Has Subaru ever fixed the brittle gears of the WRX transaxle yet ? My transaxle in my '06 WRX that I purchased new in Dallas broke TWICE in less than 18K miles and one year old before I traded it for another make of performance car, and I am on my third new car(BMW 3series coupe)since then. Subaru would not cover it under warranty($6K cost), so they lost a customer for life, or at least several new car purchases.
@raising1987 the wrx isn't meant for any sort of heavy acceleration, a main difference between the wrx and the sti is the tranny is beefed up to take the punishment in the sti.

Sorry, but the new Evo, like it or not, on a track will have an edge. Dirt or Pavement, with equal drivers. Outside of such though, it's a toss-up as the cars are so close. No need to hate on either car, just be glad we have cars like this available to us.

@J3tal that squealing noise is caused because on a really rough circuit like that, pebbles and other debris gets caught between the brake pad and disc, so when you hit the brakes, the debris scrapes the disc until it is gone. on really rally cars, if i am not mistaken, the wheels/brakes are designed to block out the debris, but i don't know for sure, so don't quote me on that bit/
This WRX STI has lost all of its bad boy looks. Looks like a regular hatchback, with an air scoop on the bonnet. It's fat, the wheels look lost in those arches. This WRX STI may be faster but the old one was fast and it looked cool. The equivalent EVO X version is a better choice.

Sorry, the hatchback looks better, and the 04-07 models look even better. Subaru brought back the sedan because everyone complaint about the hatchback. So, what did they do? They just put two more doors and the wing behind a hatchhack. It just don't look right. They should've redesigned the whole new body. Please don't get me wrong. I like the new STI but I think the old ones are better especially the 04-05 models will always be a WRC legend.
@ljguy300Ford has. and a WRC car is not a stock car in any way, every part and body panel has been swapped out for lighter or stronger. I used to own a 2005 STi, one of the best cars I ever had but it sure as hell was not made for any off roading in any way shape or form!
Back then the wrx had a different motor too, aluminum suspension, sodium filled exhaust valves, better gearing for the track, lighter weight, no traction control or any of that crap and better tires.

The suspension on the STI better be revised......it is after all the same suspension found on the Legacy which is built to be a comfortable car not a sports car. I'm not pleased at all with the 2008 - 2011 Impreza's. They are nothing more than a Legacy with different sheet metal, not the "rally bred" cars they were. If you want a true rally bred Impreza then you have to get a 2007 or older. If you want a shortened Legacy than by all means buy an 08 on up Impreza. I call BS on Subie!

The engine is the same bottom end. The pistons for instance are the SAME part number between the WRX and STI. The turbo's are almost identical other than the slight housing change. The power ability of the turbo is the same. Suspension is almost the same, spring rates in the back, or the front (cant remember which one) are the same as WRX.
Its really is not worth the $30,000 AUD difference we get in Australia. ($75K vs $48K for the WRX in AUS)

I am really getting sick of Subaru lately, especially from the time they are joined with toyota. They keep on facelifting every other year but no improvements in powerplants. They are still using the same powerplant for ages ( with a 5hp improvement WOW) now while keeping themselves busy making a new coupe for toyota (they wouldnt have gotten into this mess if they aren't selling that stupid scion model under subaru brand in JDM). I guess Subaru has lost it grounds.
@alfistasubbie They will be making the subaru version to the ft86 which they still aren't sure if they are going to run awd or rwd. They are working on a diesel engine, and a new version of the 2.5 which most likely will be direct injection. Oh and on top of that they are building a stronger version of the cvt transmission that will be offered in the 6 cylinders and turbo models. What you seem to forget is that they have to make progress and comply with the mpg quota. So they have to make change
I'm glad they brought back the sedan. That hatchback is hideous! Long live the sedan! It's been the icon of the Impreza since day one. If it ain't broken don't fix it. The hatchback was a drawback from the lad GDB what was made. It's suspension was horrible too. I think they did the right thing in bringing the sedan back. The Rear Differential is a TORSEN Differential, not a limited slip. I have 2010 STI and the rear diff is no joke. Look it up!

Back then the wrx had a different motor too, aluminum suspension, sodium filled exhaust valves, better gearing for the track, lighter weight, no traction control or any of that crap and better tires.

The suspension on the STI better be revised......it is after all the same suspension found on the Legacy which is built to be a comfortable car not a sports car. I'm not pleased at all with the 2008 - 2011 Impreza's. They are nothing more than a Legacy with different sheet metal, not the "rally bred" cars they were. If you want a true rally bred Impreza then you have to get a 2007 or older. If you want a shortened Legacy than by all means buy an 08 on up Impreza. I call BS on Subie!

yah but i feel like it's not worth bying a wrx unless its an sti.. besides.. mustangs are n/a engine.. and soo many things can go wrong with turbos and they just end up costing you more in a long run.. mustang prob gets a lot better millage.. but idk the winters are brutal and you cant rely on rwd car

This car is not that different to a WRX, sorry.
The engine is the same bottom end. The pistons for instance are the SAME part number between the WRX and STI. The turbo's are almost identical other than the slight housing change. The power ability of the turbo is the same. Suspension is almost the same, spring rates in the back, or the front (cant remember which one) are the same as WRX.
Its really is not worth the $30,000 AUD difference we get in Australia. ($75K vs $48K for the WRX in AUS)

I am really getting sick of Subaru lately, especially from the time they are joined with toyota. They keep on facelifting every other year but no improvements in powerplants. They are still using the same powerplant for ages ( with a 5hp improvement WOW) now while keeping themselves busy making a new coupe for toyota (they wouldnt have gotten into this mess if they aren't selling that stupid scion model under subaru brand in JDM). I guess Subaru has lost it grounds.

@alfistasubbie They will be making the subaru version to the ft86 which they still aren't sure if they are going to run awd or rwd. They are working on a diesel engine, and a new version of the 2.5 which most likely will be direct injection. Oh and on top of that they are building a stronger version of the cvt transmission that will be offered in the 6 cylinders and turbo models. What you seem to forget is that they have to make progress and comply with the mpg quota. So they have to make change

I'm glad they brought back the sedan. That hatchback is hideous! Long live the sedan! It's been the icon of the Impreza since day one. If it ain't broken don't fix it. The hatchback was a drawback from the lad GDB what was made. It's suspension was horrible too. I think they did the right thing in bringing the sedan back. Let those that have no taste purchase the hatchback until they're all gone and stop making those ugly things! LOL
