tempted to do another video once the Titans Server is up... perhaps. I have a better video program as well, which should help, as this video was only made with Movie Maker.

But as for translating it... I know they're attempting to translate parts of the game, but whether or not they'll do the entire thing I have no idea.

It isn't hard to figure things out, though. The HUD was entirely in English already, and everything else was pretty self to figure out.

Bandai and DIMPS never really gave any reasons why; they just said it was closing down.

But I'd wager that the game just wasn't all that popular anymore-- there really wasn't much to do in UCGO. Not to mention that the server was very unstable and was constantly going down and losing data (so players would lose all the work they'd done for the past few hours or even a day, on an all too frequent basis).

I just think it was a bigger project than DIMPS had imagined, and could no longer handle it.

I really wouldn't say World of Warcraft has good graphics... They're not horrible, but they're not all that good either. They're mediocre at best, but that's how they were designed to look... Simplistic.

No, the client was never updated to be completely English. Much of the UI, however, was already in English so it wasn't too difficult to figure out. The only things that were in Japanese were the options menu (which was easy enough to figure out), and NPC quest text (which quests were pretty much useless anyway). And, of course, the players usually tended to type in Japanese.

There is an emulator currently in the works called the "Titans Server", which will supposedly have an English option. However, it's unknown when (if ever) that it will be finished.

Sure, SEED wasn't good, but, luckily, 00 turned out to be pretty damn awesome. Similarly, Sonic had gotten pretty iffy, but SatSR was a sign of recovery, and they're really getting back in the funk now. While popularity is not an indicator of quality, not everything has to be past its prime. Sometimes they just go through rough patches like Gundam and Sonic did. This is an old comment, of course, so I'm just responding retrospectively.

Cockpit view was available back in early beta, along with countless other pretty awesome features that never made it into the official launch.

And no, you couldn't use a joystick as far as I know. Just the mouse and keyboard.

Yes, it is free. However you had to have an account already before it became free. In other words, a new account cannot be created. I didn't know that before.

Well, one of UCGO's downfalls is that there isn't a whole lot of content in the game. Mostly you just fight the enemy, be it a player or an NPC. There are some various quests from NPCs, but they don't really do much for you other than give you a free item or two.

Good luck with signing up, though. I don't think you can create new accounts anymore.

To register now you must have a keycode from the boxed game disc set available in stores. Sorry, I don't have one.

I'm unsure if you'll still need to buy the boxed set to register when the game is free for everyone in November. I haven't heard much about that yet.

You can join either the Earth Federation or the Principality of Zeon. The game is open PvP, meaning PvP combat can happen any time, any where. You'll be fighting NPCs and players throughout the game.

All I can say is "maybe". At one point while it was still in beta it was going to be released in the US (in fact the UCGO website had a section in English). Later that changed and they weren't, than they started thinking about it again. So I'm not sure now.

I heard that "Mobile Ops"/"Mobile Suit Gundam: Operation Troy" for the Xbox 360 is being designed to test the waters for a Gundam MMO in the US. However, I'm not sure how true that is, it's only a rumor.

You can buy stock mobile suits (and other machines) from the machine shop, but they just have a basic engine and no upgrades. Or you can have them crafted, with whatever engine you want, and have it upgraded. Some MS can only be crafted too (like the Gundam, Ez-8 and Full Armor Gundam).

There is no English version of UCGO, only the Japanese client. Much of the game is in English, however.

Yes, the UI is in English, as is most of the game. The only parts of the game in Japanese are the text from NPCs and some pop-up messages. And, of course, most of the player base speaks in Japanese as well.

UCGO is not free, it costs roughly $13.50 a month or $34.50 every three months.
