  • 2:06 is classic!!!!

  • terrible quality, terrible sync. Why bother if you're going to screw up a great scene from a great movie? And it's far from being a "trailer".

  • People actually liked this film? i found it terrible lol, so embarrasingly hollywood-irish

  • i live in a town called Tuam in Ireland, where they filimed part of this movie :) And i only live 20 minutes away from where they filimed the rest of the film.:)

  • @imaisling Must be beautiful.

  • @imaisling Just come back from Cong and done the Quite man tour. I will die a happy man now me and my mate Ken. A simply wonderfull film And place with lovely people. Ron Jury.

  • E.T. see this scene in the TV!

  • I love how in this movie, John Wayne does this thing, he lights a match on his shoe, really dramatically takes out a cigarette really dramatically and take two puffs of it and throws it away.

  • I adore this movie. Gives me the warm fuzzies every time I watch it.

  • Is this even a trailer? Its the worst thing ever lol.

  • This trailer does notin for the movie the movie is just brill between the horse only stoppping at the pub and not going any further the bishop betting and the 2 boys and the big fight sceen is the best ever..!!!

  • Excellent film, one that can be watched over and over again. Does Innisfree actually exist? I can find Castletown on Google maps but not Innisfree.

  • ong, the real "Castletown" is in Co Mayo, and it is almost exactly the same now as it was in 1951 when the film was made. The fictional villages of both "Innisfree" and "Castletown" are in fact two locations within Cong and are only about 100 yards apart! The location of the "White o' morn" cottage is about 23km away but is now little more than pile of stones, very sad. The stepping across the stream to the cottage are still there, as is the little bridge to the left side of the cottage!

  • @Newsystem10

Yes, there's a tiny island in the middle of a lake (not sure the name of the lake or the county) but it's much too small to build a town on. But it's a very beautiful spot. Hope to go there on my next visit to Ireland...For everyone: If you have the opportunity to go to Ireland, GO!!!!

  • @Newsystem10

There's a famous island called Innisfree in the middle of a lake in Ireland (not sure which county, or the name of the lake. I'll get back on that.) But the island is probably too small to build a town upon. But, even though I didn't get to visit it this summer when I went to Ireland (obviously!), it's supposed to be a lovely spot, almost romantic, in a sense.

But for everyone: if you ever have the chance to go to Ireland...GO!!!

  • I love this movie. I can watch it anytime, and for a movie, that is what is important. All the actors did a great job,and John Ford, really put his heart into this movie. I feel bad for people if this really offended you,but it is just a movie. Let me check that, a wonderful movie.

  • Im irish and love this movie...

  • good, thanks for that I'm scottish and wondered if maybe if some Irish would be slightly anti....I'd be ecstatic if it had been set in Scotland. The film "Whisky Galore" is not bad.

    "Merquis of Queensbury now!"

  • God, do I love this movie. I am sorry if some feel it is an insult to the Irish. If anything, it makes me want to know the country and their traditions even more. But then again, I am just a Yank. To me, it is more of an insult to women. The way John treats Maureen is most likely abuse by today's standards, but I love the line that Barry says to Maureen '"don't be hitting him until he is your husband and he can hit you back" This is a wonderful movie and I never thought of it as racist.

  • I love seeing my home land. A movie is proberly the closest I am going to get. I was brought up with all the irish music and all the things that go with it. My kin come from County Cork. My grandparents went over to Ireland to see where their parents were born. I am glad they got to go. We watch this movie every year and make corned beef and cabbage and Irish soda bread. When I lived in New York we saw the parade in Yonkers. I am proud to be Irish. I am proud of my name

  • Now 2 start the debate...

    Who was the quiet man???

  • Btw, I love this movie and I idolize John Wayne. :3

  • It's 1952, being politically correct was nearly unheard of :/ Anyways, we know that Ireland isn't really like this, but we like the idea of this kind of place. That's what movies are for. This really wasn't made to insult.

  • So all the Irish actors in it were sell-outs? Maybe Ireland back in the 1950's in the rural areas was a bit diffrent than your life? There are plenty of American movies from this era that have farms, drunkeness, fighting (and kindly Irishman character) and we aren't up in arms.

  • i'm not talking about how life was, i'm simply pointing out that this depiction has been going on forever and is still used while other stereotypes are considered offensive, you're saying i shouldnt be offended by a group of american film makers making their impression of irish lifestyle, that i should just let it slide?, why so you can feel more comfortable watching this?. and it's not the look of how they live, it's their potrayel i have a problem with.

  • Cologey, if you are going to walk around with a chip on your shoulder somone is going to eventually knock it off I suppose, I am just telling you, complaining about a movie from 1952 not being up to your standards of political corectness seems rather futile. I grant you Americans often have an innacurate perception of Ireland (which will be front and center here with St. Patrick's Day comming up.) The reasons for this have little to do with this film though.

  • your right. i dont mean to be all bitter. it's just frustrating to see a negative potrayel of people celebrated. and i'm irish too so there's the extra kick. sorry if i came off like a dick-head.

  • Hi Cologey ...its actually afair point ... true its also a real riot of a film. i'm scottish and would die for it to have been set here!

I'm an old communist but much as i hate John Wayne's politics I find him fascinating and he can really act. Check out all the Wayne McLaglen Ford movies.

The Searchers is my movie of all time.

  • Great movie. He treats her like property

  • I agree, this is one of the great films of all time (and certainly my favorite JW film).

  • is this a scari movie.....

  • ¡¡¡QUE GRANDE ES EL CINE!!!!

  • No one makes films like this anymore...

    This film OWNS! :D

  • Dittos! Tell me just how much computer animation there is in this film or any other John Ford film. Ford knew how to get the most out of his actors and the scenery around him. This guy was a true patriot, also. I won't watch any junk coming out of Hollywood today because all they want to do is point out the depravity of man, not the good in him. Until they figure that out, they won't get my money.

  • This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's great in every aspect. The story, the characters, the acting, the beautiful, stunning Oscar winning fotography (Winton C. Hoch) and so much more. Attention to the race at the beach scene, to the fight sequence and... A movie like this is what makes me dream and still love cinema. It doesn't matter if it is from the 1950's. It's intrinsic quality is timeless. And, of course, Maureen O'Hara was a beautiful woman.

  • They can never remake THIS movie. All the actors were perfect in their roles!

  • its becoz of dis film dat americans tink irish ppl talk lik lepracáns

nobody in ireland talks lik dey do in dis film

  • Its true. no one in Ireland speaks like this. Begorra begorra!

  • Is it wrong to think of Maureen O'Hara as hot? I mean, she's old enough to be my Grandmama, but if I put myself as I am now a 28 year old guy, in that timeframe and the world of the movie, it don't seem wrong to what to smooch that lady some.

  • Dude...nothing wrong with that! I her prime she was a good looking girl! Heck, look at marilyn monroe..she was a babe and she'd be like 90 if she was still alive!

  • She IS still alive! She will be 89 next year :-)

  • she looks great to this day. a truly beautiful woman.

  • perhaps the greates movie of all time
