  • 'Principal 2nd violinist' - Pahahaha

  • @Swiftbollocks

First violins aren't the best violinists, they just have different roles...

  • @franciscomasia2: not true... nothing more to say!

  • This is unfortunately very dull. Please talk more about the music. This is what unifies creative people and drives them to technical perfection.

  • @SpectrumConcerts I would suggest more practice and studying and it will be rather very good, then very dull... I would also suggest to lower your nose down, it helps tremendously in learning how to play violin...

  • this shit is not useful

looks like they all want to show how prominent they are and how miles below all the rest are

  • i'd love to learn to play the violin

  • ii play violin and im 12 years old. Ive been playing since i was 5 and i LOVE it! ..

  • im 12 and i've been playing since i was 12 :D

    lol seriously...

gratz :P wish i started that early...though i guess you dont remember too much?idk, just saying,i dont remember what i did when i was 5 o_O

  • anyone notice his bowing is different from the 1st violin master class?

  • his bowing would probably be better for a section to play cleanly.

  • i guess it depends on which one you would rather prefer

  • it's all contrast.

  • in the cello master class, mr blayden said that the whole string section changed the bowing to something else.

the bowing mr grach here uses is the same one as the one in the cello master class.

however, the bowings in the first violin master class is different, and the viola master class uses the same bowing as the one given on the music.

i would go with this bowing. hope this helps (:

  • hello maestro...thanks for the information......i just wanted to ask you what violin do you use???looks like an antique Italian violin..

  • this video's audio isn't very good. it's like kind of soft.

  • i realllly wanna be a part of this thing but im only a grade 3 and you guys are like grade 7-8, plus im only a kid

  • hey, all ages are welcome no matter how young lol

  • actually, the contest is only for ages 14 and up...sorry ^-^

  • huh, i didn't know that

  • Oh an another inconsistency...

What should be the general tuning? A=440 or A=442?

Recent orchestras tend to tune for A=442, and sometimes even higher... But here, tuning is not mentioned in any text or partition and should be cleared.

I'm sure the tech guys could fix "2 Hertz" with a software such as Protools or Cubase easily but it wouldn't be professional, as this project seems.

Wanna accomplish a quality job, then do it right...

  • Hi, I want to point out something.

My instrument is flute. (I've been playing for 10 years and have experience in conducting)When I compared the conductors score with the flute pariton, there were some major errors, such as a phrase on the conductors score between measures 16-21 is missing on the flute paritition. (By the way flutes are clearly cued at those measures in the practice video)

I want to know if any of you came across with similar errors in violin parititons?

    Thanks, Kerem

  • Just getting an idea, what level are you guys at? How many years have you been playing Violin?

  • hey everyone

when we submit do we play w/ sound or only by ourselves? as in w/ the orchestra or only the conductor

    thx

  • You must play by your self, because when they put them together, they only want your sound.

  • thx!

  • This may seem like a silly question, but do we begin the audition at measure 29 itself? Or should we play through the beginning bit as well? :)

  • 13. im playing my first audition piece, allegro by fiocco. it's so hard...

  • I hope one day there will be a lower-graded internet symphony. As a grade 5 violinist I got a little excited then realised that this isn't actually for 'everyone'. Still, I do wish everyone the very best and look forward to listening to the final performance next year with a particular ear for the violins. :)

  • Notice that the first and second violins use different bowings on the rhythmic passage!

  • i'm confused,, the list says 1st mvt

but i think he's talking about 4th mvt (brahms)

  • Where is the list of public domain pieces on which one also has to audition? Can anyone post a link?

  • if you go to prepare, it will go to what you need to prepare for video one. there is a link that says video two, and thats where the pub. domain pieces are. I had trouble finding them at first also.

  • Thanks so much!

  • You're welcome! Good luck! let me know how things are going!

  • you actually have to purchase the music yourself, or just don't submit one. You can still be selected for the virtual orchestra if u don't submit 2nd piece, but you just can't go to Carnegie to perform

  • I already have my music. The other person was asking where to find the list of pieces.

  • how old do u hav to be to audition? i'm only 12

  • sorry, u have to be 14 buy december 1, 2008 to audition.

  • Hey Violin 2 auditioners let's figure out a way to support each other as we learn this piece!

  • The bowing for the opening Allegro is different from the bowing suggested in Violin I. Have Violin I and II decided which way to bow these notes?

  • I noticed that too, and now I'm confused about which bowing will be expected. I guess I'll just try it both ways and see what works best. (I was practicing it a different way than both of the other suggestions and it still worked out.)

  • I want to do 2nd violin!

  • he talks to much

  • agreed, and the audio is awful.

But I need to watch this vid, lol

  • its kinda sad how no one wants to do 2nd violin =/

  • im auditioning for 2nd are you auditioning? isnt this exciting?

  • I'll audition for 2nd's with you!

Everybody always overlooks the 2nd's. But we're an integral part of the orchestra!

  • ya i like hearing second part because it's adds the harmony to the sound....it sucks that seconds have the reputation of being the rejects or the not good enough group...sooo not true

  • same here!

  • Exactly, we anchor the first violins, without us they would be lost. Well maybe, it really depends more on the composers style.

  • wow... i just watched the other video with him speaking a different language.... this is much better for me lol

  • heh I think 2nd violin is going to be more manageable for me. Thanks Mr Grach!

  • lol so u going for the carnegie hall or not?
